We’re Back (We Think)…So, How Were the Shows?

The site has been down all weekend, but we’re back (maybe). (You can still contribute to the Weekend Discussion Thread, by the way.)

While we were gone, Cinematic Titanic did three shows in New England.

Nick A. Zaino III at The Boston Globe had a story on Saturday — and if you can figure out a way to get past their paywall, it’s here.

This is an open thread for reports from this weekend’s shows.

This is what happens when Dropo takes a nap in the radar box, I guess.

Sunday night’s show at The Wilbur Theater in Boston was my first Cinematic Titanic live show experience, and it was phenomenal. Dave “Gruber” Allen warmed up the audience with shadow puppets, ASL interpretive dance, and his own take on riffing – lampooning Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House”; Mary Jo regaled us with her hilarious impression of the hysterical woman from The Birds who gets slapped by Tippi Hedren; Trace screened his entertaining short “Do The Frank” which featured the CT crew and a cameo by Bill Corbett; Frank did some stand-up comedy for the audience about going to comic-con and the pretentiousness of “artisan ice cream”; and Joel closed out the pre-show festivities by taking questions from the audience.

The feature was “Doll Squad” and the riffs had us in tears from laughing so hard. Gruber filled in for J. Elvis, who could not attend (Get well soon Josh!), and he was a natural on the riffing stage.

After the show the cast greeted fans, took pictures, and signed autographs. It was a magical evening and a bittersweet one at that, knowing that it was Cinematic Titanic’s last live performance in New England.

My personal favorite riff: (as a squad of fighter jets flies by) Frank: “Skyrockets in flight, all systems go for afternoon delight.”

Thank you Frank, Mary Jo, Trace, Gruber, and Joel for putting on a fantastic show!

SAMPO: I would like to know if there is some way I can get in touch with you without putting my E-Mail on here for all to see.
I know a few weeks ago you had someone who needed help selling tickets to one of the shows this past weekend.
How can I contact you without making a big deal about it?
I know you have my wife’s and my e- mail address.
Can you contact us and we can take it from there?
This has nothing to do with money or any type of scam, I would like to explain if you could contact us.
This would mean the world to me.

I was at the 11/2/13 show at the Calvin theater in Northhampton for The Astral Factor. You can cut and paste Mike’s above comments here as it is exactly identicle. It was great to finally thank the riffers for all the laughs and fun they have given me over the years. I gave Mary Jo a small little gift and she was super excited about. She made me feel special when in fact it was “they” were really the special ones. It was a good day for me indeed.

    Cool move BIG61AL:
I was at the Northampton and the Boston show.
I wanted to get J.ELVIS to sign some of my 1st. season DVDS
but it just wasn’t meant to be. I hope he is alright,he has become my favorite
MST3K, CT person. Because of how much he has done with and outside of the MST/CT
worlds. To see him at such a young age being a part of something that has become a huge part of my
life and being in CT he has proved himself as a great comedic talent.
I sure did miss seeing him on these two dates, I hope he’s getting better, and look forward to see
whats next for him as well as everyone else from this great cast.

The Calvin Theater in Northampton show was great, my wife got tickets back in Feb.
We had the first row on the left side and the only draw back was I couldn’t see Trace at all,
but still had a great time sitting that close to the coolest people in my life.
Gruber was great, he is such a talented guy and a good fit with the CT cast.
Mary Jo was cute and funny in all the parts she had. Being the only female in this pack
of wolves she always holds her own with style and grace.
Traces “Do The Frank” rocked. I hope he does more of these short films in the (not to distant)
future.Frank did a great stand up and he is great to watch and listen to.He has a way of being nostalgic,
and topical at the same time. And I love when he projects his voice to make a point.
And on the down side Joel was put on the spot, when he did his QUESTION/ANSWER part.
Don’t get me wrong, he did great when people from the audience acted like adults who respected all he’s done for us
over the years. But he said at the start “Please don’t ask why this is our last tour.” And the first moron to speak asked
“Why is this your last tour?” Like he was some comedic genius or something.I wanted to say “SHUT UP DICKWEED!”
People are such butt heads and need to grow up. I thought it was so disrespectful and some other jerks seemed to be out
to give Joel a hard time as well.Like he owes us more than he’s given over the years.
Anyway the movie was great, they were all spot on and I’m glad I/we had a chance to see these great folks on this the final tour.

Boston show was great and the three big draw backs had nothing to with the CT cast/show.
1.Was it cold and windy that night or what? We took the subway in from the suburbs
and got off about 1/2 a mile from the theater. Had a good meal at the Rock Bottom and
the short walk across the street had me frozen solid.
2.We had balcony seats and they were short on leg room, and the stairs were like a step
and a half high. Do you know what I mean by that? You know like the height is not natural
when walking up and down them. Add to that I sat from the start right into the movie and
got up to get a drink and my legs were stiff ( no I wasn’t stiff my legs were.) and every
step was painful I felt like I was going to fall with each huge step.
3.This was the second CT show we’ve been to there and the staff sucked big time. The bar in the balcony
closed and the guy said to go to the one the next floor down, it was closed as well so it was down to the first floor
and we only wanted to get water, $3.00 each and they were warm. Meanwhile we’re missing the show and had to climb all
the way back up. But the big thing that really got me mad about the theater and this bothered me the last time we saw
them there was how they handled the meet and greet after. There was this real jerk that kept saying the line starts inside
so people were trying to get in line and people were trying to leave and this big load kept saying “THE LINE STARTS INSIDE”
Now my point is this. Did anyone notice the huge unused room downstairs? Wouldn’t it have made sense to have them downstairs
instead of jammed at a small table near the front door.People that wanted to leave could do so and everyone else could’ve been
sent down stairs and lined up for the meet and greet.
Sorry this was so long, but don’t get me wrong I loved this the last show with a great group of funny talented people.
I can’t wait to see what each of them will do next. Thank you one and all for giving us more of your time and talent
I will always remember all the live shows and meeting you after as a special time in my life .

Both shows in Northampton & Boston were great. Gonna miss this. Had more thoughts but the site went down so now I’m distracted by other trivial things like work and family. :-|
