Thanks Sampo for this. As a New Jersey resident still without power and not expected to get it back until friday the 9th, I am really frustrated! But more so because of this gas problem I may not be able to get to the jersey shore tomorrow for a friend’s funeral who died during the storm. From what my other friends there tell me it’s even worse than you can imagine. Please everybody give what you can. Thank you.

I’m in NJ as well, although it sounds like I’m in a better place than you are.

Where in NJ are you located? If I can be of any assistance, just let me know – feel free to reply to this posting. I’d be willing to give you a ride to your friend’s funeral if you need one.

You are correct: things here and in NY are MUCH worse than is being reported.

I live in Central NJ. My neighborhood lost power about 8:30PM last Monday and we got it back last night around 9PM. For a few days, I had to abandon ship and stay with my Mom in Wayne County, PA. Things are slowly recovering around here, though there are still a lot of trees down and gas lines are still there, though shorter and faster.

I’ve never seen anything like this in my life, and I remember the other “hundred-year storms” we’ve had over the last decade.

Oh, and the PSAs for the Red Cross were included on the old “MST Scrapbook” VHS. I’m not sure if they’ve been on a commercial DVD.

Central Jersey here too, but I was ridiculously lucky. Just a lot of wind resulting in a few days without cable / internet.

I agree. My neighbor said that the damage and losing power was bad enough, but if we’d gotten as much rain as we were afraid we’d get, we’d have been royally shafted.

My brother said we didn’t so much dodge a bullet, as dodge a cannon shell. The people north and south of us, though…just awful.

These were on a VHS I bought of some episode years ago. A real hoot! Some obviously needed the laughs right now.

I’m originally from Central Jersey and spent many of a Summer down at Seaside Heights (before MTV moved in) and seeing the images from the damage really, really hurts.

    Thanks for posting this, Sampo.

Hopefully everything gets back to normal ASAP.

I’m from Southwestern New Jersey and we didn’t get hit nearly as bad as other places, my aunt is still without power in North Jersey and our shore house got flooded on the bottom floor. My thoughts an prayers are with anybody coping with the aftermath of this nasty storm. Thanks for posting this, Sampo.

Thanks for the offer. Thankfully right after posting my message I found a gas station with a relatively short line(1 hour wait). I live in North Jersey and just returned home from the shore. Sad doesn’t begin to describe it. My friend lived in Union City on Sandy Hook Bay and the entire town is basically gone. The bulk of the people, including my friend’s wife and son, live in the local school because it suffered the least damage. Still they have no heat, water or electricity. Thank god FEMA and the Red Cross are on the scene to help. Small comfort for me was finded power restored when I got home, but I am only staying long enough to look in on relatives and to pack some clothes before I head back down to try to help in whatever way I can. Thanks again.
