Just got back, great double feature. The Astral Factor was marvelous riffing material. Of specific note was J.Elvis’ delivery, he was on fire tonight! His energy really stood out. They also updated many of the riffs for Frankenstien.

Great show! The Titans brought their A material last night. The Astral Factor was a really dull, go nowhere movie that was perfect for riffing.

On the good side, the cast kept their opening segment short. Each Titan came out on stage and only did a few minutes of material. Although Joel didn’t do his magic trick or the MST3K theme, he did come out and explain the background and plot of the featured movie. They also kept the language fairly clean tonight.

The bad side as usual was the Keswick seats. Not made for anyone over 5′ tall. I was lucky that the seat beside me was empty so that I had some elbow and leg room to shift around in.

Well, I enjoyed the Keswick seats, but I actually had an aisle seat so I could stretch. As for the show, the opening segment was indeed more compact, and a whole lot of fun. I am basing this on the last time I saw them in Princeton, but their bits last night were much funnier to me. Trace did a great short bit from his book; Mary Jo did some comedy from her book which was much better to me than her bit last time of the scrapbooking. Even Gruber with J. Elvis doing a Dan Fogelberg song got big laughs.

The first movie was pretty awful, which made for great stuff. Any scene with the main cop and his lover Stephanie Powers got big laughs and were the highlights. The opening scene of Astral Factor also has to be seen to be believed.

Frankenstein was really good too, but the only real updates to the original DVD release is when they could squeeze in a more topical reference (which basically meant ripping on the Republican presidential nominees; there was a great Rick Perry line). And before anyone asks, the “breast blimp” was not used; they just saw fit to delete the quick shots of overt nudity from the film.

I must disagree with Darthservo though in that they did not keep the language fairly clean, unless you are noting that they only used the F-word once or twice. Actually, that word was used when Mary Jo flubbed a line about Star Wars (and Frank had a great quick comeback after Mary Jo screwed up). There was plenty of salty language. I didn’t care about it, but it was there.

Overall, it was a great night of comedy, and I was able to finally purchase the CT version of SCCTM, so I give it a huge thumbs up.

@Darthservo: I have to agree about the seats. It was my first time visiting the Keswick and I’m a pretty small dude and I was pressed for space in those seats.

There was a good amount of cursing, which is ok in my book- also plenty of dick jokes and one especially funny “pink carpet welcome” line (might have been Mary Jo’s best delivered line of the night)

Frank’s rip on star wars prequels to cover MJ’s flub was excellent.

And I’m so tired of news coverage of the GOP primaries that those riffs were a welcome dose of levity toward it.

Another slam-dunk live performance. The Astral Factor is perfect riffing fodder and I found the live Frankenstein much funnier than the canned CT version on disc.

(NOTE: This is the second time Cinematic Titanic has played the Keswick and they’ve also played the Trocadero in the Chinatown section of Philly — assuming some CT people read this, might I suggest the Tower Theater in Upper Darby as another potential Philly venue? It’s a great old live space and it’s basically across the street from the 69th Street bus/subway station; it’d be easier for suburban types to get to than Glenside)

Great show! We laughed so much we hurt! Does anyone have the lyrics to Gruber and J. Elvis doing a Dan Fogelberg song? We hate that song and loved their improvements. Please keep preforming at the Keswick–the acoustics are superb!!!

Loved it! Me and my friend were in the pit and were close enough to almost feel the mist of Joel’s spit-takes!

Had tears coming down my cheeks during the “Blackenstein” riff.

Just got home. This is my third time traveling to Philly just to see CT. Astral Factor NEEDED to be riffed in a bad way and Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks seemed much funnier than the DVD version. I was actually prepared for a longer warmup with Joel’s magic trick and the MST3K theme, but it still was first class entertainment.
Loved Black Frankenstein and It Stinks! And AF ends with about two minutes with no dialog – perfect fodder for the Titans and they hit it out of the park. Can’t wait to see them again.
