On the “Overdrawn at the Memory Bank” topic, someone mentioned how unintentionally hilarious the line “Mom, my nuts?” was by itself.
I’d like to suggest a topic regarding unintentionally amusing lines in MSTed movies that didn’t require any “enhancement” from Mike/Joel and the Bots.
Example: The line “Get outta here YOU DISGUSTING WORRMMMMMM!!!!” from “Outlaw” was HYSTERICAL and it only got stunned giggles from the riffers. The line alone was funny enough.
A lot of these became stingers, of course.
I’d say one of the classics is the inexplicably rage-filled shop keeper from episode 702- THE BRUTE MAN. “Creeper! Creeper! Creeper! YOU give me the creeps!”

From “Merlin’s whatever of Whatever”: (buff 70’s guy in chick magnet woody station driving slowly by oogling a woman on a 10 speed in unsexy 70’s exercise attire): “Hey baby, what’s happening?” reminds me of the Mr. Mike commercials.
The scene in Giant Gila Monster:
Drunk DJ guy: “How’d you get me in that bed, anyway?”
SingandIsingandIsingandIsing guy: “I just sat on you till you fell asleep”
(or something like that)
“Ready for Marriage” short — (Rubber band snap) “It’s gone!” “Where’d it go?” completely busts me up (as so many of the lines here quoted do).
This once again illustrates to me why MST3K works where Rifftrax often doesn’t — you really need a cheesy movie or short that provides enough laugh out loud (or just “shake your head in amazement”) bad lines and situations because as good as the riffers are they can only do so much.
The various musical numbers are, to me, the funniest parts in any given film. Partially because they’re frequently incredibly silly, but mostly because the “film makers” thought either that the band/performer was great or that they were friends that they promised to put in the movie…probably most often the latter.
One of the first that comes to mind are The Fontanelles (seriously?) in Hobgoblins. Also all of the musical/dancing acts in TISCWSLABMUZ were just…wow.
There’s actually very few performers out of all the episodes who could actually be construed as ‘good’.

Even more difficult, a not-horrible dance number.
#155 – “Hey good lookin! We’ll be back to pick you up later!” Good call. It’s funny, but the same scene from Merlin’s Chop always makes me think of the Three’s Company intro, only with a dark, child-endangering feel.

When ‘The Paper Chase Guy’ in ‘Warrior of the Lost World’ doesn’t watch where he’s going, and BOOM! hits the wall in a puff of smoke.
I just love the screech and boom moment, and then MST3K crew cheering and applauding his supposed demise.

Well, that rockabilly guitar band in “Skydivers” played some cool stuff. I admit the “Ha-so” introduction was a drag, as was that weird “To-BAC-o Woim!” voice at the start of another tune. But during the dance scene they do boogie rather nicely.

Jimmy Bryant certainly is an exception, and I would pose that the Del Aires from Horror of Party Beach are more than capable musicians, even though I don’t care for their ballad in the film. And I know few may agree with me based on Eegah, but I think Arch Hall Jr does a fine job with the teen-idol thing. Check out Wild Guitar if you don’t believe me.

The Ayejax (or however they misspell it) Company
The scene featuring a dozen or so duplicate Rat Finks
The Séance, featuring a spirit who only speaks fake Chinese
The list goes on and on…
“I saw your father at the hospital and he’s been badly burned, but he will be ok” from Horror of Party Beach. It supposed to be comforting but comes off as just weird.
The moment when El-Santo first walks onto the scene in sampson vs the Vampire Women
Slab Beefcake’s womanly scream as he jumps from the floor-buffer in Space Mutiny
The weird segway about “indoor mushroom growing” in that one short with the “squishy” girl.

I think the line is, “A reed-searching researcher?” Which makes it even worse.
Horrors of Spider Island has plenty, but my favorite has to be, “There’s no reason to panic. All we know is that the plane caught fire, and we lost radio contact.” There’s something so charmingly optimistic about it. :)
And I know it’s been said, but it can never be said enough times. “This is where the fish lives.” That’s the kind of line that you can keep riffing on for the rest of the movie. :)

I love this topic, do u ever notice all those hilarious moment when Joel/Mike and TB see something in the movie that is so dumb or just so “funny all by it self” that instead of riffing they simply laugh??? Well I’m sure all msties know what I mean and my favorite moment like that is….epp 821 Time Chasers, mid way thru the movie while Nick and “sa” are in “Bob Evils” mall skyway office(lmao) and the chairman(“Bob Evil”) explains to Nick about his contract and how Gencorp own it completly now…Nick gets a stupid dumbfounded look on his face and Mike and TB simply laugh…. Anyone know what I’m talking about or agree???

The scene in “Teenagers From Outer Space” where Grandpa is trying to get across the street. I don’t know why it’s funny, it just is.
The scene in “Girl in Gold Boots” where Buzz breaks into the prison. I don’t know what’s funnier, that their plan is based on the presumption that the guard won’t notice that one man goes out and two return, or the fact that it actually works.

There are so many entrys I cant read them all! I may have missed it but we should all hang our heads in shame for forgetting MR B NATURAL! The entire short was a WTF moment. It swung from outrageously funny to creepy all at the same time. I guess the one moment from this short that qualifies the most for this thread is when Mr B sits across from Buzz, legs akimbo, and Joel comments “Oh, Mr B!”

I must confess that I don’t really see talent as something that enters into whether a band/performer is good. Sure, some of the performers (Little Richard, for example) have had successful careers and that may have been the reason why said artist was in the film, but I think you have to consider how the song in the film compares to other songs by said performer.
After all, could you really ever say you’d listen to “Do The Party” outside of the film?
And really, the number is just silly. Especially in the presentation, but the song itself just isn’t that good.
Also, in the case of Little Richard in The Catalina Caper, to me he looks like he’s just in the movie for a paycheck and isn’t really into the movie (and probably high as a kite, which would account for the riff that Richard the tiny is “hopped up on the goofballs”)
I’m not trying to harsh your boner for life or anything. Just explaining why I wouldn’t automatically say that just because a performer in a film is someone of note, the song is good.
One of my laugh out loud, WTF moments, is the Bowller Hat Guy and his jaunty theme song at the end of THE DEADLY BEES. I think it’s as crazy as the haunting TORGO THEME. :lol:
I am eternally confused and amused by the line in Jack Frost when Ivan (as a bear) says to the old woman, “Father Mushroom Lied!” and the old woman gets all excited and goes “WHO DID!?!?”
And you think this is going to come into play some how, like she knows father mushroom or some such but no, the movie just gets all the more confusing. The lady never shows up again and never even gets her stick back.
#37: Not sure if you’re still reading this thread, but: His name wasn’t “Cornjob” They were calling him “Kon-chan” which is considered disrespectful (his name is Kondo; they should have been calling him “Kondo-san”). It would be like kids their age in the U.S. calling an adult by their first name without permission.
A few of the funny stuff in that film are the result of a really bad dub script (the “brother” thing is another example)
How ’bout that weird moment in MONSTER A-GO-GO where the lady comments, “They’re playing our song…”, the man responds, “Would you like to dance?” and THERE’S NO MUSIC WHATSOEVER…
I also get a kick out of THE CORPSE VANISHES where we get a glimpse into how horrible the mutant family’s life must be: In the middle of the night, we see the three of them sleeping in one room, fully clothed, the two boys in cots, the mom sitting up in a chair. Even better, Bela Lugosi strangles the old lady’s son… and she STAYS ON AS HIS HOUSEKEEPER! I mean, I KNOW jobs were hard to come by in the Depression, but COME ON…
How about the line from Boggy Creek, in the scene where that guy is searching for the Sears Cataloge. His wife asks him if he’s going to mess up the house looking for it, and he replies: I will if I have too, I rather do that then mess up my pants” Every time I hear that, I laugh unitl it hurts.
Both of these have already been said, but… Dave Ryders last girly scream in “Space Mutiny” that goes from sheer terror then to calm and collected and casualy bails out of his Enforcer…and funniest of all “Werewolf” or how that russian or slovakian or latvian or where ever the hell that actress is from, says it “Wurewelf”.
I gotta say “I’ts time for you to decide if you’re gonna be one of my team players or not” from Time Chasers. Not the line, but the guy’s voice, is the funny part.
Most of Jonathan Cooper’s lines from Merlin’s Shop, but especially “LEAVE!” and “Merlin, I LOVE YOU!”

When Contino “slyly” turns down the temperature knob to the steam room and then throws something at the bad guy in Daddy-O. The editing is so ham-fisted in that moment (and Contino’s body contorts weirdly on the throw), that I always chuckle at it.
All of Pipper’s lines in The Final Sacrifice. Every word sounds like it’s being said by a deranged Jim Henson. (Surprisingly, there are no Henson riffs at all during his scenes….just a lot of Yosemite Sam references.)
