Ron needs to take out his retainer before recording…

I’ve been wanting to hear a Trace interview for a while now. Can’t wait.

I finally got to listen to this over the weekend.
It was odd but the quality of Trace’s voice was better than the podcast host.
Like I said before I’ve been waiting a long time for this. This literally was the first podcast long form interview I’m aware of for Trace. In a way it was a bit disappointing. The rapid fire wit I was hoping for was quite there to the level I thought it might be. But some interesting stuff is here. He went a bit more in depth (than the prior Dragon Con panel on video) about why he left the show. There was also discussion about Darkstar, his West Wing appearance, and his Freaks & Geeks (I wasn’t aware he was a part of this) and America’s Funniest Home Videos work. So there really was broad range of topics.
The oddest part was the host seemed to take a couple stabs at getting Trace to take co-credit for creation of MST. But to his create he gave Joel complete conceptual credit and would only take credit for being there to flesh it out.

Dan,
I agree that the interview was surprisingly low-key. I was rolling with his “SyFy movie titles” bit (Kegopus!), but it was mostly quite tame. No disrespect to host Ron, but a lot of that had to do with his approach; I don’t know if it is typical for him, but he didn’t do a lot to control the pace of the conversation. At the beginning, Trace was asking most of the questions – kind of an indicator to me that Ron wasn’t quite on top of things. OTOH, it did have a warm, friendly kind of tone. I have only heard Trace described as a really nice guy, and his pleasant nature really comes through in the interview.

But Trace admits to being something of a hermit. It appears his hermit factor trumps his wit factor. I suppose you are right. It would take a certain type of personality in the interviewer to tip those scales the other way.

Since when are interviews supposed to be performances? Can’t Trace just have a nice conversation with someone without expectations imposed on his wit? Maybe you guys should’ve informed him of your requirements beforehand. Sheesh.

I didn’t mean to imply I was saying anything bad about it. Because he is a (self described) hermit we really knew little about him. So the mind attempts to fill in the blanks. In this case my mind made him up to be something he isn’t. It happens. This goes back to my original post. I’ve been wanting this for a while now so I could get to know a little more about him.

Dan, are you referring to the rapid fire wit you were hoping to see? And so, because you didn’t see it here, it now suddenly doesn’t exist at all? Filling in the blanks with assumptions won’t help you to get to know people.

oddstocks> You’re still misunderstanding me. I didn’t say the rapid fire wit doesn’t exist at all. I’m just saying I now know if it exists it isn’t on all the time. I go back to my original statement. Trace is the guy I feel I “know” the least. One interview isn’t going to answer all my questions. I’m just listing off the impressions it left me with.
