“Machete Maidens Unleashed”

A smart and funny guy named Josh Cagan (follow him on Twitter at @joshacagan! We do!) informs us that…

…a new documentary dropped this month about exploitation films shot in the Philippines, and “Brides Of Blood” (aka “Danger On Tiki Island”) is one of the films mentioned. It’s actually part of a trilogy of films, except all three movies seem to have the exact same plot.

The movie is called “Machete Maidens Unleashed” and it’s available everywhere people get media, these days. It’s a delight top to bottom. It also features a lot of women’s tops and bottoms, so it is decidedly NSFW. It’s also on Netflix.

Enjoy!

I’ve been waiting to watch this on Netflix, and tonight’s the night. The director previously covered Australian exploitation cinema in Not Quite Hollywood (also on Netflix) and that was a lot of fun as well. I think I may have to indulge in a couple adult beverages to help me get in the right frame of mind to truly enjoy this. Oh drat.

@Cabbage Patch Elvis: Not Quite Hollywood is INCREDIBLE. And even though it’s not the same director, “American Grindhouse” (also also on Netflix) rounds out the triple feature nicely.

After an unfortunate incident at the park, I always keep my machete maidens on a short leash. With a choke collar. They can get unpredictable.

Fun movie. By the way, there’s a great book out on the history of Fillipino cinema including “Brides of Blood” aka “Danger on Tiki Island” and “Blood of the Vampires”. It’s called (oddly enough)”Cinema of the Phillipines: A History and Filmography 1897-2005″. The author, Bryan L. Yeatter, also writes in Screem magazine #23 which also features Joel Hodgeson on the subject of Manos!
