It’s still a few weeks away, but the RiffTrax Live show is getting closer all the time. They’ll be doing the show in Nashville, and from the Examiner.com crew there comes an interview with Mike, Bill and Kevin with Chris Griffy, who covers the “nerd culture” beat (ugh).
Nerd…..Really? Pop culture for sure but not nerdy. Not everything done on MST3K or Rifftrax involves a robot or a space ship or the future.
Fun interview. I believe it got the point across.
“nerd culture” sounds about right to me. nerd = spaceships. also i like the word better than “geek.”
I’ve seen the people that attend these Rifftrax live shows and yes, they’re nerds.
You know, nerd culture.
Like all of those nerds who are obsessed with and overly-knowledgeable about sports. Ooh, I think I’ll go to a sports bar. Wait, I’m not a total nerd!
Or all those nerds who put on those ridiculous costumes and go to those geeky, self-centered, single-topic conventions like the Oscars or the Grammys. Nerdy!
Or all of those nerds who talk about nothing but The Bachelorette or Dancing With the Stars or American Idol all day online. Why don’t you losers get out of your parents’ basements and talk to some real people sometime?
Or all of those nerds who have memorized the lyrics to every Bon Jovi song. Hey nerds, you know he’s not singing to you, right?
Or all of those nerds who watched nothing but Westerns on TV for decades. Hey nerds, while you’re fantasizing about being a cowboy or cowgirl, the rest of us will be over here not being totally nerdy.
Or all of those nerds who go see all of those interchangeable, boring, repetitive romantic comedies, family films, slasher films, cop films, comedies and so forth in theaters. Nerds, the rest of us will be over here watching something unique, original and completely not nerdy, like Star Trek XIX. Thanks.
You know, nerd culture.
Looks like they struck a nerve with WeatherServo9.
WeatherServo9, I think most of the things you mentioned are representatives of loser culture. Totally different from nerd culture. Just ask my mom, I think she’s upstairs right now.
I thought that was pretty great! Also, I had no idea the guys were doing “Bloody Pit Of Horror”, it’ll be fun to see what the masters do with it after having watched ICW’s take on it MANY times, very funny stuff.
I was telling this guy just the other day that I’m NOT a nerd! He must have believed me because let go of my underwear and walked away…after I called him “Uncle” three times.
WeatherServo9 #5 – Bon Jovi IS singing to me, thank you, because I AM living on a prayer and I DO just wanna live while I’m alive. Yes, my doctor sent my “slippery when wet” tests to the lab, but just to get a second opinion.
…
What about Nerds candy?
This geek loves Nerds candy. Uh oh, I mixed my dorky metaphors.
As for the interview…good interview.
Who cares about that “nerd culture” bull? They are riffing Bloody Pit of Horror! The Crimson Executioner didn’t see it coming.
Uh. I’m pretty sure that if you get to go to the Oscars or the Grammy’s, you’re probably not a nerd. And if you are a nerd, you’re one of the coolest nerds around.
Um, apparently some of us need to recalibrate our sarcasm sensors before reading WeatherServo9’s posts.
Couldn’t agree more with his point about over-/misuse of “nerd” with ironic positive spin, since my state recently elected a governor running on a “one tough nerd” platform. Since taking office, he’s killed film-making incentives, cut the corporate tax rate, tried to cripple unions…you know, nothing political, just nerd stuff.
We also need to return “geek” to it’s original meaning, and start biting heads off of chickens at our few remaining local comic shops.
What movies are coming up next on RiffTrax.com for folks to download?
Mike: We’ve just released a terrific Italian horror movie that we unearthed. We love to do the stuff that hasn’t seen the light of day. It’s called “Bloody Pit of Horror.”
:rotfl:
Excited as hell about The Bloody Pit!
This is one of the better interviews I have seen lately.
Chris Griffy either is a big fan, did his homework (which is rare) or is a quick study on the iPod.
Either way, he seemed to ask real questions, not just the usual “filler” stuff.
Thanks for the heads up on this.
Examiner.com alone deserves a big old UGH.
Bloody Pit of Horror… my eyes lit up when I read that. Cannot wait.
#5 – Nerd.
Whoa, excellent news on the choice of flick. However Rifftrax has their work cut out for them in following up terrific riffing by Incognito Cinema Warriors for the same movie.
Mike has a son in college. New MST3K stopped in 1999. Oh man I feel old!
New MST3K resumed in 2008 with Incognito Cinema Warriors XP, depending on if you like them.
Their riff of Bloody Pit of Horror is legendary.
