Awesome news! …but no DVD/BD release? C’mon now! I’ve purchased and enjoyed many RT VOD releases but I have to say I prefer the physical copy over the download. And this is BIRDEMIC!!! I think I’m going to wait it out, it has to eventually come on out on at least DVD right? Anyways, great live and either way it’ll be sweet having it for home viewing.

Glad to finally get to see “Birdemic!” Next it would be great to get a VOD of “The Room” which I’ve heard so much about!

@1 I agree a physical DVD is best!!! I saw “Birdemic” in the theatre and it may be worse than “Manos: Hands of Fate!”

Cosign on the DVD vs VOD-only. I’d buy a physical disc in a heartbeat.

I too used to be solely in favor of physical DVDs and refused to download the VODs. However, I finally gave in as I was missing out on so many schlocky movies. The other advantages: I bought DVD cases on line that hold 8 DVDs so I make a cover for each set featuring the thumbnails of each movie that I put in the set, and then have a list on the back with some Rifftrax logos and whatnot I found online, and this helps save a lot of space on my shelf versus having 8 individual DVDs taking up a lot of space. Another bonus: each time I download the VODs, I don’t have to pay shipping! Granted, I have had some technical problems that have never been resolved despite trying to get help from customer service in which the ISO files don’t work on my player, but the MPEG2 files do (but then depending on your player they might not play the MPEG2, HOWEVER, apparently the problem I’m having with the ISO files is rare as most other people aren’t experiencing it so it’s likely it won’t be a problem). Plus I have a feeling now at this point they have so many VODs that if they were going to put more on DVD, they would have done so by now.

Those were just my reasonings for finally taking the plunge to the VOD’s over physical DVDs. I’m not saying anyone who wants to stick with DVDs is wrong and I totally understand where you’re coming from.

Awesome news! I will purchace the VOD and will then get the physical DVD if it comes out. I also have all 3 riffed versions of Plan 9. I know I have a problem. Not sure if there are support groups for people like me. :rotfl:

This is awesome….VOD’s are by far my preferred method for Rifftrax.

If you don’t buy the VODs, you are missing out on a ton of great riffs. Downloading and burning is a snap and you can find a lot of fan made DVD covers to go along with them. Also, the VODs are probably more profitable than the physical DVDs as there is no manufacturing/printing/packaging involved…

It would be interesting to know the exact history of this, because I bought this VOD at least a year or two ago and then it was unavailable for a while.

My assumption has always been there was a rights problem when the movie was released on blu-ray (unbelievably enough that it was) but apparently it’s been cleaned up. Or something. In any case, this is well worth buying (although my wife and I skipped the live show because… well, because we had seen enough of it. There’s only so much Birdemic you can take :>).

Hmm. A rights issue might explain the higher than usual for a VOD price of $12.99. I hope it’s a one time thing though. $9.99 seems reasonable enough, but if $12.99 is the new $9.99, that’s going to add up.

Darkknight has a point. I would imagine the rights for birdemic would be a little more costly. Expecially since it was made this past decade and is pretty famous for being so bad. Or did Rifftrax make it famous? I lose track sometimes. :-?

@9: What VOD are you talking about? There was never a VOD for Birdemic. When the riff was released it was a standard RiffTrax MP3.

#13 – That’s the VOD of the live performance that just got released. They’re talking about a VOD (the status of which I have no knowledge of) that would have been released years ago (and, presumably, withdrawn) when Birdemic was first given a DVD and, yes, glorious Blu-Ray disc (I got mine at Best Buy!).

Best riffed movie ever. I was in tears. Had to pause it a dozen times. Please, let there be a sequel to Birdemic. One bad turn deserves another.

I saw Birdemic when it was aired Live. It was a good time. I’ll get the VOD but will probably wait a week or two since I just bought a MST3K boxed set. Money is tight, but there is so much to get. I’d rather have it this way than the dark days of no Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic and a Rino Boxed set once a year. :)

Just to clear up any confusion:

An MP3 RiffTrax for the regular DVD version of “Birdemic” was released on February 22, 2011. It was not a VOD title and can still be purchased here. This new VOD release is for the RiffTrax Live! version of “Birdemic” that was performed on October 26, 2012.

whenever there is a vod and no dvd, i always wonder if it is an issue of cost-effectiveness. i, for one would gladly pay more (even $24.99) for something like this on a physical disc. they could even make it a ‘limited edition’ and only make 1,000 if that would make it recoup the costs and be more ‘collectible’. msties are not ‘impulse’ buyers looking for bargains but rather fans who would go out of their way to look for this, and i think, be willing to pay more.

You would pay $25 for every riffed movie they do? Dang, are you hiring or adopting? That would price me right out of buying every movie they do.

yeah, $24.99 would be way out of line. adding a couple of bucks would easily cover their extra costs. say 14.95 + maybe $2.50 s&h for a full-length feature. (less via amazon of course …). I wouldn’t buy every single DVD, but I’d buy several, instead of the zero VODs I buy. I don’t care if it’s E-Z to download/rip/burn, whatever. I’ve got other stuff to do.

i wouldn’t pay $25 for movies like ‘plan 9’ or ‘galaxy invader’ or any of that ilk. i’m just sayin’ that in a case like ‘birdemic’ (and possibly ‘the room’) i would be willing to pay more if that’s what it took to have it on disc. everything else, $9.99-$14.99 is just right.

the difference, of course, is that those two films are recent and made by living, breathing ‘filmmakers’ who are most likely very aware that the only real value of their movies is that people enjoy making fun of them and would realize that that is where any money they would make would come from and ask for more for the rights. oops, run-on sentence…..

Put me as being down in the camp for the DVD release. It’s hard to beat a physical hardcopy that plays on any standard DVD or BluRay player in the world. Sure, it may cost a little more (including applicable taxes and S&H), but with a disk, once you buy it, it’s yours no matter what.

To date I’ve bought every Riff Trax Live DVD put on the market, and love them all. And when this one comes out (not to mention Manos), it too shall join my large collection of Misty (and Misty related) DVDs.

IT’S 2013…JUST DOWNLOAD THE VOD! JUST BURN IT TO DISC! WHY DO YOU WANT TO PAY MORE FOR ONLY A PHYSICAL COPY WHEN YOU CAN GET ALL DIGITAL FORMATS FOR ONE LOW PRICE? WHY AM I YELLING? Oh sorry, it was the caps lock.
