   (Btw, is there any chance we could call in SEAL Team Six, and kill the head of Geico’s advertising department?)

   Like it was discussed here when they first announced it, when we get iconic Big-80’s movies up for Rifftrax, fodder-shmodder, we’re in for one Millennial-size heaping double-quart container of Cole slaw from the younger, cineplex-raised writers.

   It really emphasizes the “M&tB Hate Movies” quality of Rifftrax not to know a reasonably good/mediocre Big-80’s movie from an awful 00’s-10’s Michael Bay one, as the two are completely different species:
   There wasn’t a bit of CGI in “Krull” because it hadn’t been invented yet–The moviemakers went through a lot of trouble to get real locations, build big cavernous sets (the 80’s were the days when Soundstages Ruled the Earth), design elaborate art direction, train burning Clydesdale horses (I remember the making-of documentary saying you just don’t ride Clydesdales) and even stop-motion the David Bowie glass-spider.
   And yes that sounds like “We shouldn’t tease this movie, as a lot of people worked hard to make it!…(facetious Mike hip-snigger!)“, but what seems to bother us about 10’s blockbusters is how lazy, boardroom-concocted and by-the-numbers a Transformers sequel or “Crossover franchise-universe” entry comes off–for those who can actually physically tell the difference–when compared to a movie that a studio, director, or producer sent out on its own, hoping for that ideal niche audience.
   In the old days, you wanted an audience, you WORKED your stinkin’ @$$ off for one, and even if you didn’t, that could be part of its charm too.

   In case you ever wondered, getting a “real” movie for your five bucks (in 1983 dollars) was one of those reasons that “80’s Movies Were Better”, that remake producers keep trying to tap into, and never quite reach.

   Which is exactly why Krull was picked for Rifftrax Live. Of course we would rather watch an 80s fantasy movie in the theater over a modern day pic (which they couldn’t have afforded anyway). We got to see Krull on the big screen, and have a few laughs. They were very kind to this movie. A lot of the old snark was not present, and that was a pleasant surprise. It definitely had more of a “movie is our companion” old-school MST3K feel to it. So it was a win for fans of Krull and Rifftrax both.

   (Btw, how’s that Cole & Mike book podcast still going, haven’t heard any updates about it lately–Are they still picking on literary fodder, or did they pretty much begin and end at all the 80’s-geek references from Ready Player One?)

   Still, if “kinder” means that Kevin didn’t rage that any fan who enjoys any media set in a non-existent locale is a “Tolkien-reading loser from the Renaissance Festival (insert contemporary Game of Thrones reference)“, that would be a welcome change of pace–At least from the Film Crew movies, anyway.

   If you hate Rifftrax so much, why do you go to their shows? Why don’t you consider that a waste of your money?

   Conor. Conor Lastowka. Not Cole. I know I’ve said that to you before, so you’re deliberately persisting with Cole because either you think it’s funny to continue to misname someone, you think it shows just how much you don’t care about RiffTrax, you think everyone else is in on your little joke and enjoys it, you think everyone else is in on your little joke and doesn’t enjoy it, you can’t bother to change your RiffTrax macros to the correct name, or…you’re just that little boy who is not ever going to let anyone correct him or tell him what to do because Mommy made you finish your lima beans when you were five and because you went to a sci-fi movie marathon in college and that makes you better than anyone else who has ever watched or riffed on a movie before or since.

   I know I shouldn’t respond to you. You’re the type of person I’ve been ignoring online since the days of BITnet and 5600 baud modems. You do this for the kicks, man, and you’re an independent soul who doesn’t care what people think – as long as they pay attention to YOU, which is why you’re here and why you do what you do.

   Conor is Mike’s Kris Kristopherson. Much like how Kristopherson worked at Johnny Cash’s studio and pitched him songs, then was taken under his wing. Just like how MST3K did for Mike back when. I think that’s cool.

    I agree, but I honestly want to know why he watches. I’ve asked him before; the first time I was ignored, the second time I received the kind of smart-alek remark you get from a five-year-old. I figure if I don’t get an answer, I’m free to make my own assumptions as to why he continues to watch Rifftrax.
