Greetings friends of MST3K and Cinematic Titanic.
Just wanted to mention that “Twentywonder” is just around the corner on July 9th in Los Angeles. The event is basically a “carnival of the mind” with lots of special guests like “The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club”, Exene Cervenka, Ed Asner reading Dr. Seuss, and even the original “Batmobile”. I understand that this year there is even going to be some LADY ROLLER DERBY ACTION! The only thing that won’t be there this year, unfortunately, is me. Turns out there has been a bit of a scheduling snafu, and even though it has been advertised that I would be on hand, again, unfortunately, I just can’t make it this year. I did, however, want to alert you to my absence and also still encourage you to go in the event you happen to be in the LA area. TwentyWonder is really a wonderful event and all proceeds go to the Downs Association of Los Angeles!
Cheers, and thanks, and please excuse me,
Joel Hodgson
Uh…….okay……
Where, exactly, is he going to be ??? We’ll all just go there instead!!! ;-)

Ed Asner reading Dr. Seuss? Eh…David Hyde-Pierce already did a better job with “One Fish, Two Fish” on the audiobooks, and John Cleese absolutely owned “Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are”? :)
(Kelsey Grammar on the two Cat in the Hat books, was…okay.)

Well at least Asner isn’t reading The Communist Manifesto.

I’d listen to Ed Asner read just about anything – he has such character in his voice.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are a group of young men who play the rock and roll music the kids like so much these days, in case you were wondering. They get the Sharktopus seal of approval – kind of a swampy, Black Crowes sort of sound. (I’m not good at describing music. They’re pretty good.)

Yet another Abe Vigota… Ed Asner! I thought he was…well, you know. Glad he can still read some Dr. Seuss and… oh! I ‘m sorry, didn’t mean it to sound like…well… sorry.. Go Ed!

Hey now, Ed Asner’s doing just fine. He was the voice of Carl in Pixar’s (typically excellent) UP and had a regular role on a short-lived sitcom earlier this year. (He also gave a memorable personality to Doctor Fate on Young Justice, a true feat if you’re familiar with the DC character.)

@8 UP! I bought that for my nieces last year but haven’t given it a go myself. :( Come to think of it…I did enjoy Ed’s commentary on some Mary Tyler Moore episodes recently. He sounded happy and strong. Go Ed! :)

Radioman, go rent UP immediately. You will not be disappointed. The missus and I wept like old ladies at a wedding. And laughed a lot too.

But DON’T rent “UP” if you want closed captioning, which the video company STOOPIDLY left off the rental copies of “UP” cause me to return it unwatched in protest and demand my money back.

Hmm… Apparently when Disney stripped all the special features from the DVD for rental, they removed the subtitles, too. Nice, Disney. Real thoughtful.
Hell, just buy UP. It’s Pixar – without talking cars – how can you go wrong. Or, if you’re radioman970, borrow it from your nieces.
