“Wither Thursdays?” Update

Well, I appreciate everybody’s thoughts on the “wither Thursdays” issue and, having read them, and discussing it with Erhardt, I agree that Film Crew, Cinematic Titanic and RiffTrax episode guides represent a level of “mission creep” we have always tried to avoid. So those efforts are being put on the back burner.

And while I had wanted to speed up the process of finishing up the episode guide, I understand that there are a lot of newer regulars who have not had a chance to weigh in on these episodes.

So, I will continue the one-episode-a-week-on-Thursdays pattern and do the rest of the series, which should take us into 2014. At that time, we’ll decide what to do next.

As for the BBI-produced videos, I will slot them in between seasons as we go: for example, I will do “Poopie 1 & 2” in two weeks, after we complete season 3.

Again, thanks for everybody’s input.

It’s a mistake not to include the Film Crew.

Frankly, I just want to take the opportunity to thank you for running this website. I appreciate the time and effort it must take. I recently tried to make a website for our school’s ESL dept. and my head almost exploded from it. I like that you try to foster community here.

Why did I need to say “frankly”? It sounded right in my head, frankly.

Excellent news, I give you a standing ovation. Well not quite, I’m pretty lazy for standing. But I do applaud your decision.

I really look forward to Thursday and reminiscing about the episodes, so I’m definitely on board. For some reason, it seems to really keep the show alive for me.

Sampo, you are wise as usual. By the way, did you come down from PA for the CT Live show in D.C. last Thursday?

As much fun as it’d be to tackle the various Brains’s sequel projects, I’ve had to beat up that lousy Christmas Creep in my retail job so often in this month alone that I’ll trust your judgement in avoiding his cousin Mission Creep; THAT Creep sounds disturbingly tenacious.

I agree with #4. This is and always has been a great website, it’s the first thing I look at in the morning and when I get home from work. Five years ago when we lived in Maine I had it always on my computer at work. You and all that post in it have a true love for M.S.T. and all connected with it, and it shows how a bunch of creative people (you included ) have been a major part of our lives. Just a show with a guy and a few puppets watching bad movies. I don’t think so, stop and think of how many times you’ve watched these movies over and over, but if you were at the movie theater you’d have walked out or fell asleep. I have movies I really love and watch them every once in a while, when I’m in a certain mood, these shows I watch just about every night. And when I’ve had some hard times to deal with (my wife’s cancer, the loss of my parents, and the loss of her parents, along with pressure at work.) these bad movies with a guy and a few puppets have made me forget for a little while my problems. It’s as if they’re saying to me, come into the theater and watch this with us, see if we can help forget for a while. Kind of corny I guess, but it’s how this show and these people have made me feel for over 20 years. And this website is a part of that too. So keep up the good work, and know that every day I’ll be checking this out to learn more about these talented people that have made a big difference in my life.

Sampo> So what will be the mechanics of this next pass through the show? Will you revise and extend your “official” episode guide? Will you re-open the existing discussion thread? Start a new thread and paste selected comments to the old when it done? …

I believe “Mission creep” and “Christmas creep” are two of many components of the Creeps Machine.

Just a question, are the POOPIE! extras on the RHINO discs the complete tapes or edits. I hav’nt seen either in a long time and if they are slightly different which will we be discussing? It will be fun to see those again.

Keeping this site Mystery Science Theater focused sounds like a great idea. Keeping up with the show’s creators/producers new projects is interesting, but Mystery Science Theater is truly what I cherish and appreciate. This is the only non-email website I check consistently. It too is cherished, thanks for making it exist.

It looks like we’re all in agreement here (I disagree!) about how great this site is and how much we appreciate the work that goes into it. I have a Gary Cooper fansite and it does take a lot of work but when it’s something you love, it can also be fun.

Captn Ross Hagen explained exactly how I feel about the show. I have most of the eps in audio files on a flash drive and I listen to them when I’m at work. I’ve been a fan since ’93 and it’s like these people and movies are old friends. It was a great show and this is the best MST site!!

I second or third or fourth what everyone else is saying, I’m glad the Thursday discussions will continue. They have encouraged me to watch episodes I thought I’d never watch again and thank Sampo and Erhardt for running this great site. I never would have heard about CT or gotten to see them live and meet the cast if it wasn’t for this site so I will be eternally grateful just for that alone.

I like the idea of continuing with MST3K, but I think there should be some CT/Rifftrax support (of their DVD titles at least).

As I believe someone once said, it’s sort of like the rock group Yes. They had so many personnel that they broke up into Yes (ABWH, the classic lineup) and Yes West (the 90125 days). But still, it’s basically all Yes. Or at worst, ASIA.

Beyond that, I think being fans of MST3K, we need to support the newer efforts. Sure, none of it is as good as MST3K, but it’s funny, and more importantly, it’s a way of paying these people back for the work that we love. Coverage of CT/Rifftrax would surely drive more traffic sales to them, and they need it. So many MST3K fans have never heard of CT/Rifftrax/Film Crew…

awww, I was kinda looking forward to discussions about the alumni projects. The Rifftrax forum has too much other stuff on it, and the CT forum has been pretty much dead for a long time.
