Weekend Discussion Thread: Dream Guest Riffer

Alert commenter “DiskoJoe” suggests:

What guest riffer would you like to have seen in the theater with Joel/Mike and bots, if it was possible? The two people that come to my mind would be Ernie Kovacs and the early Woody Allen (circa “What’s Up Tiger Lily?”). I think that they could have given the bots a run for their money.

Well, Groucho Marx would be the obvious choice. I’d also love to have any or all of the members of Firesign Theatre in the seats.

Who would you pick?

Forgot we could also summon up the dead. From that group, I’d go with Dorothy Parker and/or Alexander Woolcott.

Just realized Joel’ll be mad nobody thought of Steve Allen…

Joe Bob Briggs (Riffing on some drive-in classic schlok-fest)
Bruce Campbell (Skewering one his own movies…so many to choose from)
Spoony (Riffing on a cheesy video game inspired flick…again, so many choices)
The Sklar Brothers (Riffing on a ridiculous sports movie–Teen Wolf, Anyone?)

I’m very lazy and didn’t read through every comment before posting, so forgive me if somebody already mentioned it, BUT…how about Joel AND Mike? Two in the same room!

Yeah, I have to also pick Norm MacDonald. Even if/when he bombs, the RT guys can call him on it.

Second choice would be Dave Attell or Lewis Black (or Mitch Hedburg when he was still breathing).

Agree with everyone who mentioned Bruce Campbell — I was fortunate enough to attend a screening of “The Man With The Screaming Brain,” where he sat in the rear of the theatre and riffed on his own creation. Pure (mad) genius!!

I would add to this list Paul Feig and Judd Apatow, the ringleaders behind “Freaks and Geeks.” They could sit alongside Trace and Joel, and leave us gasping for air thereafter. :-)

Bill Hicks, David Cross, Mike and Joel (as either’s guest), Mary Jo Pehl (loved her in Quest of the Delta Knights!), Ken Nordine, Tom Waits, Mel Blanc, Jim Henson, Frank Oz, ME, Robert Heinlein, The John Waters idea above is great, so is Bruce Campbell and Ernie Kovaks, whoever said that!

@124 Don Rickles did the same thing on a commentary for a Get Smart episode. He got annoyed/bored and just left after about 10 minutes in.

I 2nd (and/or 3rd and 4th) the Joe Bob and John Waters motions. How about Larry Blamire or Danny McBride?

#154-my dream is the CT crew and Rifftrax people all gang up on something like Night Of The Lepus or INFRA-MAN, either one would be fun. You realize this will never happen, unless it’s a one-time-only event at goddamn Comic-con with only 100 spectators, no cameras allowed, and never released on dvd. Sorry, I’m bitter. But that would be awesome.
