Former Cast Members Could Be Among “Guest Readers” of Proposed iBook Version of Childrens’ Book

Okay, so it’s like this: our pal Ken Plume co-wrote a children’s book with a guy named John Robinson called “There’s a Zombie in My Treehouse.” It was illustrated by our pal Len Peralta.

So, now they want to do an iBook of the book, and they have started a Kickstarter thingy to raise the funds to do that. What does this have to do with MST3K? I hear you ask. I’m getting to it.

Joel, Kevin, Josh, Trace, Bill and Frank have all agreed to do their own readings of the book, if contributions reach a certain level.

Other possible readers, if the contributions come in, include Phil Plait (The Bad Astronomer), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Billy West! (Futurama), Paul Dini & Misty Lee, James Urbaniak (Venture Bros., American Splendor), $18000 – Molly Lewis, Doc Hammer & Jackson Publick! (Venture Bros.), Charlie McDonnell, Jonathan Coulton, John Hodgman and, if the final total is met, Neil Gaiman. The idea would be that you’d get this iBook and there would be lots of audio track choices, and you would be able to choose which reader you want to hear. Sounds neat. There’s also a sequel involved … it would take a scientist to explain it all.

Check out the kickstarter page for more details.

Wow, don’t want to come off as negative and possibly(ahem) jealous, but it must be nice to be so well-connected. Speaking as someone who’s attempted to publish in the past, all I can tactfully say is good luck! Show biz. It would be interesting to hear Joel and Bill’s take on the same story, tho.

Well, that’s all well and good but no way will they get MY vote unless Mary Jo and Mike are involved!

p.s. If anyone has any concerns/hangups about the iBook format (some folks tend to get all proprietarindignant – new word!), there are also .mp3 and .pdf options available. Pledge early and often!

Zee, Mike is now at the $9,750 funding level (which means if it gets funded, Mike’ll do it.)

(And while I’m typing, Ken sneaks in. )
