    Wow.
I can’t help but notice, though — there are some shadows missing from the bottom of the screen, and some elements from the audio track are gone…

Looks great, but that’s not how it’s gonna sound, is it? I ask because I have surround sound and I’d really like for that sleaziness to travel.

One thing is even more abundantly clear: Diane Mahree is one of the most beautiful women who ever lived.

It looks AMAZING! I can’t believe the difference! It’s too bad it wasn’t restored BEFORE the Shout! Factory rerelease…

#2, No, he just used the public domain audio for this example. He said he has a better audio source that he’ll use for the re-release.

I have three DVDS of this, I wont buy another. What next the BLU-RAY with better picture, better sound and in SUPER 3D and SMELL AROUND?

I’m dumbfounded at how good this film looks (although no amount of restoration can fix Hal Warren’s incompetence, which shines through clearly when the shot is out of focus). I just can’t get over how unfair it is that “Manos” has survived in pristine condition and some of the classics of the silent era survive in fragments or in terrible condition.

#11-It is unfair, but stop and think about when Manos came out and how often it was shown, or seen even at Drive-Ins. The classics felt the heat of many projectors and repeated showings, Manos only really got seen and came to life because of those “MADS DOWN IN DEEP 13” if you know what I mean. When it was first shown cast and crew sneaked out of the theater with heads down and their tails between their legs. Why the guy that played ( or “Tripped” his way as ) Torgo had killed himself.
File under: Only the good die young, or Hope I die before I get old or It’s better to burn out than it is to rust. OR I DON’T WANT TO BE SITTING HERE WATCHING THE REELS GO ROUND AND ROUND. What was I talking about anyway?? Oh yeah, how it’s sad that the films of the silent era are in terrible condition. Like those films I will be silent now…..

OMG, this looks BEAUTIFUL. Sorry, I think Manos deserves the loving care and attention. It’s brought my family so much pleasure, both through MST and in its uncut pristine glory.

Can’t wait for the finished jewel.

It would be a dream to see Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic get together to do a new version of this movie once the whole project is done. Maybe they could do it for charity. Maybe it could be a Rifftrax style movie theater event. The possibilities for world domination would be multitudinous! I’m just spieling here.

@16 revlillo..Even better if Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic did just one convention together, like they used to do when MST3K was still on the air and riffed on it.Here’s a dream guest list: Arch Hall,Jr.(playing some songs,of course),Jon Mikl Thor,Adam West,Reb Brown,Mamie Van Doren,Sally Todd(from The Unearthly),maybe the cast of Hobgoblins..any other suggestions? Maybe have Josh Way and Incognito Cinema Warriors riff on some shorts, too…Also,I’d like to know how us MSTies can get MST3K a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Or maybe Hopkins,MN name a street after MST3K? Just another thought..Think about it,won’t you? :-D

Couldn’t have picked a better scene. I’d be careful doing much more restoring, though. I think some of that grime might be load-bearing.

The restored version reminds me of a color episode of “The Andy Griffith Show”…with a creepy caretaker coming onto a pretty lady.

  24. Th1rt3eN says:

wow the lighting in the film isnt as bad as the original, I kinda think it added character film made it look bleaker more ominous. How ever now we will be able to see all the detail like the lamp ray eels on the wall next to the fire place.

On the down side the bad acting really stands out. Never has the long pause between torgos hair fondling and her reaction felt so lifeless and hollow.

the original version should be a special feature with the HD version in a box on the corner of the screen, it would be cool to watch the film like that or be able to switch it around, kinda like the picture in picture on a tv screen(do tvs still come with that function? my HDTV doesn’t have it)

    anyway i would buy it.

I am glad the restoration will be done. Now a bigger queston is will there be a MST3K version with the restored footage? Quadipled dipped? Yeah, I’d buy it but I’ll feel dirty. No cleaned up footage could really take away the weird feeling after watching Manos: The Hands of Fate.
On a side note when I was younger, 9 or 10, one of my dad’s Pueto Rican co-workers gave me the nick name “Manolito”. Which translate to “little hand” because I had small hands.
MANOLITO: The Little Hand of Fate…….Ha, tha’t funny!

  27. OMG. That’s interesting. I don’t think a MST3K version is really necessary but I’d be more inclined to buy the Manos blu ray if they bought the rights to Manos-The Play as a bonus feature.

Imagine, if you will, an on-stage reunion of “Zap Rowsdower” (Bruce J. Mitchell) and “Troy McGreggor” (Christain Malcolm) from The Final Sacrifice…………and SUDDENLY, without any buildup or fanfare, out walks “Satoris” (Shane Marceau), “Mike Pipper” (Ron Anderson) AND “Aunt Betty” (Dame Bharbara Egan) from the wings of the stage to celebrate the first, FULL-BLOWN “FS” reunion in over 20 years (SORRY…….NO Greidanus’s allowed!)!!!

To say that there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house goes without……uh……saying….. :-?

#14: It has little to do with how many times it was shown and more to do with the lost silent films being shot on dangerous and volatile nitrate film stock.
