Invasion of the Neptune Men and The Creeping Terror, unwatchable? Sure, they’re terrible, but with the riffing they’re some of my faves. I will agree, though, that Monster a Go-Go and The Starfighters are unwatchable, no matter how hard MST3K tries to make them funny.

Overall I appreciate that list of “10 most unwatchable”. However, I love Monster A-Go Go and it is one of the most watched episodes at my house. The movie is so silly and poorly made I don’t find it hard to watch and the riffing is of course fabulous. The short that precedes it is a favorite here too. Still, I don’t fault anyone for putting it on a list of unwatchable films, it is truly terrible film making.
I do think that any one of a few different episodes on that list could easily have been replaced by Hobgoblins, I find that film to be unwatchable with its offensively mean and stupid characters, campy acting, and terrible attempts at humor.

I’d swap out “Monster A-Go-Go” and “Invasion of the Neptune Men” for “Castle of Fu Manchu” and “Hamlet”, which are just soul-crushingly boring. Great list, though.

Come on. The Starfighters #10? It’s clearly #2, and then there’s the
poopie suits. Others in 9-2 at least have interesting/bizarre bits,
The Creeping Terror’s creeping and townspeoples queing up to be
eaten, Cherokee Jack, Tor Johnson as a nuclear physicist, etc.

Well, he shows amazing restraint at putting Manos at No. 3, but Incredibly Strange Creatures at No. 5? That’s just wrong.
We will not argue about Yucca Flats at No. 1. Proof, of course, that there are things worse than Plan 9 — and Coleman Francis made all of them.

It would be interesting to know some of the film’s names that might be getting a song on Mary Jo’s kickstarter CD. Two or three titles as a teaser would suffice. I want to be surprised by the rest when it gets released. ;)

Why is “Being From Another Planet” on the dishonorable mention list? The movie’s DEFINITELY not in the same category as, say, “Castle of Fu-Manchu” (and why is THAT one NOT in the top 10?).
The author boldly states that Coleman Francis was the worst director of all time. Oh gee, uh, I could offer up half a dozen surefire contenders for that crown. To go big and obvious, how about James Nguyen (Birdemic, Birdemic 2: The Resurrection)? Now let’s go obscure: how about Chester Novell Turner (Black Devil Doll from Hell)? How about Amir Shervan (Samurai Copy)?
I get it, I get it: it’s a list for MSTies, by a MSTie. Right. It’s just that you don’t get to make bold claims like WORST unless you’ve got some real bad-movie chops.

I agree, Starfighters was sheer boredom. Can’t bring myself to watch that episode again.

I happen to agree that Coleman Francis is THE worst director of all time. The man was a hack. But that is only my opinion.

What a great list, this guy really knows his MST and bad movies :)

Castle of Fu Manchu has always been unbearable. It goes on forever and nothing happens and that’s just the never ending credits. The best part about it is the end when Dr. Forrestor and Frank try to riff on. “I’m walking down the street.”
It’s nice that Christopher Lee got these great jobs in the new century and nobody remembers this film but us MSTie fans. Attack of the Clones is pretty good by comparison and then you’ve got LOTR. If you want to see what happened to him in Return of the King (which he was cut out of), get the extended version. It’s one scene, it’s alright.

Great list, but I personally love Starfighters and Creeping Terror, although they are both awful movies that I could never watch by themselves.
Starfighters has lively humor despite the plodding pace of the movie. The sexual jokes about refueling, the jokes about lumpy faces and the jokes about the sheer nothing of it all never cease to make me laugh. “I think there’s more nothing in this movie than in any movie we’ve seen.” Starfighters also has one of my favorite jokes, where Crow says very bluntly to someone’s face on camera, “Not an actor.”
The Creeping Terror also has lively humor despite the plodding movie. The silence of the audio gives plenty of room to make fun of the hilarious monster design, which never gets old for me.
On another note, the Coleman Francis movies are awful but I still had fun with the riffing on Skydivers, although his other two movies are almost too dreary and terrible for comedy. They guys manage it, though. “This movie stops at nothing. And stays there.” Still, I would have put Monster a Go-Go at #1, because it rates among the worst things ever made. Here are some movies I think he should have added:
Radar Secret Service (deadly dull)
Terror from the Year 5000 (see above)
The Giant Spider Invasion (dreary, ugly, reprehensible characters)
I also want to add, why do people keep mentioning Hobgoblins? That movie is sheer entertainment. There couldn’t be a better movie for MST3K.

On their own, I guess most of those movies are unwatchable, except for ISCWSLABMUZ. That one is just weird to be unwatchable. Even with the riffing, however, Invasion of the Neptune Men is pretty rough.

Manos should be counted as 1 through 10 all by itself. I have tried to watch it all and have never succeeded. That frickin’ music makes me want to shoot something.
But I’m grateful for Manos. It provided the callbacks that mean so much, whether it’s Mike dressed up like Torgo or the mechanical hands in MST3K TM.
The mechanical hands in MST3K TM make me laugh so hard I cough/choke every time I watch it.

Skydivers is a reasonably competent movie. It’s also quite original – how many movies have there been about a skydiving business?

I honestly would not watch any of those films without riffings, but some of those films are made tolerable with riffings, while some aren’t. THE SKYDIVERS and THE CREEPING TERROR are my favorite episodes on the list. MST3K at least made them work, no matter how bad the films themselves are. Though it’s only a “dishonorable mention” MST3K couldn’t save THE CASTLE OF FU-MANCU.
