Combo ReviewBob Grim of the Tuscon Weekly likes Joel, and doesn’t like Mike, and that preference colors his combination review of the 20th Anniversary Special Edition and the latest Cinematic Titanic release.

It’s funny how this guy says ‘First Spaceship to Venus’ was the best one, but the other review stated that it was the weakest. Really is a subjective, personal thing when you get down to it.
Oh well, he gave the set a very nice score, so who’s complaining?

Yes, he did give it a very good grade, which is important. But none-the-less he seems to have what appear to be, at least to my mind ( such as it is ), some very odd opinions.

ummmm and his review of CT is a little bit… well it’s just too gushy for comfort.

His last name is Grimm.
But the review was pleasant!
So he leans more toward the Joel side, nothing new about that.
That special sounds great. Where will I display that Crow?
If they made more figurines, I could make a mobile…like in “I Accuse My Parents”.

Wow. Dude, I like Joel too (I mean I REALLY like him), but Spaceship to Venus > Werewolf, Laserblast, AND Future War!? Takes all kinds, I guess.

I can’t believe he said this about the Mike episodes, “but they lack the gonzo nuttiness that Hodgson brought to the party.”
Did he even watch Laserblast and Mike’s full transformation into Captain Janeway?

To post #3:
Yeah, I think his love for Joel is destroying his objectivity as a reviewer. I think Legacy of Blood was okay, but not as good as The Wasp Woman.
And, about Mike’s “lack of chemistry” with the ‘bots, I don’t see it that way. Mike relationship to the ‘bots is either as “one of the guys” or the “big chunky human thing”. That’s why I think it’s okay for him to be the way he is with them. Joel was more of a best buddy and caring father to the robots, he did create them, so it’s natural that Joel would have a better relationship with the robots.

Joel VS Mike issues aside, I’ve got two problems here:
1) He seems to ignore the fact that Josh was the original Tom Servo.
2) It’s Tucson, not Tuscon.

#8 – Yeah, I was going to say he failed to mention that Josh’s presence gave it an old Servo vibe. He didn’t mention Josh or Mary Jo at all. He could have at least clarified the “five” silhouettes. :???:

What MikeK said. Mike as Capt. Janeway itself is all the “gonzo nuttiness” many humans are able to handle. And did he just puposefully ignore the full on, dare I say, “juggernaught whimsy” of the Where Oh Werewolf skit? I suppose if “Don’t you be givin’ Mikey no matches” had been on one of these eps that too would have been shrugged off? Just three examples of many. Seriously though, anybody who ranks Lazerblast, Werewolf and Future War as mediocre compared to First Spaceship/Venus is speaking from the bizarro world. Good episode but nowhere near the cream of either era. Glad he gave both good reviews and always good too see MST3K and CT get coverage. But I get the impression this is the kind of guy who’d gladly try to start an old school Joel vs. Mike forum war in his spare time.

Well, opinions are like you-know-what — everybody’s got one.
To my mind, First Spaceship on Venus is the 2nd best episode on the set, behind Laserblast.
I have a hard time getting through both Werewolf and Future War. Both movies are even duller than First Spaceship on Venus.
