Coming Next from RiffTrax…….Jesse Ventura in 1990’s “Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe.” Due out Aug. 30. If you were at the RiffTrax Live show last night, use the URL they gave you at the end to see a preview (and get other stuff). Here’s the original movie’s trailer. Looks ripe.

I’ve seen this movie. Good fun, but lots of cheese. Should make a nice Rifftrax.

Someone on our forum asked, so I’ll nip it in the bud here: this will be a VOD title.

I’ve never heard of this before but am already immediately excited for this release.

Never heard of this movie either. Hey Jesse, was there a government coverup in the promotions dept?

Good grief! Horrible acting, substandard script, crappy CGI, and WWF/WWE trying to get free publicity by shoving one of their former superstars down our throats! (I’m a wrestling fan and I remember when those guys would appear in just about EVERYTHING). I can’t wait to download this!

Oh Lord, I’ve seen it too. My cousin rented it years ago. It’s a big ball of cheese, gotta get this one.

Excellent choice. A true classic of it’s kind (a Jesse Ventura film)

Can’t get the preview to play on the RiffTrax page sadly.

Check out the review at badmovies dot org..This doesn’t look worse than any of the movies Hulk Hogan ever did,but it’s still cheesy.

@5 This movie pre-dates all but the most primitive CGI. What you’re seeing here is good old-fashioned model spaceships, mattes, and rotoscoping. I miss it, actually, but I’m just old.

Darnit, that movie’s been on the Unavailable portion of my Netflix list for ages. Is this going to be VOD?

@bad wolf: See comment #2, above.

@Bat Masterson: Wait for it to load… it should show up but it’s a little slow. Looking into why that might be.

Thanks Erik, that’s actually a great deal.
i’m usually so conscientious about reading the foregoing comments too.

So was I supposed to get a sense of what the movie’s all about from the trailer? Obviously it’s not about anything, or maybe just stuff. The guy at the end of the trailer sounds like the villain in Final Sacrifice. “I know you’ve got the map, Troy.”

Wow, I have this movie on DVD! I paid $1 and got ripped off.

I’ve never seen the movie, it looks positively terrible! Perfect for Rifftrax.

You can own Abraxas in a set with other mediocre SF films including First Spaceship On Venus, for less than $4:

Amazon is selling it for about $10:

Canadian film. I own a cheap DVD that I got for $1.00 many years ago. Look for a cameo by Jim Belushi, whom appears as a favor to his then wife that also stars in it.

These VOD titles look Excellent! Every movie they do looks worse than the last, which means the riffing is probably fantastic. Too bad I’m so far behind on technology. I can only hope they will one day come out on DVD. :(

Fantastic news! Love Rifftrax VOD’s and this one looks absolutely hilarious.
I have to say, if anything, Rifftrax is actually getting even better as the years go by.
This week’s live show was their best yet and the past few VOD’s have been amazing.

I’ve seen this one, too. I used to own it, actually. From what I recall, it’s a vague Terminator rip-off thing. It does contain the line, “My box has VD,” which does not mean what you think it means.

Abraxas was available for $1 in the Deal$ aisle of Save-A-Lot for years. I missed my chance, but I’ve been happier with the dollar.

I agree with #23 it was their best show yet. I’m three for three with the Nashville shows. it’s so easy to travel 4.5 hours to get there. I didn’t notice any URL at the end this time, probably because I have a new digital camera I was playing with.
