Weekend Discussion Thread: Most Memorable Movie Theme Songs

I ran through the list of episodes and found that I had almost no memory of the theme music for most of the movies. I guess, being mostly low-budget affairs, the themes were forgettable, But I did come up with five that jumped out at me. I’m sure you guys will remember others I’ve overlooked.
Here’s my list:
• Episode 111- MOON ZERO TWO: The credits theme is full of insane brass and wild screaming. Great stuff.
• Episode 204- CATALINA CAPER: “Never Steal Anything Wet” sung by Motown great Mary Wells. Though this is not the catchiest tune.
• Episode 321- SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS: “Hurray for Santy Claus” A song guaranteed to get a theater full of sugared-up kids even more excited.
• Episode 508- OPERATION DOUBLE 007: “The Man for Me” song by an Ennio Morricone regular Khristy. Great additional lyrics by Joel and Bots, but already a bombastic wonder.
• Episode 601- GIRLS TOWN: “Girls Town Blues” sung by Paul and Mamie. Sets the tone for the zaniness to come.
Honorable mention: “Mah, mah, mah, mah, Mitchell” from episode 512- MITCHELL. Oh Hoyt, how could you!

Gamera is really neat, he has lots of turtle meat. After all these years I cannot get that theme song out of my head.

The opening theme to the Screaming Skull. You know. The one that sounds like My Sharona (WOO!).

Since I’m a late comer on this topic, I’ll agree with most of the above and add Devilfish. Seriously, I have MP3’d the theme song, stuck it on an SD card, and listened to it while playing “Endless Ocean”. Yay!

I’m surprised so many people like “Night Train To Mundo Fine”. It gives me the creeps.

i tend to like the ones where M&TB (or J&TB, of course) do something with the song:

-Escape 2000 – Cheesy 0s guitar quasi-metal. Crow goes mental playing guitar, and Tom turns it into “Separate Ways”

-Master Ninja – Ma ma-ma-ma master, Master Ninja Theme Song!

-Red Zone Cuba – i love when Mike improvises: “Drink Night Train/go to the basketball game/throw up under the bleachers.”

-Starfighters – ok, not really a theme song, per se, but the “poopie suit” song is great, with all the plopping noises and such.

Steve Vil (#56), you’re right, “Night Train to Mundo Fine” is perhaps not the most cheerful song, but it IS memorable. Long after I’ve forgotten most of the theme songs from MST movies, I can easily recall John Carradine’s singing. In fact, I can’t get it out of my mind, no matter how hard I try.

And thanks to hamilcar (#57) for reminding me about the Master Ninja theme song…that should have been on my list, as an honorable mention at least!

It’s funny how many of these theme catchy songs are actually the original titles of most of these movies. Five The Hard Way, O.K. Connery, Night Train to Mundo Fine and many more.

Night Train beats all of them. The movie may be an assortment of odd scenes thrown in a pile and mindlessly edited together but that song friggin’ rules.

The song from Blood Waters of Dr. Z is the funniest just for the line “he’s planning revenge on his friends”

“Deep Deep Down” from Diabolik, and “You Better Run” from Mitchell. They were both catchy songs, and they provided some great riff material.

I will go with Nutty little folkie song that opens The Blood Waters of Dr. Z.

From the line about “Sashaying through the

sarcasm” to the chorus “having revenge on my friends”

Did anybody ever wonder why he wants revenge on

his friends? Don’t you usually want revenge on

    your enemies? I don’t know.
