UPDATE: Tony Redman of Popdose.com reviews the set.
Our pal Bruce Westbrook has a review that mostly focuses on the extras, which we appreciate ’cause a lot of hard work goes into them and they often get short shrift.

Well, I’m gonna buy it based on this positive review. Ah, who am I kidding–I was gonna buy it anyway! Believe it or not, I’m most looking forward to having the collection of promo bumpers–nice idea for those of us who couldn’t experience the joy of MST on network television.

Typo Sign! I think you mean “XXIII” instead of “XVIII”
I wonder what Volume XXIV will have.

I think 24 and 25 are going to be interesting with the possibilites of Fugitive Alien 1 & 2, Rocketship XM, Jungle Goddess, Radar Secret Service, Samson vs the Vampire Women , PumaMan , Horror of Party beach. I think Volume 25 could have a couple of key episodes like Rocketship XM and Samson but it depends whats on the 24th Volume.
With a lot of titles apparentley now available we could see some cool stuff
I am looking forward to the V. 24 announcement

I pre-ordered this set as soon as it was available, but I liked reading that review. I got a few laughs from the descriptions of each episode.

They liked it. But did they like it very much?
• “Vintage MST3K Promos” (14:17)
A whopping 29 VHS-quality bumper promos for episodes from the show’s Comedy Central years, including Viking Women vs. the Sea Serpent, The Giant Gila Monster, The Indestructible Man, The Magic Sword, Fire Maidens of Outer Space, The Day the Earth Froze, Eegah, and Mike’s first outing as host, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.
Now that sounds excellent.

Promos. Proof that Shout Factory! reads these boards. Or just an awesome coincidence. Either way, thank you Shout Factory!, and I hope to see more promos on future sets.

Promos for other eps, eh? Oooh, that’s a new one. Looking forward to this boxset. :)

I was somehow under the impression that Comedy Central stuff was unavailable to them (don’t know exactly where I got that idea).
Does this mean we can eventually see not only Turkey Day commericals (“We Gather Together …”), but their Fourth of July, Death & Taxes, etc, etc, bumpers?
And I had no idea that the titles mentioned above had become available. Dare we hope to see a Frank-centric set? If Shout! has rights to his first *and* his last …

Not to point out another mistake but weren’t the idea of March yesterday, Sampo?

At the rate things are going, I’m holding out the hope that a complete MST run on Shout! may one day be a reality. Dare I dream? Anything that I can never, ever, ever hope to see (KTMAs excepted)?

Dare! Dare!

Do they find the right holders to Puma Man?

Oh the irony. As I was pointing out Sampo’s mistake I made one myself. “Ides” not “idea”.

Sorry: did they find the right holders to Puma Man.

@Earl B-
Yeah, Comedy Central promo material is surprising to me as well. They had to go through Viacom to get those, and God knows how many hoops they probably sent SF through to get those.

The bumpers sound worth the $$$ by themselves there… :) I just watched my old copy copy of Diamondhead. So that sucks…
Alien from LA on the next one please. Big Lots is about out of the movie DVDs. So (note to the rights holder) it’s time to make some more money off that my friends.

The ‘Life After MST3K’ series sounds like a good idea. Gives us a chance to find out maybe some new stuff to look for (though I already have, and love, Mister Murphy’s book) and to assure us they’re keeping busy between convention panels… :)

Too bad it seems these promos weren’t preserved in broadcast quality like the Turkey Day stuff we got on Night of the Blood Beast. (The SciFi channel special on the last set looked like a VHS copy too.) I’m glad we’re getting them though!
Will be interesting to see if the Comedy Central logo has been blurred out.

Sweet, I am definitely excited about the promo bumpers. Shout is incredible as always.

Every new release is new to me. Hopefully it’ll arrive before my birthday which falls over Easter this year so I’ll have 4 days off to enjoy the set.
But usually just before a set is released there’s an announcement of the next set….so roll on XXIV.

Does anyone know if the “VHS quality” bumpers were supplied by fans?
I thought I’d seen references …somewhere… to a fan-site mentioning they’d sent Shout a bunch of material they’d gathered. (Really specific, I know)

It would not surprise me, given the quality of the Sci-Fi making of special included on the last set. Can’t believe BBI or Scii-Fi didn’t have the actual master for that.

Neptune Man #15 – I found the rights to Puma Man when I vacuumed under my bed. So it’s cool. Shout can go ahead and release it on DVD. Fine by me. :-D
I totally agree with Sampo that sometimes DVD extras get second-banana status. However, consider that, as great as it is to have MST3K on DVD, we’ve seen the feature presentation countless times. The extras are what really make the sets for me, cast interviews especially!
The “Frank dancing in a black leotard” Easter egg is a close second!

As an extra they could have the movie, Mike/Joel &TB riffing, then CT or RT riffing on that and finally CT or RT riffing on that. It’d be like the painter painting in Escape From The Planet Of The Apes. And then time travel could be real !! Think I’ve been working too hard and need some time off, I should really just relax.

#25… Riffception. Go deeper.

Also, a headsup — ZaAt, better known to us as Blood Waters of Doctor Z, has a new DVD/BluRay release. The Onion AV Club calls it “lovingly, if inexplicably, restored”.

Yeah, I think the episode promos are going to be from fan copies. I’m still looking forward to them tho. Hopfully there will more on future volumes.

They are indeed VHS-quality promos. I’m watching ’em right now. Also, they didn’t blur the logo or anything.
