Great trailer, I love the old BB homespun style SPFX and interesting that Jonah is apparently a space trucker of sorts when he gets kidnapped? Anyways, I dig it!

    Carnival Magic (1981)
    Cry Wilderness (1987)
Hercules (presumably the 1983 Lou Ferrigno version, also directed by Luigi Cozzi, aka “Lewis Coates” of Starcrash fame)
    Reptilicus (1961) ***CONFIRMED***
    Starcrash (1978) ***CONFIRMED***
The Beast of the Hollow Mountain (1956)

Sweet! Very fun teaser. And I’ve always wanted to see Starcrash riffed in particular though only one fifties movie is a little bit of a disappointment. But only a little bit.

Most of them seem to be from the same general video licensing company from the same general time period, and all films that would, or have, surfaced on the PD backwaters of Netflix/Amazon Prime streaming in the recent past with few licensing issues. All the titles, including “Forgot” and “Hercules” seem to follow that pattern, so safe to go with this list, and WotLK1+2 would certainly fall in the category.
Joel said they might be spending a little money on one or two non-PD titles, which would apply to “Christmas That Almost Wasn’t”, but they had to do that one for a holiday episode sooner or later.

Seems a little repetitious to do both Ferrigno’s Hercules AND Starcrash, but they’re both riffable for similar good reasons.

If they are going to riff on “Yongary”, better strap in, folks. It has the worst Monster Child in the history of movies. He’s even worse than the gang from “Neptune Men”.

Hampton Yount’s Crow voice is so on point. Would have liked to hear a riff or two in the theater though! Still, very excited about this. It’s crazy how just getting one more season of the show was such an unexpected joy that I hadn’t even considered we might get multiple seasons.

the woman next to Kinga who looks a HELL of a lot like Pearl? That’s Rebecca Hanson, our new Gypsy!

OTOH, when dealing with a, er, overenthusiastic fan community–especially one that tends to ascribe superpowers to the show and its creators beyond the lot of mortal men–it’s important to get as many solid FACTS about the show nailed down ahead of time, and let that dominate the future tone of the discussions by the time it airs.
Otherwise, they might run into the same problems RT had in establishing itself as a god-like cult, in that fans might be looking at S11 and saying “Joel said they might be getting any movie…Cool, d’you think they’ll get Batman v. Superman?” Nnno…Just–okay, no.

Even if it might be disappointing to know what imaginary movies they might not be getting, or that they might’ve only gone to a limited number of wells for inexpensive PD titles like the old series or Cinematic Titanic did, at least knowing we’ll get two of the Land That Time Forgot/At the Earth’s Core trilogy (“People That Time Forgot” is playing unriffed on Amazon Prime) is a perfect context to set the series in before watching, and enjoying it for what it IS, rather than for what some more devoted fans WANT it to be.

In the meantime – would that be a maybe WDT BTW?-

youtube has a dozen or so full episodes of “Commander USA’s Groovie Movies”. From the ’80s I guess but I only discovered it a few days ago. Especially like the Commander’s unfailing good nature & enthusiasm: “In this one, Peter Graves is an entomologist on loan to the Department of Agriculture – oh boy, this sounds scary already!”* The host segments are full of absurdities but they’re just left for you to notice, not signposted, which is nice.

*Yes, that’s one of the featured movies.

Here’s a question: who is Kinga Forrester’s mother? I mean, the whole reason Clayton got into the mad scientist gig was to hide what an ineffectual loser he was, but Kinga is living proof that he got lucky at least once. So who would go to bed with Dr. Clayton Forrester? (Hmmm, it would have to be before he became a Star Baby…)

Might make a good discussion thread.

Well, since Patton Oswald plays “TV’s Son Of TV’s Frank” we can assume they both got lucky at least once.

Ivan has mentioned a documentary for the new season, which will be on the sets. So there’s at least that.

Joel has said none of the season 11 movies include shorts. My thought is that Shout should get the gang back together to riff some shorts as an exclusive for their own Youtube channel (and eventually for DVD), since shorts would be easy for people to share on Youtube and create buzz in between seasons.

Joel’s talked about sticking with movies that are widescreen since the show’s in HD now, so anything before the mid-50s is out. That’d probably eliminate the vast majority of shorts as well, although they too were projected in widescreen in certain cases. (Once Upon a Honeymoon, for example.)

Oh, and as far as movies go, never hurts to see what studios Shout has dealt with and figure out what they could possibly grab. For example, I count six titles from the list above that have been released on video by MGM, who has worked with Shout for years. Might be missing a few, though…

If they ever do a old educational short or a pre-widescreen movie, they could always add some curtains or borders to the side of the screen in the theater. Disney has something like that as an option on the Blu Rays of their older animated films.

Netflix still has a disk service?? Reed Hastings didn’t horsewhip it and sell it down the river with an angry resentful kick to its backside after the whole Qwikster disaster?

I remember seeing At the Earth’s Core at our all-night sci-fi festival (also, probably, because the rights were easy to get), and it’s eminently riffable…A Land That Time Forgot followup is one thing, but evil hypnotic pterodactyls??

well more than that, he was mentioned prominently in the run-up to S11, offering to bring his “expert-tweeze” for new on-set/in-cam special effects… so, unless that fell through and he just didn’t have the time to… guess we’ll find out later once the season’s released and everyone feels they can start talking without being in that “can’t talk about details yet” period! (besides though, who do ya know who’d have their own firesuit to bring to the set on a moment’s notice? ;0)
