The New Bern Civic Theatre (aka “Athens Theatre”) in New Bern, N.C. is showing “MST3K: The Movie” Friday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. Find out more about it here and here.

    I wonder if an unedited version of “MST3K: The Movie” will ever see the light of day. I guess it’s up to Universal or whoever owns the rights.

    Universal. [sigh] I don’t think they were too happy with the end result. Sloppy marketing, a bit too much control of the product causing the charm of the show to be lost in the shuffel. Had the riffing not been A+ it could had been a diaster. I was surprised and thrilled that it was re-released at all. Had Universal had a little more foresight they could have included the extra footage on a special edition but that opportunity was squandered. [sigh]

    Has the movie ever played on basic cable? I would think the incredibly short running time would need padding out by any extra footage lying about.

    Maybe we should start lobbying Criterion to give the movie their special kind of love. :-)
