Logo in TV AdI’ve been hearing about this ad on Twitter for a couple of weeks, but today Gorn Captain graciously pointed me to a youtube video.

When I first saw that ad, I noticed that and commented. “Hey! Its MST3K The Movie!”

MST3K:TM – The perfect tool for turning off someone who’s never seen MST3K before :(

very odd – but it least it’s getting a mention, that has got to mean something…

And in this ad for the same TV, MST3K is listed as the #1 choice, as well it should be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2KSDTielQg

I’m fairly sure that the only people turned off by MST3k The Movie (besides those who’ll just never “get it”) are whiny fanboys who still haven’t stopped moaning after more than fifteen years. The rest of us MSTies respect what the Brains were trying to accomplish, admire the intestinal fortitude required to bring to film to completion, and accept that the suits at Gramercy had no idea what they were doing, as it always has been and forever shall be in Hollywoodland.
By the way, a glance at the popular movie review aggregators puts MST3k TM around 7 out of 10. Not too shabby, all things considered. Heck, if Universal

…if Universal had actually advertised it and released in more than a dozen cinemas, the movie might have even turned a tidy profit, what with its relatively small budget.

@6 – Fully agreed. As I’ve noted previously, I know more than a handful of people who got into MST3K because their local video store stocked the movie & they checked it out, which lead to them wanting more. True, those of us who have seen every episode & crave piles of esoteric references & call-backs were disappointed (some obviously more than others) by the forced attempt to appeal to a larger audience, but it IS a pretty good gateway for the 99.99% of viewers who are interested in the concept but have yet to understand why a mention of “Torgo”, “Hai-Keeba!” or “Flag on the moon” would warrant a laugh.

Surely there’s a MSTie or two at Samsung?
Too bad it’s crappy logo used for the 2008 Universal release and not the beautiful original poster art from the Shout! release.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers. MST3K. There’s a “dog faced boy” joke in there somewhere.

#4 The MST:TM logo is bigger in that one, and underneath it says “1966 – 1969” (which is the same for the Star Trek, next to it, which would be more appropriate, but I don’t think that’s the original ST logo).

Don’t get me wrong, Goshzilla; I’ve heard all the stories from The Brains about how hard it was to make, and how even they admit that TM is a watered down experience – thanks to studio buffoonery. That was all I was speaking to.
I like MST3K:TM – because I liked MST3K first.

#9: That’s the logo that Universal is using for the digital download of TM, so that would be the actual logo that would show up on smart TVs that the film could be bought or rented on.
