What a coincidence! I was talking about Jerry Warren hours ago. This was John Carradine movie after he died, and it’s not a joke, As far as I know, Warren used footage material shooted before Carradine died, adding more nonsense to this nonsensical trip that is Wild…I mean, frankenstein Island.
Also, I never cared for the promotional poster, but this one is great. Specially with the Rifftrax official seal of approval!

Just a few seconds of watching the sample was enough to convince me to get this one. I just burned it and am about to watch it. It has a Crater Lake Monster feel (but even worse if that’s possible) and that is one of my faves of theirs. Keep the goodies coming guys!

Gads, this movie is awful. Like a couple notches beneath Planet of the Dinosaurs. The dialogue is often hard to make out. So far, Cameron Mitchell has spit up a green glob of something and Jon Carradine has only appeared in hologram form spouting weird random dialogue ala Bela Lugosi in Glenn or Glenda.

This movie is by the director of Wild World of Batwoman and it’s Wild World of Batwoman Bad in technicolor.

I rented this from Netflix a while back and this one is a doozie..very painful.I like that Rifftrax are doing grade Z movies, but I just hope they’re going to be funny..I bought Galaxy Invader and The Crater Lake Monster and they were ok..not bad,but could’ve been better.

Oh wow. Finally, the ultimate Jerry Warren “film.” And I’ve been wanting to see this for YEARS! The movie they should have done on MST but didn’t.

    Bring it on, boys!

@ Castle: You nailed it. It’s Batwoman in color. The climactic(?) fight scene in the lab just reeks of it. But worse, this one tries to take itself more seriously and fails on every level. And I mean EVERY level. Fortunately the riffing is funny, or I don’t think I’d have made it.

Excited about this as it right up my alley. And I don’t care what anyone says, Galaxy Invader is great. Hope this one is as good.

“12: I would add, Crater Lake Monster, Warriors of the Wasteland, Maniac, The Devil’s Hand and Voodoo Man. Very underrated rifftraxs in my opinion (or is it rifftraxes?)

I watched this one last night and it did not disappoint. This one is full of MST connections as Jerry Warren also directed Wild World of Batwoman as has already been mentioned and the crazy preacher from Giant Spider Invasion is one of the “heroes” As soon as the balloonists wash up on the island he goes into some crazy bit where he pretends to be a preacher. I didn’t recognize him at first but I knew that voice and thanks to a quick IMDB search I realized it was him. Also Steve Brodie from both Wild World of Batwoman and Giant Spider Invasion appears as a drunk henchman for the Frankensteins who cannot stop his uncontrollable laughter. John Carradine is another MST repeat offender having been in The Unearthly and Red Zone Cuba and last but certainly not least, Cameron Mitchell. I just kept muttering to myself how sorry I was for him. He was in a “real” movie with real stars Gary Cooper, Susan Hayward, and Richard Widmark in the ‘50s (Garden of Evil) and then was reduced to appearing in dreck like this. I loved the MST references and my favorite was when they started singing “Tusk” like at the end of Werewolf. I was laughing so hard tears were running down my face!

I hate to admit this but the preacher guy from Giant Spider Invasion had a nice body. At one point one of the bikini clad island women tells him he’s pretty and of course I laughed but then later when he had his shirt off and they were kinda giving him a sponge bath you could tell he was in good shape and out of that bunch of “good guys” he was the least repulsive.

I’ve actually enjoyed all of the Rifftrax grade-Z VOD titles – especially Galaxy Invader & Crater Lake Monster.

Wow…that has to be one of the WORST movies I’ve ever seen…makes Ishtar an instant classic. Excellent riffing though, never would have made it otherwise. Am I wrong or was the woman who “played” Shiela Frankenstein, play Batwoman too? Sure sounded like her. As for previous outings of Rifftrax, I LOVE Planet of Dinosaurs…the riffing in that was fantastic! I can’t wait for the next “Z” movie! Go Rifftrax!

    Snowcapjr,
Nice catch with Sheila Franenstein von Helsing (what a name!) being Batwoman. I checked on IMDB (what would we do without that site?) and it is her. Crazy!!

Planet of Dinosaurs is my fave rifftrax so far. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it and it’s laugh out loud funny every time.

Watched about half of this last night and LOVE IT. The only disappointment is that (so far) there are no Jerry Warren-related callbacks. So many familiar faces and of course, the trademark muffled Warren soundtrack, awful Warren dialogue and nonsensical Warren “plotting”.

Jeez, Warren makes Ed Wood look like Orson Welles.

Count me among the fans of Rifftrax’ Z-movie VODs. They’re on regular rotation in our household.

Wait, no one said “I’ll wait for the DVD” yet or “When’s the DVD coming out?” I hope this is a trend.

@ 13 Voodoo Man, Maniac, and Warriors: three of their best riffs.

I’ll throw in another plug for Devil’s Hand. That one seemed to slip under the radar pretty fast, but it’s a great MST3K style movie, and the riffing is great too.

Devil’s Hand, Abraxas, Warriors of the Wasteland, Galaxy Invader, these are some of our current favorites.

And I never got the prejudice against VODs — if you download the ISO, the disk you burn from it is playable on any DVD player.

Returning Wild World of Batwoman alums also includes Sheila’s deadish husband. I haven’t looked it up but I’d bet real money that’s the same “actor” who played the Dr. Neon in Batwoman. I kept feeling sorry for him because he didn’t have his own personal assistant mugging incessantly at the camera with his stupid monkey face.

The bearded henchman who carries the goat around in the second half of the movie is also the head of Ayjax/Rat Fink in disguise from Batwoman (Richard Banks according to IMDB).

For me, in regards to vod vs dvd. I miss not having the actual cover art. If rifftrax did their vods similarly to cinematic titanic (iso and case art) I would just buy vods. I am a purist and also find some dvdr’s stuff tends not to have the longevity of a regular disc

irregardless- glad such a stinkburger was done- i enjoy the current balance between vod kitsch and blockbuster movies rifftrax has of recent

Oh. My. God. ….just got done watching it. I’m at a lost for words. I was in no way prepared for how completely and utterly atrocious this movie was. Haven’t seen one this bad in a while. But man, oh man it’s a blast! I could play the “finale” on a loop, it’s so hilarious! One of my fave Trax already. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Good times! :]

Purchased and ready for this weekend. Rib tips, garlic bread and Rifftracks. I am set…

    @losingmydignity – Retro is in, so I will start a new trend…

When is the Betamax version being released?!?!? I am tired of sitting here in my 1982 Chevy conversion van listening to my extensive 8-track collection and wondering when RT is going to get around to releasing this film on beta. Until then I will boycott Rifftrax and be content with the soothing sounds of “Wings Greatest Hits.”

  28. Well, until they release rifftrax on wax phonograph cylinder, I’ll be content relaxing in my covered wagon in a loincloth while endlessly watching the grains of sand drain through an hour glass. If that gets too boring, I guess I could reread all my penny dreadfulls.

Okay, I’ll be that guy then: I’ll wait until this comes out on DVD. And then I’ll buy it in an instant. I LOVE seeing movies like this get the Rifftrax treatment!

  38. mstgator says:

littleamishboy: ‘Cause the DVDs that Rifftrax sells are pressed, not burned, and those have to be done in large quantities to be cost effective. Which is why they’ll generally only release actual DVDs for those titles that they expect to sell a bunch.

@losingmydignity Wow, that’s a neat connection there. Gummo, a movie directed by Harmony Korine, who also directed a movie called Julien Donkey Boy which starred Werner Herzog!

I understand this VOD thing, but it’s no fun sitting in front of my computer trying to actually pay attention to something worthwhile. I don’t mind burning my own DVDs, though. Every one that I’ve burned works just fine.

  41. JeremyR says:

My trouble is, my internet is just not fast enough to download the ISOs to burn them. I’ve got satellite (all I can get where I live), which means I have 5 hours a day to download stuff (otherwise it’s very strictly metered). And when it’s unmetered, it’s pretty slow – I’m lucky to get 2 gigabytes in those 5 hours.

They used to offer their VOD titles in DivX format, which was nice, because I could download that easily enough, and my DVD player would play DivX files. But for some reason, they stopped offering that. So I have to download WMV and try to convert, which usually screws up the audio sync, or watch on my computer, which isn’t as much fun.
