Just got back and it was a great last show! Sadly, J Elvis was sick and couldn’t attend. Fortunately, Joel’s friend Dave ‘Gruber’ Allen was able to stand in for him and did an excellent job riffing.

Incredible! A life-changing experience! I’m not sure if the short film which Trace wrote and directed has been mentioned in detail here before, so I don’t want to spoil anything, but it was smashing!

Cinematic Titanic roared into the Family Arena in St. Louis(St. Charles, MO)for the fourth and final time and went out with a bang.
This time, the pre-show entertainment was expanded, in fact it was half the show!
The high point of the pre-show was, as mentioned earlier, was a Halloween-themed musical short written and directed by Trace Beaulieu. I won’t reveal any details, but there are several MST3K references and look for a cast member from a rival riffing group in the film!
Joel finished with a slide presentation explaining how certain MST3K names and other icons came about. As previously mentioned, J. Elvis (Josh) Weinstein was ill, but Dave “Gruber” Allen did an excellent job of filling in.
Following a fifteen minute intermission, CT presented “The Astral Factor”, a 1976 film starring Robert Foxworth (“Falcon Crest”) as a harried police detective, with an annoying pen-clicking partner. The plot revolves around a murderer who uses astral projection to not only escape from the joint, but commit a series of new murders.
Stefanie Powers in her pre-“Hart to Hart” days, appears as Foxworth’s wife and never wears pants (no really).
Elke Sommer also is featured wearing a bikini and not much else.
It was a wonderful night of entertainment and I would encourage any one who has not seen CT live to make the investment in time and money to see them on their Farewell Tour!

Last night’s show was so amazing! It was such a wonderful night! Gruber did a wonderful job filling in for Josh. All of the pre-movie stuff was great, as always. But, as others have said, Trace’s little feature was, by far, the biggest and best surprise of the entire night. I’ve attended every show they’ve done in St. Louis and all of them have been wonderful. Since this was the last one, I cannot express enough of my gratitude to the entire CT crew for doing these shows. These memories will stay with me the rest of my life!

For those of you who attended… was there any filming equipment or any talk of final titan DVD(s), or when Trace’s films will be available?

No. 5, I asked Trace during the autograph session and he said that at least this short film would be made available on-line and as a DVD. Presumably the others will, too; I just didn’t know to ask.

I promised myself I wouldn’t cry; promise broken.
It was honestly the best CT show I’ve ever attended. Joel did part of his “Riffing on Myself” one man show, Trace did a world premiere of his new Halloween themed video, and Gruber went over and above with pre-show antics and sitting in for Josh (who was ill).
I was finally able to get my KTMA era bots built and signed!

I am happy, almost giddy, to say that I was able to see this brave, barnstorming group the last two times it came to the rockin’ confines of the Family Arena.
A few of the high points for me – Gruber’s hand jive, Trace’s film, Joel’s MST3k history (heartwarming, informative, and funny!), Mary Jo’s posh frock and hilariously bad reading of…well, it was so side-splitting I can’t remember what she was introducing. Frank unleashed his savage (but caring) wit in a jovial and laid back monologue, raining havoc on everything from New York pizza to blockbuster films (glad I paid for admission to hear him, I still feel a little guilty reading his blog for free – that kind of funny usually has a price tag).
And that was only the introductory part of the show! As has been noted, Gruber filled in for Joel Weinstein for the riffing of Astral Factor and did a fine job. Bigger names than I’m used to in the films CT riffs, Robert Foxworth, Stephanie Powers, and yes, even Mark Slade. But this was so riff worthy. Acting (way over), dialogue (cringe worthy), and a head scratch inducing story In Astral Factor a murderer with psychic powers beams out of jail. How’d a guy with powers like that ever get put in jail?
It does not pay to look into the logic of these films unless you want a big headache.
The riffing for Astral Factor was CT standard – wonderfully paced with extraordinary timing. My favorite riff in the entire show had to do with an observation Robert Foxworth made in the film (sorry, I can’t remember what the line was). After a split second or two (perfect timing) Joel chimed in, “It stinks.” The audience roared. Then, with timing just as perfect, Frank, sounding (and only sounding) mystified said, “What is so much funnier about that joke than any other joke?” And the crowd continued to roar as Joel responded, “Well, the audience just has a special connection with me.”
You have to have history to make a moment like that work.
Thanks for everything, Joel, Trace, Frank, Mary Jo, Josh, Gruber – I never expected to be able to see you do this live. I’m still amazed that you managed to tour Cinematic Titanic as long as you did. The long distance effort required to create the riffing and the logistics to bring the show off seem mind-boggling. I sincerely doubt that we’ll see anything like this live show in the future (though I sincerely hope we do).
You folks are the best – literally.

If SyFy had a brain in its head, it would offer tempting lucrative contracts to produce several seasons of CT.
Touring is great, but the group’s non-live DVDs really worked, too, and it would be a lot easier logistically to make five seasons worth of CT than to do even a few live shows.
I underestimated the strength of CT.
After viewing several episodes, I am very impressed by the writing and comedic delivery.
So hopefully, this is not a permanent “goodbye” from CT, but just goodbye to the live touring.
CT is a goose that lays golden eggs and there are many more eggs yet to birth.
What I foresee is that Joel will continue with “Riffing Myself” until he feels satisfied, then he will call the CT crew in to work on 3 or 4 films at a time.
The time tube needs more golden eggs.

* I’m sorry, I meant to say “nanotated golden eggs.”
