Jason Lee was still busting his skull skateboarding in 1989! Brandon Lee wants his movie back… if he were still alive.

Hmmm. I’m getting that weird “echo/repeat” sound problem when I try to watch the sample. At least, I HOPE it’s the sample doing that…and not my brain!

Josh Way did a great dvd riff of this flick.

Oops! Wrong Lee! Thanks for the catch! Now fixed.

Normally I watch the preview but since I can download and burn this tonight will wait. Will make a nice surprise. I did look it up on IMDB and was struck by how much Brandon Lee, in another film, The Crow, looks like the Joker in that Dark Knight film I haven’t seen.
Anyway, a new riff of an old film. Psyched.

Not some bad riffs.Would like to see Josh Way do this with the guys, since he did a decent job with this movie a while back.

Wow. Didja notice the australian Susan Powter fromm Space Mutiny is in this too? Looks good. Borgnine is good in anything.

@8 Fred Burroughs..I did,too,but surprised they didn’t mention it..oh,well.

Oof! I had the misfortune of watching/mocking this one years ago. A friend was trying to convince me of the true greatness of Mr. Lee after I had made fun of his performance in the Crow. Sadly, Laser Mission did not change my mind.

My God . . . I . . . I actually own the unriffed version of this.

Just watched this one with the riff. Really good riff, a return to high form after the mild Thor. Um…is Brandon Lee’s character bleeding black blood later in the movie?! WTF?

I wonder what movie from the “50 Action Flicks on 25 DVDs” collection they’ll do next…

That’s actually the downside to these VOD titles. They are public domain (or really cheap to license, so you can buy them for a $1 on a dvd), so you are paying $9-10 for a riff.
$6 would be much, much fairer.

Considering the time and energy it takes to come up with quality riffs, 10 bucks is a bargain in my book. Keep it up fellas!

This looks real funny and I’m glad they’re doing more recent PD titLes. JUST LOSE THAT GOD-AWFUL ARTWORK! BRING BACK THE BOBBLEHEADS!!!

Was I the the only one who automatically thought “Laserblast” when they first saw the title? I’ll download later today and watch before Mythbusters.

From the sample clips this looks like a winner.

$10 is a great deal if it’s funny.

Another Space Mutiny vet in this one also–Graham Clarke. He played Capt. Scott Devers. That name doesn’t ring a bell. Well, everytime he was seen (he had short, bleached white hair) they said “Oi!”
So, what is Laser Mission–a Space Mutiny reunion? They couldn’t get Cameron Mitchell, so they tapped Ernest Borgnine.

I just wanna say how great life has been going ever since that blaring guitar was removed from the endings of the VOD, shorts and feature commentaries. That “Rifftrax: some movies have it coming” line no longer chases me in my dreams and I am even starting to get out of the house and around more. I want to thank everyone who helped persuade the Rifftrax guys who listen in on us here and I want to thank you, the hardworking people at Rifftrax.com for listening to the people. And of course the forum staff who make it all possible. It really is an improvement.

re # 21
Oh, yes. I so agree. My girlfriend really hated that. She seems better now too and even talks to me after we’ve finished a rifftrax. Tell ya, I was getting pretty tired of her blood-curdling screams.

re #21 I agree-gree. Now can we get them to stop bleeping out profanity? Or at least offer the choice of bleeped or non-bleeped ‘trax? Why even include swearing if you’re just going to cover it up with deafening beeps?
and stop using the aforementioned unappealing artwork!

@23
I prefer the bleeps. Not because I’m prudish – I listen to Louis Black uncensored – but because I feel it fits the tone and context of this manner of riffing better. A couple times recently they left some things unbleeped to ensure a bit of a “startle” for maximum effect, and those worked fairly well, but on the whole I think it sounds inherently funnier with the implication that their reactions are so extreme they need to be “banned.”
Also, parents may want to watch some of these with their kids (especially the shorts). The option to bleep or un-bleep is a good concept; don’t know exactly if that’s feasible, though.

Bobbleheads and ‘super-deformed’ proportions are abominations. The cartoon-style artwork works much better, and of course, Disimbaudio is awesome. I love to see how he’s used in the artwork.

Not to open up old wounds, but that’s really the one thing that creeps up the back of my neck with the Mike/RT era.
(Clint voice: “We ALL got it comin’, son.”)
The whole concept of MST3K from the beginning was that J&tB were being tortured with bad movies, and riffing was their only survival tactic.
The Mike era, SciFi and onwards, basically picked movies to go with their existing jokes, and went into the movies with a smug “bring it on”, which made it seem more like they were there to, well, bully the movies. Only two or three times (Batwoman, Hobgoblins) was there ever humor about a movie they couldn’t handle, where it was already a pretty common joke for Joel&co. during the Sandy Frank era.
With Rifftrax, of course, they’re free of Pearl Forrester and Bob Honcho, and are free to shove Marvel and Tolkien movies into the locker, or dig up more Ernest Borgnine to take another few potshots at Merlin’s monkey.
As one poster pointed out, I’d like Cinematic Titanic to pick B-movies that’re a little less…squalid, but at least they have the idea that we should be staring at something we can’t explain, instead of bringing chains and baseball bats to the rumble.
(And again, note who got kicked off the cover.) :)

“The Mike era, SciFi and onwards, basically picked movies to go with their existing jokes,”
Proof please?
The Sci-fi Channel mandated that the movies had to come from the sci-fi, horror, or fantasy genres, so as to match the channel’s theme. There were only two exceptions out of 48 movies during that era. The film library they had to pick from was limited.
And if you think that only “existing jokes” were predominant in that era, I can only conclude you either haven’t watched much of it or you have a selective memory. I.e., remembering what bothered you but not paying much attention to the bright spots or the variety.

Unfortunately, my current computer set-up makes VOD downloads a bit of a crap shoot. I’m hoping this’ll end up as an actual DVD release, or as an audio-only track.

I can’t help it. I love this film. I’ve owned it on DVD for years and years, hoped it would be riffed but honestly I’ve probably watched it a good 15 times at least. Usually drunk, sure, but Cheers! I’ll check this out when I’m home from work tonight.

Wow… just wow. I really had no idea that there was a movie worse than The Room. I really had trouble watching this one entirely thru as the lack of continuity, horrific acting and insane accents pained me in ways I cannot describe. But the riffing is quite good and there are great observations on the cinematography (furniture cam!, curb cam!). Well worth the money.
One complaint just to throw out there to see if anyone else had this. I got the email from RT that the title was out… I went to the page… and for over an hour the “buy” button was not active and still said “Oct. 4th” on it. Sort of a pain as my keyboard was totally filled with drool after sixty minutes of wanting this masterpiece, but that may just have been an isolated issue.

A reminder to those orbiting the satellite:
To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to point out to our commentators that “EricJ” is actually longtime RATMM (rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc usenet group) troll and smug fool Derek Jannsen. A quick search into RATMM on Google groups will reveal postings by Mr. Jannsen that are eerily similar to the postings of “EricJ” on this site.
(And in case you haven’t gotten it yet: Eric J Derek J)
Have a nice day.

#26: Yes, we get it. You hate Mike. You’re not opening up old wounds because clearly you’ve never let them close since the mid-’90s.
Re: The topic at hand… great riff, worth the $9.99 for me.

How is it that no one has yet mentioned that…..Woman’s…..VOICE!! *Gahhh!!!* She’s Daisy Duck without all the refinement.
Great work once again, gentlemen. We slapped down another Hamilton for your talents and came away satisifed.

@26 who the hell cares anymore? except you of course

Apparently this movie was a reunion for Space Mutiny alumni. Also spotted Guy Pringle who I believe played Kalgon’s lobster boy bodyguard.
And sorry, EricJ. I still love the Sci Fi era shows and Rifftrax.

That was the funniest rifftrax sample clip I have ever seen, and I’ve seen some funny ones.
Two days later and I am still recalling the Charles Nelson Reilly riffs and laughing.
The Borgnine shirt thing and the othe stuff already had me laughing but the charles Nelson Reilly imitation put me in tears.

Reading the comments now, I am so pleased to read that they removed that terrible loud guitar from the ends & beginnings of things. I hated that so much!
You would think that people who make a living pointing out utterly stupid and annoying decisions in video-making would have picked up much earlier something that ruins a viewing experience.

Oh, hey, I remember this one. Back in college a few guys hosted a crappy movie night every week, and Laser Mission was one of them. Sure hope Mike, Kevin, and Bill get as much mileage as we did out of the odd scene questioning the existence of a jeep.
Looks like I’ve got a purchase to make, then…

#26-I cannot roll my eyes and groan hard enough at you, sir.
#28-Right there with ya, bud, if they slap this on a dvd, I’ll buy it. I went months wondering what the whole Ice Cream Bunny thing was about.

@#28 & #39 AMEN. I very much prefer have a dvd copy. I’d pay more than $9.99 for it. Some of us just don’t have good computer equipment to do downloads and burns. I wish I had more rifftrax titles but unless the make a dvd it will remain just a wish on a very long list. :-(

The cover of the Fun With Flicks version makes it look like the characters are standing in a pile of tribbles…

If anyone wants a DVD, I’d be more than happy to burn one for those who don’t have the space, or good connection, to download. I have a bunch of blank DVDs. Just need to buy cases. Email me off list: fozzyfangirl2008@gmail.com

Oh, I’d totally be up for a DVD of this. I’m just not one for downloading huge movie files and stuff. And as for the $9.99 price tag… I’m fine with it. It gives people who put in a lot of work more money. The price tag is more than justified by the enjoyment I get from these.

@ sweet, innocent #37. They didn’t remove the beginning guitars from the MP3 commentaries (yet! *fingers crossed*) just that one jarring chord at the end, which makes the bigger difference. It’s always been easier to start the riff track at low volume than to jump for the remote every time for that incoming ending.

#23 Zee> I have to agree with #24 Raptorial Talon. I think the bleeps are part of the joke and not censoring. I think they’ve proved they don’t mind going blue from time to time even if rarely done. But sometimes it’s fun to bleep just because it lets the imagination of each individual listener run wild. Think of it as Mad Libs meets Rifftrax.

I agree about the bleeps. Just thinking about Samuel L. Jackson and the bleeps in Star Wars makes me giggle.
By the way, what’s everybody’s favorite from the whole year of the VOD’s ?

I loved this episode. The movie was perfect for the RT treatment and the crew was firing on all cylinders. Good stuff.
