The new short is:
Download it and see a sample here.
And: we don’t normally mention RiffTrax products without Mike, Kevin or Bill in them, but we make an exception for our pals, the very funny Janet Varney and Cole Stratton. They have a new one out.
WE LOVE THAT CAR!
They say it’s narrated “in the style of” that “nnnnYES?” guy. Well, it IS the “nnnnYES?” guy himself, Frank Nelson, whose voice is unmistakable. If there’s any character actor from the 50s to the 70s who should be remembered until the Earth explodes, it’s him.
Finally another blockbuster!!! All of Janet and Cole’s riffs are great: Footloose, Poltergeist, Ghost, Dirty Dancing, and Jaws 3. Keep ’em coming!
BTW – I recently found out that Janet voiced Korra in “The Legend of Korra.” Congratulations, Janet!!!
How could I forget about “The Lost Boys,” another great one from Cole and Janet.
:-)
Amen about Frank Nelson. Growing up watching reruns of 50’s shows with the granmother, there were nights when he seemed to be on every show, from Burns And Allen, Life Of Reilly, and of course The Jack Benny Show. He was great on Sanford And Son, too.
Uhhh.. am I supposed to know who Janet Varney and Cole Stratton are? The names don’t ring a bell.
Janet Varney and Cole Stratton are a couple of wanna-be standups or something with typical Hollywood resumes. They are not “real” Rifftrax although they really hang onto Mike, Bill and Kevin’s coattails. I guess what i’m saying is that i rather Sampo wouldn’t promote their solo Rifftrax on the site.
I have no problem with Satellite News mentioning that a new Janet Varney and Cole Stratton Rifftrax has been released. I think it’d be nice if they’d mention when a new Matthew J. Elliott Rifftrax comes out too. The three of them have been contributing to Rifftrax since 2008 and Mr. Elliott has released just as many riffs for movies as they have.
#7: Right on, Willona! How they dare to make their own riffs! Purge the heretics!
Yeah… It’s all I can do to keep up with RT and CT. I’m afraid the third party riffs just ain’t happening for me.
I can understand the problem of “keeping up with” the Rifftrax featuring Mike, Kevin, and Bill. Cinematic Titanic though? They’ve only released about one DVD a year since 2010. Maybe you meant their tour dates.
I’ve enjoyed the rifftrax presents. Of course Mike, Kevin, and Bill are always my first picks. However, Janet Varney, Cole Stratton and Matthew J. Elliott bring a little variety to the table. I sometimes wish they could get some MST3K Alumni to join in the fun. When Mary Joe popped on for the “X-Files” and “Glitter” Rifftrax I was thrilled, but even she has been missing in action for a couple of years. I guess the rest of the crew are busy with CT and maybe under contract to never speak to rifftrax. I can dream though.
Ptomreeves-I agree, I enjoyed both Mary Jo’s and Bridget’s appearances on rifftrax, and hoped it would lead to maybe Frank, Trace, or dare I dream it Joel showing up sometime, but they’ve pretty much stopped doing the “guest star” bit. With the CT’ers, I get it, they’re doing their own thing now, but some of my fave Rifftrax were with guests such as Weird Al, Neil Patrick Harris, Richard Cheese, and the guy on Spiderman 3 (can’t remember your name sir, sorry, but you were hilarious!). They don’t need guest stars, but it makes it fun sometimes.
lancecorbain-
Yes, the “special guest star” Rifftrax were fun events, but they haven’t done one of those in a while. The last special guest Mike had riffing with him for a full length movie was Joel McHale on the Red Dawn Rifftrax three years ago. Paul F. Tompkins made a fun appearance at the House on Haunted Hill live show, but he only riffed a short and even that was two years ago. In fact, aside from Mike/Kevin/Bill, the only three people who’ve officially riffed feature length movies on the site in the past two years are Janet Varney, Cole Stratton, and Matthew J. Elliott. That’s why I have no qualms with having them mentioned on this site when they have a new release. It’s not like they riffed one movie several years ago and never showed up on the site again. They’ve been around a while.
By the way, the guy on the Spider-man 3 Rifftrax with Mike Nelson was James Lileks.
Can’t believe they didn’t get a Justin Bieber riff on the Flatliners credits (watch the sample and you’ll see what I mean).
To all the naysayers out there, Mike, Kevin, Bill, Joel, Trace et al. can’t do riffs forever, so it’s good to develop some riffers-in-training. In fact, if they could use a riffer trainee who is about their same age, I’ll sign up for that!
lancecorbain – Thanks for reminding me about Bridget’s Riffs! I thought her and Mike riffing of Grey’s Anatomy was pretty funny and it just reminded me they also did that horrible Nick Cage Movie “Next”. I downloaded it and the MP3 is ready to go. My evening is now planned. Of course my wife doesn’t know it yet. :)
ptomreeves-no problem, yeah, those are both pretty good. When watching Burlesque (don’t ask) awhile back, I thought it’d be a great one for Mike, Bridget and Mary Jo to do, if not the “dream team”, but oh well.
Burlesque? Yeah, I can see the promise in that.
So how did Alison Brie travel back in time to be the girl in the make-out couple?
