  2. I wouldn’t have Ring of Terror and Hobgoblins up there but otherwise that’s a pretty good list. I’d switch those with The Dead Talk Back and the Brain that wouldn’t Die. But that’s just me. Or maybe The Incredible Melting Man somewhere in there.

  3. I don’t hate Hobgoblins, it just wouldn’t make my Halloween top ten. Ring of Terror just sucks, though.

I agree with Castle Monster about the Brain that Wouldn’t Die. I’d also put Horror of Party Beach in there too.

On the whole, I like the list.

I’d have added “Black Scorpion” (WHAT?! I like that one!) and I would have swapped out “The Unearthly” (which despite the “Time for go to bed” bores me to tears) for “Earth vs. the Spider” or maybe “It Conquered the World”.

Wish I could see this list, but the site is blocked at work for me. Bummer. Have to wait until I get home. I might have to watch Hobgoblins tonight, though. It is so truly awful!

How could Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders not be on there?

  15. Oh geez! Where oh where is Werewolf? How could they have missed that one?

Being from Another Planet has a lot of Halloween partying in it. Not a great ep, but whatev.

Kinda makes one wonder why CC went with a Turkey Day Marathon all those years instead of a Halloween Marathon.

  17. I suppose that’s because people don’t usually get Halloween off since it’s not a holiday. But it should be!

Good list, but no Zombie Nightmare. It’s always on my top ten.

Regarding this list, Pod People said it best: It stinks!

They should have included the two episodes with actual Halloween themes: Godzilla vs. Megalon (the invention exchange) and Being From Another Planet (the movie and host segments both have some Halloween themes).

Agreed #19, and to make room, I’d personally omit Hobgoblins and TISCWSLABMUZ if only because they just scream Summer more than Fall, but that’s probably just me.

Fun article, but Hobgoblins is so bad I rarely watch that one. My Halloween MST3K list would have included Robot Monster instead. And Lost Continent, after all it’s loaded with monsters (i.e., lizards with stuff glued on them). And Robot Vs. Aztec Mummy is a really fun one too, especially the climactic fight where the cardboard robot costume comes apart.

  22. My favorites on that list are REVENGE OF THE CREATURE and THE SCREAMING SKULL.

  23. Kenneth Morgan says:

It’s a pretty good list, actually. Though I do agree that “Werewolf” definitely should’ve been included. The compiler does score points, though, for saying that it’s not an all-inclusive, definitive list.

Yeah, Merlin’s Hop, er, Chop, Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders. I’d replace Ring of Terror with the that one.

  25. Mr. B(ob) says:

I’m a Ring Of Terror fan myself and was glad to see it on the list. The fact that it’s supposed to be a thriller and isn’t at all is one reason it worked so well for the show. The ridiculous diatribe that starts it off really sets the tone and it’s not a good one. The Old School sketch, Autopsy sketch and other host segments in that episode have always been real winners for me. Hilarious.

The Unearthly and Bride of the Monster are other good choices. Zombie Nightmare might have been a good one to include and that Merlin’s Shop film too. Teenagers From Outer Space, definitely would be on my list.

I like Ring of Terror, so it was actually kinda of nice to see, but not having either Werewolf or Touch of Satan are big negatives for me. And, honestly, as much as I like the episode, I don’t consider Revenge of the Creature very Halloween-ish.
Oh! Another one I like that not many others do (AFAIK) is Mad Monster.
“If that girl starts singing, I’m gonna lose it, guys, I swear…”

    @ #19

Well, one problem with “Godzilla vs. Megalon” is that, from the point of view of casual fans or newbies it isn’t readily available.

I was a couple of months into getting into MST3K before I even heard of DAP Central.

I presume the others on the list are easily findable on DVD or Netflix or such.

And even DAP Central is, possibly, legally speaking as far as the Godzilla movies go, a gray area. And if you asked Toho they’d probably call it flat-out illegal.

I’m not saying Toho is right (in fact, from my point of view they need to remove the stick and just let Shout Factory have the rights for a more reasonable amount of money) but International Copyright is what it is.

Sampo – this would be a great pre-Halloween weekend discussion topic for next year. But then, maybe I’m rushing the Halloween season.

Decent list, but I would have added “Touch of Satan” to it. I rememberr seeing that movie way back on “Commander USA’s Groovy Movies” when I was a kid and it scared the ba-jeezes out of me. Course, when I saw the MST version, it made me wonder WHY it scared me so much….but, I digress.

“Zombie Nightmare” should have been on the list as well.

I did “Bride of the Monster” to start when I got home and then moved to “Devil Doll”. I almost did “Zombie Nightmare” for the second, but “Devil Doll” is actually a little creepy.

I have to go with RING OF TERROR. Yeah, the movie sucked but the riffing was number one. The autopsy skit was hilarious, almost gave myself a hernia laughing every time Gypsy collapsed in horror during the procedure.

I watched Devil Doll last night. It’s tricky to pull off, but the movie succeeds in being simultaneously creepy and tedious. Bite me, I’m a toaster strudel!

Castle Monster #15 – Are we allowed to watch pieces of episodes? “Being From Another Planet” has the GREAT Haunted House host segment.

Going by the Mstie rankings from my site (and assuming I correctly categorized a movie as “Halloween worthy”), the list looks like this:
    1. “Werewolf”
    2. “Manos”
    3. “Soultaker”
    4. “Zombie Nightmare”
    5. “Monster A Go-Go”
    6. “Touch of Satan”
    7. “Beast of Yucca Flats”
    8. “Horror of Party Beach”
    9. “Incredibly Strange Creatures…”
    10. “Giant Spider Invasion”

Honorable mentions: “Night of the Bloodbeast”, “Track of the Moon Beast”

The trouble with limiting yourself to a list of 10 is that there is only room for 10. The other issue being that it’s your opinion, and as apparent above, opinions vary.

The four MST3K eps I watched this past Halloween:

    Werewolf
    The Brain That Wouldn’t Die
    I Was a Teen-Aged Werewolf
    Tormented

Granted there are plenty of other worthy titles but there were all I had time for.
