Weekend Discussion Thread: Bits in the Theater

You know those moments in the theater when they stop riffing and start doing little comedy “bits?” Alert reader Michael K. does:

Many of my favorite moments in the show is when they do a little something out of the ordinary in the theater like when Crow gets something in his eye during the shower scene in Soultaker or when Mike’s brother Edward gets up for a cigarette in Time Chasers.

I’d have to pick Crow’s departure to and return from his “lifelong quest thingy” in “Magic Voyage of Sinbad.”

What’s your favorite?

Mike tossing Servo mid “Ferryman” in High School Big Shot and the bots blaming Mike for the 80’s in Space Mutiny.

I like all of the times Tom Servo steals kisses from the movie actresses.

In the Robot vs. Aztec Mummy, where Joel places his hand over the singers mouth, when the audio on the film drops out.

Also, I believe it was in City Limits, where Joel opens the umbrella to cover up the woman swimming in the water tower. Which was reprised in the CT movie Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks, only this time with a blimp.

When Crow won’t leave during “X Marks the Spot”- while listening intently to scolding Judge.

@52. Projected Man has Tom wanting to do a bit more than steal a kiss from that honey dressed in the table cloth undies! :D

How about Crow getting “credit sick” during the opening credits of Beginning Of The End?

Y’know, I totally forgot about them being run over by a train in The Girl in Lover’s Lane.

  9. @58 Trilaan: Yeah. I forgot about that too. And I love that bit! (that episode too!)

    Three words: “Roji Panty Complex”

From “Invasion of the Neptune Men.” Servo passing out from the awful movie is great. Follow it up with a break segment where Mike is covering him in panties… comedy gold!

Horrors of Spider Island has a couple of good ones.

Servo passing out a couple of times. “Flesh!”

Crow saying, “It’s been ten years. I think I’m owed a break.” And he walks out.

    “Can he do that?”

Still one of my favorite scenes when Joel helps “Dr Bellows” with his lines in Project: Moonbase.

    Which led to this:
Dr Bellows: Now that we have a spaceship…
    Everyone: …or Frisbee…
Dr Bellows: it is at last possible to send a ship…
    Everyone: …or Batteries…
Dr Bellows: …all the way around the moon…
    Everyone: …or Playground Ball…
    Polly Prattles starts prattling…
    Everyone: …or Large Barge…

    Classic.

I also have a soft spot for Gypsy’s riffing attempt, as it was my first episode. And Timmy was so cool I gave in to my inner fan-wanker (that came out wrong) and did a sequel in one of my MiSTings.

@18 Going just by discussions (which also count as bits IMO), then my favorites are the Femmy-Movie-Off and Made For USA Movie title-off.

@40 I knew it was Tusk because there was a great call-back in a MiSTing of one of the worst Daria fanfics ever, which I read before I saw the episode, but I could see the confusion.

@51 Oh yes, the 80’s argument was a favorite of my best friend. “Yes it is, you hair-feathering freak!”

A few theater bits that I enjoyed:

Robot Holocaust – The film breaking during the Commander Cody short.

Hobgoblins – The “interview” with the film’s director

Final Justice – Tom and Crow, to the song that’s playing during the closing credits, going all out with the Joe Don Baker/food jokes.

I agree #61, anytime Servo gets all fainty (Horrors of Spider Island), it’s fun.
I also enjoy when he falls for one of the actresses (Creepy Girl, Shiela from Projected Man, etc). He’s just so darn cute.

There are countless great ones, but Timmy from Fire Maidens takes the cake. Love love love that episode.

Sorry I don’t know the characters’ names. But my definite fave is when one turns to the other and says “I think they forgot to make something happen in this movie.”

Seventh season, at the end of Escape 2000, Tom and Crow singing “Leave the Bronx”, morphing into Journey’s “Separate Ways”.

Love Mike getting banged in the head by Crow’s guitar. :)

#45 man, I hear ya. It shows how rare real magic is.

Hey I dunno if this is the appropriate place to discuss weekend discussion thread topics…

    MST3K Movie Mashups!

I was looking at my Gizmonic Institutes Radio T-Shirt, which has a big G made up of all the movie titles.
The titles are close together and some of them are hard to separate unless you actually know them.
In one spot, there was “Fugitive Alien Hercules” and in another “The Mole People Mutiny”.

Can you imagine someone trying to kill big dumb Herc with a forklift?
Or John Agar jumping off a Zamboni and screaming?
