The MST3K 20th anniversary DVD set was reviewed on the “DVDuesday” segment on Attack Of The Show on the G4 cable network tonight at 7 PM EST. To borrow a phrase, “worst review ever!”
The reviewer, Chris Gore, had no idea what he was talking about at all, stating that the shows in the set were unaired and saying you could watch them on TV so you should only rent the set!?! No mention of the fact that the extras are only available for a limited time either.
They should have let Kevin Pereira review the set, he clearly has more idea what’s going on when it comes to MST3K from hearing him talk about it.

A horrible review from G4? Never! Seriously sometimes I hate G4 so much I swear a vein in my forehead must be visibly pulsing.
Anyways, the set is so freakin’ awesome and well done. Let us hope it’s a sign of things to come from Shout! The History of MST3K was amazing and I just wanted more. And the filming of the SDCC panel was top notch.
And on a personal note, I always thought that BJN was a very pretty woman who short hair worked for, but the long hair now… wow! Good on ya for that one to Michael J Nelson!

Oh, forgot to mention my only complaint is that the tin for the set is HUGE compared to the interior box for the DVD’s. But that is my only complaint other than wanting more interviews. MORE I SAY!

Did anyone else have issues with the sound during Werewolf? Could be on my end only, but it sounded like the movie was a bit louder than the riffing from MatB. Anyone?

Yeah the tin was huge compared to the DVD boxes, I guess you can use it as a “junk drawer organizer”…Why hasn’t anyone interviewed Mike, it seems that all the interviews are w/Joel.

That might just have a little bit to do with the fact that Joel created the show.

Yeah, it is somewhat odd that Joel is only in 1/4 of the episodes and Trace is only in half of them, but those two are the only ones outside Jim that are promoting the box set.
Also interesting, is Jim’s comment about how he thinks they’ll be able to release another 50 of the episodes on DVD. That’s probably more than I would expect, so hopefully it’s true.

#6: Bob. Isn’t that sort of like not interviewing Abe Lincoln because he’s not one of the Founding Fathers ? C’mon, his over-all contribution to the show is huge.
That being said, I think Joel is slightly more interesting to listen to than Mike ( I am slightly Mike-leaning in my host preference ). Dare I say that Mike is funnier, but Joel is smarter ?

The precursors of MST3K.
I am surprised that more people don’t include The Rocky Horror Picture Show ( including its ritualized fan interaction ) as a precursor to MST. In point of fact, many of the kinds of jokes used in MST are represented in the RHPS canon.
Of course, a number of people have properly referenced the Bug Bunny ( et al ) bits where we happen to be in a theater and we see the silhouettes of people involved in some bit of business or another.
Now, take RHPS fan interactions, Bug Bunny silhouettes gags, swapping RHPS out for other films, and the whole hosted movie concept. Toss into a bowl, mix thoroughly, and get it on TV.
That’s MST3K.
Joel was the chef that put it all together into something wonderful. But the ingredients were all there to begin with.

Another 50 episodes? Come on, we need to at least TRY to get all of the episodes on DVD. Anyone want to be friends with Sandy Frank?
And if Joel and Trace are going to be pimping these sets more than Mike is, then i want more Joel episodes, dagnabbit!

I wish there had been more episode clips in the three part history. Other than that, loved the extras.
