UPDATED: RiffTrax Live Pre-Show Press

The pre-show media coverage of RiffTrax Live is starting…

Lance Conzett of The Nashville Scene quotes Mike in this piece. Okay, so it wasn’t an “interview.” Sheesh.

UPDATED: And here’s is an ACTUAL interview by Conzett with Mike.

NewHampshire.com has an item that is pretty much a re-write of the Fathom press release. I included this one just for reference.

UPDATED: Luke Baumgarten at inlander.com in Spokane interviewed Mike and, yes, it’s an actual interview

“Avi the TV Geek” at woodtv.com has a piece about the show.

While I preciate the positive tone of the the article I would hardly call this an interview.

I agree. 3 1/2 quotes dont make an interview. I’ll skip the show and pick it up on DVD when that happens, and you know it will.

Neat article. It does seem like a stretch to call it an “interview”, but it’s a good read none the less. Interesting to see Mike talking about conveying bitterness about the movies versus keeping a joyful atmosphere, since I know a lot of people think the Sci-Fi era veered too much towards the former. I do think the Sci-Fi episodes had a larger number of riffs that were just elaborate ways of saying “this movie is really bad”, but I don’t think it ever got to be much of a problem.

Off-topic, the amazing website Monster Brains has recently made posts showcasing the poster art of Albert Kallis and Reynold Brown. These two guys did posters for tons of MST3K movies, mostly those from Roger Corman and Bert I. Gordon. These are very large, high-quality images of the posters, with the downside that the pages may take a while to load. There’s also pictures of a magazine article about the making of these posters and 50s exploitation films in general, plus a documentary on Reynold Brown that’s up on You Tube. Interesting stuff.

I live in Nashville, and the reputation that The Scene has here is this: They really need better writers.

I hope to go to the Regal Manchester 22 in Charlotte, NC. I missed the last one they did because it was on my anniversary! And CT is actually coming to South Carolina next year…on my wife’s birthday! I’m still going, though. I’m just going to have to make it up to her with a nice gift.
