Great interview! Love that it deviated from the standard fare.

Honestly, how can you not love Joel?

I officially love Joel more than I ever have. “I also think that it’s a great idea that if there was national healthcare, they would spend more time on prevention and demonstrate to people on how to be healthy.” — As a public health grad student, THANK YOU JOEL! Now, could you be a dear and come explain this importance to my parents? Much love brotha ~ <3

Wow! Glad to see Joel is an expert on public healthcare & drug laws. How ignorant, stick to something you know something about like riffing movies and keep your ridiculous opinions to yourself.

#3 because our current laws work out so well and seem to be a great use of our resources, right? Are you a police officer or work for the DEA? These are the only industries that benefit from the way things are currently.

I admit, I was a little surprised to see Joel answer political questions so bluntly. I’m so used to diplomatic answers from him, I just got used to the idea he prefers not to ruffle feathers. Not that I understand why advocating a single-payer health care plan is so contentious.

I went to the VIP show in Chicago, and Joel was asked point blank whether he harbors any ill feelings for Mike Nelson or the success of Rifftrax. I believe him when he says he doesn’t resent Mike for taking over as host — he was the natural choice — but regarding Rifftrax, his answer was a little wishy-washy.

@#3 – Glad to see you’re an expert on the 1st Amendment. How ignorant; Joel has a right to his opinion, and the interviewer asked. He has every right to answer or not as he sees fit.

I’m always telling Joel to stop being so political all the time but he just won’t listen to me.

I agree with Joel about health care and pot. Good interview to see so many non-standard questions although it will doubtless bother a few like #3.

Great interview and a lot better than the standard(and predictable)questions from past interviews where he’s always asked “Do you miss MST3K when you left?” or “I see you don’t have the puppets with you when you’re doing Cinematic Titanic. How does that feel?” and so on.Would have liked to hear what Joel thinks of other riffers such as Josh Way or Incognito Cinema Warriors XP,but that could be asked in the next interview hopefully…

A ridiculous opinion is one you don’t share.
We all have opinions. Even Joel.
    Rave on Joel!
*turning my crank slightly toward Joel, away from Frank*
That sounded better in my head. Hmmmmmmm

#3: I don’t agree with him about health care, but I’m not gonna tell anyone they aren’t allowed to express an opinion or idea. You should be more tolerant towards letting other people speak their minds.

#5: I don’t remember him saying anything wishy-washy about rifftrax. But ya know, I was just so excited to be there and a little drunk, so my memory about that night is a little wishy-washy.

Joel has always been pretty guarded about his views and personal life, so this was interesting. Great to see an interview touch on the usual topics that people who don’t watch the show would not know about so that real fans get more insight into the real person.

I don’t agree with Joel on either hot button issue, as a fairly conservative person and an assistant district attorney, but I don’t know him and how he came to form his opinions, and it’s not for me to say if he’s right or wrong. I wish tolerance of other people’s political views was more prevalent now, but as I have been saying that for at least a decade, I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.

In any case, I still love Joel’s work and I think he’d be a fantastic person to have as a dinner guest or a friend.

I apologize for starting all the “hating”. I should have taken a minute to chill after reading Joel’s interview rather than slapping my reaction directly up here. I truly can’t stand it when entertainers proffer their political opinions (from either side of the fence) but should not have been so venomous in making my point. Sorry for getting everybody’s hackles up. PEACE and carry on . . .

While it’s nice to see that the interviewer didn’t ask the same old questions we’ve seen Joel answer a hundred times before, I think this is actually a pretty bad interview. I mean, the questions are all over the place. It reads like it’s out of a high school newspaper. I wonder if someone contacted Fresh Air to suggest that Terry Gross interview Joel, would they consider it? That would be a fantastic interview.

I just think it’s pretty fantastic that he forgot what 911 was. I love you so much, Joel. Never change, and always have emergency services on speed dial.
