It looks like RiffTrax is going to take another run at putting on an online show, again using the UStream system. On Friday they presented “BaconCam.” Next Friday, Oct. 21, it’s “Vodka tasting, Live from RiffTrax HQ!” Clearly both of these shows are practice runs, making sure they can work out any problems before Friday, Oct. 28, when they plan a “Halloween Double-feature Marathon.”
Did you watch today’s netcast? How was your reception?
More info on the Oct. 28 as we get it.
For anybody @Rifftrax: Hello – will this Halloween Double Feature Marathon &/or the Bacon Cam/Vodka Tasting shows be released on DVD later?
I hope this somehow works on the iPad, I’d love to watch it.
Very intrigued by that Halloween Double Feature Marathon, would definitely pay for that if it was two never-before-riffed movies!
Great way to shut out those of us who don’t have state-of-the-art internet hookups.
These guys must really hate to tour.
The posted link goes to a page that has the Halloween double-feature scheduled as Thursday, Oct. 27th – not Friday, Oct. 28th, as listed here. A Friday night makes a lot more sense to me, so Sampo, do you have inside info that the info on the linked page is wrong? (I hope so, since I work on Thursday nights…)
Halloween 2x feature! oh boy! :heart: :devil: :cat2: :heart: :pumpkin: :cigarette: :panda:
Including the RiffTrax offices themselves, if previous live streaming attempts are anything to go by…
Had to shut it off to keep from drooling all over myself here at work. Seems to work, but there were a few glitches here and there.
Did they announce the movies? I wanna know!
I use a 3mb DSL line which is hardly “state of the art” and the streaming worked great.
Why taste any other vodka when Bakon (http://bakonvodka.com/) exists?
Looks like I’m going to miss it. I have an older computer where video streaming works OK for about three minutes, then it turns into a slow series of still images.
Again, I hope this ends up as a DVD eventually, or I suddenly get a whole lot of cash to buy a new system.
The “Bacon Cam” was interesting if only because it seemed more like a glimpse into the office life of “Rifftrax” rather than an actual attempt at creating a “show”. The lack of Kevin & Bill was noticable as Bill going nutz on bacon would have been priceless.
For a first run, it was okay, many of the comments from viewers centered on the girl with the “Captain America” garb, otherwise what we saw for an hour was people walking in, eating the bacon that was cooked, then walking out of the shot. I’m curious to see for this upcoming “double feature” if they are going to either split-screen the movie and them commenting on it or do we just see the films and hear them riffing it.
Perhaps the biggest reaction was from the “cook” pouring the excess grease down the sink drain…man, if my Mom had been watching, she would have thrown a fit…
Yeah, that’s perfectly good grease that could go on your gut, butt, and thighs! So wasteful…
@Chuck #2 it won’t work in Safari on the iPad since I’m pretty sure Ustream uses flash, but I believe there is a Ustream app (at least there is an iPhone one, don’t know about iPad). That would probably work for their regular channel, but I don’t know what will happen if it is a pay per view event, because usually for those you have to be logged into your Rifftrax account and watch through their website.
Anyways, does anyone know if the Halloween show is going to be free?
I had the bacon cam on for a little bit and it seemed pretty smooth with only the occasional visual hiccup, but I was also using my connection quite a bit for other things, so that probably didn’t help. But since it was just a guy cooking bacon on an electric griddle in the Rifftrax headquarters kitchen while Mike watched and talked to him (mostly about bacon) I just turned it off after a few minutes. It was funny though when another Rifftrax employee walked through in the background to use the microwave and they were making fun of him for eating a Lean Cuisine.
@14
If they do it the same way they tried before with riffing. They sit in front of a LCD screen and the camera shoots over their heads.

Now, where’s this year’s?
@17 & 14.
That was the old setup – it’s much more professional now. We now have green screen, a virtual set, proper lighting, and higher quality audio equipment (not to mention the beefed up network infrastructure.) We’ve worked long and hard on making this look and function well and can’t wait to do some live riffs.
I saw a little bit of the baconcam, but did not hear it. This was due to technical issues I was having on my computer, however. It was having other issues as well, and a reboot finally corrected them. Sadly, by the time I finished rebooting, the baconcam was over.
@19
Wow. So a bit closer to a return to the old shadowrama from the old cowtown puppet show days.
My computer is too old for such Awesomeness!!!
Can’t stream on my computer, so I hope they don’t use this as a pretext to stop or do less live shows. Nothing’s better than having an audience laughing alongside you
I’ve only tried purchasing a ticket about 20 times with 4 different cards and each one is declined (yes…they are all paid up and valid cards). I really want to see the Rifftrax, but this is really pissing me off.
Wow, wonderful weblog layout! How lengthy have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy. The whole look of your site is wonderful, as neatly as the content!
