I am going to the show tonight. I had planned to go tomorrow night, too, but I waited too long to purchase tickets; that show is already sold out.

Taking in tonights show as well. Actually good to hear tomorrow is sold out. Had been a little concerned that I would be sitting in a half empty venue given that the ct folks have pretty much gone ghost on us for awhile now.

It was in the low 40s here in NY last night. Does that mean it’s subzero in Minneapolis? Maybe everybody who went are still waiting for their cars to warm up.

Just got back from the show tonight. Had a fantastic time. Everyone came out and did a little something before the show. Josh sang the Joel-era theme while accompanying himself on the bass. Several kids right up next to the stage despite the disclaimer on the ticket page that the show was not kid-friendly. Frank looked noticeably uncomfortable, but went through with some rather risque jokes in his bit anyway. Mary-Jo gave a very funny intro for Dave “Gruber” Allen who was also very funny. Trace and Joel were great, too. Then they took a break to get everything ready for the taping.

The riffing was in nearly top form. A harsh riff about Saint Paul didn’t sit too well with the audience. Mary Jo and Frank each flubbed a line, but recovered well. And the crowd was in a good mood.

Speaking of which, the “other Crow” Mr. Bill Corbett was in the audience. He sat just across the aisle from us and I got to say hello to him after the show. Very exciting. Trace came out and said hello to him before the show and gave him a shout-out during his pre-show segment.

And, of course, we got to say “hi” to the Titans during the meet and greet afterward and get autographs and pictures. A good time was had by all. Looking forward to the DVD in my stocking this Christmas.

Very enjoyable. My friend and I were at the front. We were one table away from Mary Jo’s family. I heard her husband say to some of the kids where Mary Jo would be sitting and to stick their tongues out in that direction. I also noticed Bill Corbett and his wife there. The kid sitting next to us was going to try and get his autograph, but, Bill got up and went to the lobby after the kid got up. I think I saw Tom Noel there. I love when Gruber ripped the Star Wars Blu Ray: “Stoic Artist Revisions” Perfect! “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Can’t wait for tomorrow night. I hope I have a different seat, I wasn’t too happy listening to “Theater People” talk. Now it’s Midnight, Time for go to bed. Speedy :)

Where was the Meet and Greet held at last night? I went on Thursday and there was no formal thing, they were just hanging out in the Mexican restaurnt next door. Everyone had a small crowd around them for a while, but by the time it died down and I could go up and say hi, the Titans were settled in to eat. Joel was at the table next to us but he was eating with people he knew and I didn’t want to bug him. But the rest of Thursday’s show was great! Trace’s elderly homo joke killed!

The Parkway website said the meet and greet would be next door at the restaurant, so we were lined up with some folks near the door to Pepito’s in the theater lobby. Then someone came out of the theater and told us it would be in the theater itself. So suddenly we were near the end of the line instead of the front. But it went pretty quickly. They had a table set up in front of the first row of seats facing the stage.

The theater needs to do a better job with the ticket website. I checked it yesterday at about 5:00 and it said, “Availability: 152 tickets.” I didn’t see any way to buy anything online, so I drove to the theater…where I was told it was sold out. Went back home, checked the ticket website, and it *still* said there were 152 tickets available. Not. Happy.

(And no, I couldn’t buy ahead of time. My weekend plans were so up in the air, I wasn’t even sure I’d be in town last night. If the site had said it was sold out, I’d’ve been resigned, and perfectly happy for them. It’s the misleading information on the confusing ticket website that’s annoying.)

Rattlers was perfect fodder. I must admit, hearing Frank do his same jokes two nights in a row was good for me, since I remember them better in repetition and Friday night I was more tired. My friend and I ate at TGI Friday’s in St Louis Park afterwords and I couldn’t help wondering which one Mike Nelson worked at? Is it even still open? Hope we don’t have to wait another three years for a return to MN. I should have bought Trace’s book Friday, they were out last night and Trace forgot to bring more. Also, MJ’s husband Ron did a modeling bit to promote the merchandising bit. Great show as always.

Me, my brother and my best friend went to last night’s showing of Rattlers and it was an absolute blast. I live in Fargo so it was a modest apprx 3 hour drive for us to get there. It was my second CT Live since Octobber 2008’s Blood of the Vampires show which was the only other time they’ve been in Mineeapolis so it was great to finally see them back. The warm up routines with Gruber, Josh, (“Al Lewis’s Year of the Cat, making fun of lame 90s pop song lines) Mary Jo (detailing Gruber’s many funny bit appearances in TV and movies), Frank (historical Tweets) and Trace (some funny Q&A and sparring with the audience over whether or not to say “Push the button, Frank” to which he finally good naturedly acquiesced using Josh as musical accompaniment befoore he delivered the line with class) were all very funny and worth the price of admission alone. Before the movie started Joel did a great magic trick involving a shredded newspaper.

Rattlers was hilarious, the riffing was very sharp and all the titans seemed to be having a great time both doing their lines and chuckling whenever one of them would sneak in a zinger improv line. The movie itself was so absurd we would often laugh at scenes in the movie just as much as the riffs which always cause Joel to look at the audience, smile and nod knowingly and then look back at the screen. It will be a must buy DVD for me when it lands.

Unlike folks who apparently had trouble finding them after Friday’s show, they had a meet and greet table set up shortly after once about half of those in attendance had filed out of the theater and were warm and gracious as alyways. Absolutely wonderful show and hope it doesn’t take another three years for them to come back to the Twin Cities. Otherwise I may have to settle for traveling to one of their future Wisconsin shows.

I was able to make it to all three shows. What a great time was had in Minneapolis! I got into town Thursday and, thanks to my poor planning, ALMOST missed the beginning of the first show. Doomsday Machine was fun to see live, but Josh was having a rough night. First his bass amp wasn’t working during the warm-up act and then his microphone went out for what seemed like a fairly long time near the beginning of the movie. As you might expect it was handled professionally and humorously. The meet and greet was indeed held in the adjoining restaurant (Pepitos), but there was some obvious confusion. I’m sure that’s why they set up in the theater the next two nights.

My Minneapolis friends (who called me way back in 1989 and told me they had just watched a great show on KTMA that they were sure I would love. Something called Mystery Science something or other) were able to join me for the other shows.

As we were walking in Friday I heard a voice behind me say “wait a minute. You’re not supposed to let him in” and then I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see it was Trace Beaulieu. Then he said “well, he’s already in. I guess I’m too late.” We were thrilled that Trace then hung out with us for a while just chatting before the show. We also got to say hi to Bill and Virginia Corbett. I was hoping to get his autograph, but after the show he went directly to Pepitos and was sitting with family and friends so I didn’t want to impose.

War of the Insects and Rattlers were both great performances. I’m sure everyone will be pleased with the DVDs when they come out.

I’ll post a link on my website with my usual write up of the event. I will probably take a few days to complete. (I’m actually still on the road and have stopped in Indiana to take care of some business for my job.)

I went to the Friday show with 4 othters (3 who had never seen CT) and we all had a great time!

There was a slight mix up with our tickets and we were seated in the main floor section instead.

During the break betwen the opening act and the movie, RAD (Mary Jo’s husband) came over and offered to switch seats with my group since we had paid for the stage side seats. What a nice man!

We decided to stay where we were and it worked out great for all.

The riffs were great and the movie was as bad as advertised. Can’t wait for the DVD release!

Captain Cab, the riff maybe wasn’t really that “harsh” in retrospect. I don’t remember exactly what was said, but there was a building or village in severe disrepair on the screen and a comparison was made to Saint Paul. It might have been Trace, but my memory is fading already. When the audience reacted negatively, the riffer said, “Oh yeah, like you LIVE there.” (Which I thought was odd, because although the show was in Minneapolis, it was not out of the question for someone from Saint Paul to be at the show.) After that someone in the back of the theater shouted “Jerk!” I’ll be curious to hear if that is audible on the DVD.

Some other Minnesota riffs went over really well, but they weren’t negative. Years ago there was a rather intense rivalry between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, but I think that has faded substantially in recent years. Perhaps the last time the Titans lived here it was in full swing? They seemed taken aback that the crowd reacted rather negatively.

Ouch, that’s too bad. But seasoned MSTies oughta know almost everything is fair game for a little good natured ribbing, I think the audience might have been a little thin skinned on that one. And I think the “Oh yeah, like you LIVE there” line was probably meant more like “Of course we know some of you live in St Paul, that’s why we’re teasing you by giving you a little shout out!” :P Just because the show was born in the Twin Cities doesn’t mean every mid west reference has to be all sugar and spice. Thanks for sharing though.

As a lifelong New Yorker I’m very curious how an intense rivalry between Minneapolis and St. Paul would be expressed. Were gang colors involved?

Apropos of nothing, when I saw Rattlers at the Mayo Center in Morristown, NJ back in April, the elderly usher who took our tickets informed us: “Now there’s a movie and a show tonight, hope you enoy it.” (As if I wasn’t 1000% more familiar with what I was about to see than he was. ) I had never considered that there might be people buying tickets to Cinematic Titanic who aren’t familiar with movie riffing, but Kalbot’s story makes me think otherwise.

Live in the Mpls\St Paul metro area and it boils down to St Paul feeling like the red headed step child compared to Mpls….they have the pro sports teams, the U of M and most of the large corporations. I believe what Trace was pointing out is the running joke in these parts that after sundown life comes to a complete halt in St Paul…that it resembles a abandoned city….Just my call on it.

Sharktopus, I can see I’m going to need to choose my words more carefully going forward. I’m afraid in the Midwest, Vikings/Packers is about as intense as it gets, and I don’t think Mpls/St.P ever escalated to that level. More akin to Coke/Pepsi or McDonald’s/BK. Words were exchanged about the virtues of one city vs. the other and jokes were made by the denizens of one at the expense of the other. Living in the ‘burbs, I never really had a dog in the fight. Having worked in both cities, I’ve heard ’em all. Maybe it’s died down or maybe now that I no longer work in a downtown area I don’t hear it as much. Or maybe I just stopped caring and choose not to hear it anymore.

And rj may be right about the intention of the riff. I really don’t remember the specifics. In any case, my take was it didn’t go over as expected. Or maybe it got exactly the response they were looking to get? Who knows?

It was only one small moment in an otherwise very enjoyable evening, and the crowd was quickly back on their side. It just captured my attention at the moment it happened and the awkwardness stuck with me, if not the specifics. This is the last I intend to say on the matter, as I’ve found my posts now take up a full 20% of the discussion. Time to give someone else a chance.

As a bday present (50th-acckk) gf and I flew up from Austin, TX for both live taping shows (Fri and Sat). On Fri Trace actually gave a bday shout out about it lol. It was very surprising, needless to say. My gf put ’em up to it somehow. Not something they usually do for a CT show. But yayy! Lol :D And a huge thank you to Trace and the bunch for actually doing it.

Personally I thought War of the Insects was great on Friday! And Rattlers too of course, but I thought Sat enthusiasm was slightly down vs Fri night. Can’t wait to buy the live DVD’s!

The theater is in a small section of town that makes even Seattle look right of center lol. Wow. Saw some incredble sights (acckk)..

Was great to get out of the TX heat and into the 50’s-60’s for a few days (whew). Ate dinner on Saturday at Crave in the Mall of America. It was superb! Surprised to see how busy all the stores were in the mall too. Nice! Thanks for having us Twin Cities :)
