Big Question is: Will you have to pay for autographs/photographs with Joel?

Good question, Don. I am going to NYCC. I just hope he won’t be so swamped I can’t get to see him.

I don’t mean to sound sarcastic, but doesn’t everyone charge for autographs at these things? That’s been my experience, anyhoo, but I’ve only been to a couple.

There is a “hall of autographs” type thing, and you usually have to buy a spot in line to get something signed by a big name celebrity (ie- Carrie Fisher, Christopher Lloyd, etc). Comic book creators that you meet at their own private booths hardly ever charge.

Joel’s booth seems to be the Shout! Factory booth in the main convention area (not the hall of auotgraphs), so it will be a toss up if he’ll charge or not. Now…what in my collection should I have him sign? My really beat-up copy of the Amazing Colossal Episode Guide?

Yeah, I agree. Since it’s right at the Shout Factory booth on the main floor, chances are it will be a free signing.
    Free exclusive poster too…I’m interested.

Official guests are required by contract to charge a specific rate for autographs (or more truthfully for photos that they then sign for for you), but since Joel is technically at a vendor’s booth I highly doubt he’d charge for anything. He’s not a dickweed.

Last I checked (which was years ago), celebrity autographs at cons usually go for about twenty to thirty dollars so I’d suggest having at least that amount on hand, just in case. Joel might also have items for sale (Cinemanic Titanic DVDs, etc.) and it’s possible you can buy one of those and get him to autograph it.

One thing that really bugged me when I went to cons was when there was no way to know how much the celebs charged outside of asking them to their faces. Especially if I couldn’t afford it. I always felt like I was telling them, “Well, Hell, I don’t like your work THAT much…”

Actually, I’m a little worried about CT since the fall is upon us and the only live show date is the one for the St. Charles Family Arena in November. Are the CT-ers falling off the horse? Enquiring minds want to know!

Darn, I’ll miss this one, too. I’m working that day and I won’t be done until 5.

@Stressfactor, they also have a date posted for the Royal Oak Theater in February. Pretty sparse calendar, but CT just seems to work at a slower pace; the members live farther apart, have other things going on, etc.

Though this is the third year in a row at that venue, and pretty much the same exact dates as before. You have to have a fairly high level of dedication to want to come to Detroit in February, or just be of hearty Minnesotan stock.
