Ugh. Since the Lakeshore Theater closed, they haven’t been back to Chicago.

As I stated earlier in a different topic, For those of us who have yet to have a chance to see a live show [read that to include me] would it be possible to see some of the pre show entertainment? I would love to see the cast do some stand up comedy or a song or two. I’d love to see anything you want to film. Sound checks, rehearsals, popcorn popping, theater clean up, crowd scenes – whatever. Make me feel like I am there with everyone else watching the masters of riffing ply their trade.

Have they totally abandoned the Los Angeles area? Of course, the one semi-close venue they chose (UCSB…my alma mater!) will be featuring “Doomsday Machine” and not something new. Not worth the drive for me, I’m afraid.

My thoughts exactly. Well, except that I didn’t attend USCB.

Shoot. “Doomsday Machine” for those of us in Davis too.
Too bad… I would have definitely gone if they’d been showing “Rattlers.”

At least it looks like we’ll be getting that one and ‘War of the Insects’ on DVD pretty soon. (Just please let the sound be better than it was on ‘East Meets Watts’)

I see “Astral Factor” on the schedule… is that a new one? I don’t recall seeing that title before. Or is it a typo for “Alien Factor”?

  12. Yeesh. The closest to me is in Elgin, and I can’t really justify calling off work, driving over an hour (depending on traffic, likely substantially more), and spending FOUR TIMES as much as I would for a Rifftrax Live event (six if I went to both shows, which is much closer to a fair deal, though still a bit ridiculous). If they were closer (I really don’t see how they can justify ignoring Chicago while doing three shows in two days in Newark) and if the prices were somewhere in the general neighborhood of reasonable (a number of the other shows start at $25-30, which is more workable), I’d be interested. As is, pass.

Denby, your complaints are completely justified, save for one: There’s no reason to expect a live, in-person performance to be as cheap as going to a cineplex and seeing the RiffTrax guys simulcast from San Diego or Nashville or where ever. Take it from someone who’s seen CT Live – it’s absolutely worth the price of admission. (Travel expenses can be another story, but personally I’m quite happy to travel an hour or two to be in the same room as Joel et al.)

Bottom line, I’d argue that you get about twice the bang for your buck at CT Live, and that’s coming from someone who generally prefers RiffTrax. (Not trying to start a flamewar here – CT is absolutely amazing live, but their in-studio DVD releases have left me rather ho-hum. As always, YMMV.)

That said, I won’t be enjoying East Meets Watts in Times Square next weekend :-(( Gotta make sure the old apartment’s squeaky clean so we get our deposit back and can spend it on future CT shows. Maybe if it was a movie I haven’t seen them do yet… Anyhoo, the Best Buy theater is extra super expensive, but if anybody is on the fence about getting tickets, I recommend you splurge. I caught their first appearance in Times Square and the Titans’ excitement from playing Broadway was palpable. (Compared to, say, their more workmanlike yet still hilarious efforts in the suburbs.

I wonder if there’ll be some extra yuletide festivity at the Philly shows. I definitely plan to catch Astral Factor one way or another, but can I wait til they came back to Newark? Yes, we MSTies have gotten pretty lucky here in the northeast. I promise to keep you good folks in the flyover states in my thoughts. 8-)

I’m so excited! And they’re also doing Rattlers in Durham. Although, I hope to have the DVD by then.

Great seeing a new one, but I would have gone no matter what they show.

Well, it’s nice to see that added one new movie this year, but it’s like their warming up for something and never quite get off the ground. Have they explained in any of their interviews why they keep doing the same movies over and over?

I can’t believe they’re coming to Schenectady. That’s as close to my upstate NY hometown as they’re ever gonna get! When I first discovered MST as a teenager I subjected everyone in my family to it. I’ve roped a bunch of them into coming to this. Feels even more lucky, since “Astral Factor” is one of the few that hasn’t been released on DVD yet.

Hmm… An hour and a half to Newark or two hours to Schenectady? It might be worth an extra hour of driving to avoid Newark. If it seems like I’m awfully harsh on New Jersey, well, it’s only because they deserve it. :-D
