Well, since then, it seems that he’s only gotten more into it. He returned to ComicCon last year. And, last month, he posted this really funny video.
He will again be roaming the aisles of ComicCon this year. And this week he announced that he will be joined by none other than… The Master! He posted this video to announce it. (Note the interesting spin they are putting on The Master character — he is a manipulator of hands, or “manos”).
You can see there’s some wit — and some film-making talent — there, so we were delighted to hear that Rupert et al are now in the planning stages of creating a sequel to “Manos: The Hands of Fate.”
Even more exciting is that he has been in touch with some of the surviving cast members — and family members of cast members — from the original film, and is charming them back in front of the camera. One who has agreed to be in it is Jackey Raye Neyman Jones (Debbie from original movie, RL daughter of The Master, Tom Neyman).
Rupert tells us:
Jackey saw our productions. She told us that through the years, she has seen every ToRgO and Master, shtick, bit, film, play, comic, etc. come down the chute, but she thought they were all…(sorry to anyone out there)…unworthy. But she felt our “style, humor, intelligence, and love/respect for the characters” resonated with her, and she wanted to participate in some way! We told her we would like to do a feature length sequel to “Manos” with as many of the original cast and their families as possible. … We want to do it in a contemporary style (40+ years later), that still captures the spirit, awkwardness and magic of Manos.”
He’s also prepared to answer potential critics:
We realize we will receive much grief and criticism at every move… but at the end of the day, we hope that everyone respects that we are trying to do this in a way that really resonates and brims with the style, scope, eroticism, weirdness, grooviness and evil polygamy goodness of everyone’s favorite polygamist cult… and with the “blessings” of the only survivors of the original… which in our books validates our efforts! So any potential doubters, haters, etc. Go make your own film and do it your way!
Bernie Rosenblum, who played the guy making out in the car, has also agreed to appear in the movie. The plot and story are set.
They project a release date some time in 2013. We’ll update you on the progress of the production as it goes forward. You can keep up with them at TorgoLives.com.
Hay Sampo: have we done a “sequels we’d like to see” weekend discussion thread yet ?

I’ve got to say, the key to pulling off any sort of Manos related show is the deadpan seriousness.
I got to see the Last Rights Production of Manos here in Portland and it was fantastic.
Watching the vids on youtube I find that Rupert doesn’t really line up with my sense of humor. But I wish him all the best in making it happen! and i’ll definitely see it if it comes out!

#50 – Cooke and Landes move in with Chastain and the wife and all hilarity ensues in this light-hearted domestic comedy!

Chastain (Moe Howard) and his wife are tired of Cooke (Curly Howard)
and Landes (Larry Fine) sponging off them, so Moe leads them back up
the mountain range to prospect for gold so they can marry the wife’s
attractive sisters. Come to think of it, wasn’t
this short already made. :x  :o

But The Mah-ster would not approve…
Break a leg, Torgo. (Though, come to think of it, maybe that’s how he got like that…)

Ugh…I hope the future washed it’s hands first.

I dunno…..there is a certain perfection to Manos (yes, I said that and meant it). In my pompous opinion it’s far more suspenseful than, say, Memento. Despite the unintentional camp and hilarity and over-the-top cheesiness of Manos, a sequel that attempts to build in humor just doesn’t seem right (the odd one-liner to show the (in)human side of the characters is something else entirely, of course).
#19: Definitely the way to go…they even have access to the same type of cameras used in the original if the Hotel Torgo Documentary is accurate.
#52: Ayup, total deadpan seriousness…approach camp from the other side.
Now, where did I put that spec script for the remake of The Starfighters?

Wow, what an insult to the movie “Memento”. I actually think that movie was done extremely well. It was different.

Ok this how the Manos Sequel should go. Torgo and Mr. B Natural face off like Jason and Freddy did in and Tommy Wiseau from the “Room” Stops by to say “HI There.”

Of course Mr. B Natural would first explain in
excruciating detail the virtues of freezers for
The Master’s household. (Mike would sign the checks
after first arguing that “The Master would not approve.”).
And where would Mr. B Natural rank on the wives pecking order?

I would like to see the Crew of the SOL make a camio in this film.
After all, if it were not for them, no one whould know anything about this cosmic turkey.
A drive by, and counter scene, somehow he needs to put Joel, Kevin, Trace, Frank, and Mike on screen out of respect.
