I’ve never before wished I lived in South Dakota. It’s a strange feeling.
I wonder, will Joel sit in the audience and watch the show? And, if so, will he laugh at himself? I doubt he ever sits down and watches old episodes, or remembers much of their recording. It must be an odd sensation to see a younger version of yourself gadding about on the big screen.

let’s see, a 1000 mile drive, 18+ hours behind the wheel, no vacation hours on the books at work…..Joel as much as I would love to shake your hand, I don’t think I can pull a fast one and see the show. Joel and Manos together for twenty bucks…it just breaks my heart I’ll have to miss this. :brokenheart:

I could do with a four hour drive. Ticket bought. :)

Looking at the map, Sioux Falls is at the eastern edge of South Dakota, right near the Minnesota border. Hmm… That’s only about a 22 hour drive. Maybe if the price of gas drops precipitously in the next week.
I wish one of the many NY film festivals would host something cool like this, but they’re too snooty and/or DeNiro-y.

Dear god, I move away from Missouri and CT has played St. Louis twice since, and now South Dakota? On the one hand, hooray for the midwest, and a lot of cities that usually get left out of major tours, but on the other hand, DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!!!! God, that would be fun.

Would beer or wine enhance the Manos viewing experience?

I agree with Sharktopus, I have never been jealous of South Dakota until now.

I drove through South Dakota once. It was the part that had nothing but rocks and highway. Sorry South Dakota but you do have Joel and Manos. All I have is Manos.
My name is AL. I take care of Alabama when the Master is away.

Hmm, driving to S. Dakota, passing lots of farmland that all looks the same and feeling as though I maybe unwittingly taking part in a snuff film? Damn, I just might have to go.
I bought the collector’s edition of this episode, it’s just as awesomely terrible as I remember it being, the extras are really good.

I’ll be the person here to say that I’m not only from South Dakota, but that I’m happily going to the event! Sioux Falls is a thriving city that is very unlike much of the rest of the state – so I’m not surprised it would be able to host an event like this. The RiffTrax Plan 9 live show drew a pretty packed crowd to the theater it was featured, so needless to say there’s enough of a fanbase in the general region to support this.
Sadly, I really have nothing for Joel to sign other than maybe my “Essentials” disc. I’ll have to think of some ideas.

Wouldn’t this make a great extra for an upcoming box set release??

My hat’s off to Joel for not only partaking of something like this, but to do it in what has to be considered such a small market. Almost any other celebrity who’d even consider this would demand it be held in a New York, L.A. or Chicago. Wish I could attend!

A lifetime New Yorker, I left home to take a job at the University of South Dakota about two years ago. I’m about 45 minutes from Sioux Falls. I assumed I’d lost all hope of ever meeting Joel figuring that CT would never come out this way. Well, not only is the weather better out here (no hurricanes, no earthquakes), Joel has practically fallen in my lap. I’m going to the show and here’s the best part – I do business with a magazine based in Sioux Falls and they are having an invitation only after party following the show featuring a meet and greet with the man himself. So yes, Don R, there is a South Dakota.
@Captn Ross – I’ve never viewed Manos without wine or beer.

Not to poopoo anybody’s praise of Joel for doing an even in SD, but Sioux Falls isn’t all that far from where he lives. (I think he’s back in the Mpls area again.)
I don’t suppose there’s enough time for Shout Factory to get a crew out to this – it would make a perfect special feature for that Manos special edition that’s… oh, yeah. Nevermind.

I’d like to say a personal thank you to any and all of you who are making the effort to come to our humble little film festival with a big heart. I’ll have to start working on a prize for who drove the most miles to attend. Judging by the comments, sounds like beer might be the answer. Thanks for being jealous of South Dakota for the first time Cheapskate Crow! It won’t be your last. See you at the event everybody – I’m the fest director and programmer – and I will greet (toast) you from the stage!

Julie #20 – If I live in SD, but I drive around the block a thousand times on my way to the theater, do I win the “drove farthest” prize?

Thank you, Sampo. I live in Sioux Falls but had no idea this was going on until you mentioned it. (Julie #20–I’m kind of a hermit, so please do not take this as a poor reflection on your PR campaign :).)
Hey, SD MSTies, let’s all be sure to cheer at the mention of the Corn Palace in Segment 1!
