    Wow.

Everyone missed the point. It’s not about friendly rivalry or anything of the like. It’s about “links.” It’s about “search.” It’s about “money.”

You see, the Rifftrax guys want to leech off of everything it can. It wants YOU to find THEM when you google “cinematic titanic,” hence the sudden inclusion and recognition of Cinematic Titanic on their website. This allows “spiders” from search engines to tie both Cinematic Titanic and Rifftrax together in search results.

The Rifftrax guys want YOU to find THEM when you search on YouTube, hence the sudden and PATHETIC inclusion of “Cinematic Titanic” as a keyword in all of THEIR posted clips.

The greedy Rifftrax guys don’t miss any opportunity to leech. Pathetic. If they had any class at all, they would simply shut their pie holes and stop trying to leech off of the new efforts of Cinematic Titanic.

But hey, when the ol’ cash machine is not ringing like it used to… and MISTYS begin to wise up to your less than funny rifftrax, well, what’s a bunch of greed driven guys to do?

LEECH! Try like hell to drive hits to your failing website.

And as someone else said, the doomed iceberg is more representative of the future of Rifftrax.

Yes, Jensen had revealed the terrible secret: Mike created a business so that it would –GASP! — make money! Joel and the CT crew, on the other hand, are happy to subsist on rain water and sunshine and will be giving all proceeds to starving puppies.

What we have here is a classic case of: somebody’s always gonna find something to criticize. Up to now, people were saying: “Wow. Rifftrax won’t even acknowledge CT! They must be worried!” Then they acknowledge them and people with way too much time on their hands have to come up with a new gripe.

The only thing the use of those keywords indicates is that the tech team at Rifftrax understands how the Web works. I guarantee when the CT site reaches the level of maturity the Rifftrax site has, they’ll be putting “Rifftrax” in their keywords.

Oh, and: lighten up, Jensen, or take it elsewhere.

For the people taking this seriously to the point of hatred towards one of the groups, you obviously cannot find the good natured humor of what was and still is mst3k.

This is not one of them.

I must have laughed at a good 60% of these posts…mostly those that slammed anyone for giving negative comments.

I guess if you don’t follow the positive click around here, your opinion isn’t with ****? It’s also funny that most of the people slamming others for thinking differently are Rifftrax fans.

    Whodathunkit?

It’s not about content, MLD, it’s about tone. We’re talking about a puppet show, here, not nuclear proliferation. It’s our site and we get to decide what is appropriate. And the tone of moral outrage people have been using is simply not appropriate.

As we said when we turned comments on, play nice. Please take a deep breath and think before you post. Angry words are not what we do here. Those unwilling play by the house rules are cordially invited to post elsewhere.

Sampo is a gentlemen, both all-powerful and wise.

I am looking very forward to seeing CT’s release, and I am Rifftrax next offering.

But, this thread proves that the uneasy feeling in my stomach when CT was announced was justified. Why do I get the feeling the people that are stirring up the trouble have never listened to a Rifftrax or are Star Wars and Transformers fans just angry that their beloved franchises have gotten the treatment?

I’ll just pipe up for the TF fan contingent and say they’re far from upset. In fact, for the last DECADE, the official TF convention has featured live riffings of, well, a lot of stuff TF fans would consider “sacred cows” in their advertainment, and there’s been no moral outrage. (Well, very little. One guy was all “why are they talking over this?!” last time, which is hilarious.) I’d know if there was; I’d be at ground zero. And pretty much everyone who enjoyed the RiffTraxed movie doesn’t take it that seriously and are just as ready to point out the glaring plot flaws. (Sunset occurs every fifteen minutes! Clearly, there are wurwilfs around.)

I’ll also just re-state the observation that apparently some feel we must take hardline black-and-white stances, choose a side and fight to the death over people making cracks about movies. Me, I think I missed that meeting. I’m not waving either company’s exclusive banner, especially since, well, Joel didn’t invent talking over movies or anything, rendering a lot of this really really silly(er). Space Ghost had that right.

  12. Cornjob says:

I don’t think there is much potential for a real rivalry between these two groups and their projects. Is a monthly (if it even winds up being that) Cinematic Titanic release really going to effect Rifftrax that much? I don’t see how. I don’t even see how it would effect any possible future Film Crew releases. If anything everyone will benefit as it will bring more overall attention to all of the projects. And as far as any personal rivalries or jealousies that may arise all I can say is that Joel created MST3K. It was his idea to “riff” on movies to begin with. Mike, Kevin and Bill all contributed immensely to the success of MST3K over the years, so they absolutely have the right to continue with similar projects like Rifftrax and Film Crew. And if this was some other group of new people coming in with a similar competing product I could see them feeling like their territory was being encroached upon, but if there is anyone out there who actually has more right to do something new in the MST vein it’s Joel, Trace, and Josh. I mean they started it all.

Anyway I hope this comment is just in fun and not meant to be serious, because if there is one person in all of these projects (Mallon’s revival as well) who has the least right to say anything about any it would have to be Bill, being the latest comer. He definitely has no right to feel ill towards the people working on CT. The people who’s coattails he road in on (even if he did make quite a name for himself and do exceptionally well during his time on the show).

You know, it’s amazing to me how incredibly seriously many of you are taking a pretend “battle” between former cast members of a show that starred puppets.

  15. Steve Vil says:

Oh, and here’s some added irony…

Most of the people who love Joel/Frank/Trace HATED Mary Jo. Yet since she’s part of CT suddenly those people don’t hate her anymore. It all seems very arbitrary to me.

  16. Just A Guy says:

I never had an issue with Mary Jo, I just didn’t care for the whole Pearl/Bobo/BrainGuy thing. I preferred skits that related to the movie instead of an ongoing story.

  17. trainwreck says:

I Agree with Just A Guy, the Pearl/bobo/brainguy was horrid, I shuddered in terror when they started doing these skits. I always thought man they took the fun loving “Mad Scientists”/ invention exchanges etc, and took a big dump on them. Still loved the hell out of the movies those
    last years though

  18. Droppo says:

I liked Bobo and Brain Guy. Pearl in over the top mode was very tough for me to enjoy. But, I liked her quieter moments like in Time Chasers. TV’s Frank and Dr. F. were the stuff of comedy legends.

And yes, the movies were always great.

My ideal line-up for CT or Rifftrax would be:
Joel, Mike, Trace, Kevin, Frank. To me, that was always the Mt. Rushmore of MST3K. I also love Bill. He could be the power bat off the bench.

What the heck was my point?

Good Guys, Droppo? You sell stereos?

Seriously, I like your lineup. Though Josh would be the pinch-runner, like Herb Washington for the ’70’s A’s teams.

And thank you, Sampo, for making us laugh at love…again.

  20. Cornjob says:

The entire division between the Joel and Mike “fans” is BS. Every person I know who is a big MST fan likes the whole series from KTMA to season 10. They might prefer the Joel years over the Mike years, or vice versa (usually depending on when they started watching), but they like them all either way. I personally prefer the older Joel era episodes and Frank is my personal hero, but I absolutely loved Mary Jo as well except possibly as the Frank replacement in season 7. Even then I didn’t hate her I just didn’t think she worked well in that situation. But when she took over, and especially when they settled in the castle, I liked her an awful lot. I think generalizing people into two camps of “Joel vs. Mike” is pretty ridiculous, and doesn’t at all represent the reality of the fan base. I think the show as a whole, films and host segments together, was more fun in the Joel and Frank years, and the host segments were the weakest part of the Mike and Pearl years, but that doesn’t mean I don’t see that there are absolute gems in those seasons that are as good as anything else that was ever on the show, and that the films were just as fun as ever, with possibly some of my favorite episodes (film-wise) in the Mike years.

Anyway I do think that any sense of rivalry between the so called Joel and Mike “camps”, or the new projects, is a complete over-exaggeration based on a very tiny, but highly vocal minority of super nerds who are never happy about anything, and always certain that their opinion should be law. That type of fan exists for everything and anything, and though they are often thought of as a representation of the whole they almost never are.

So I just spent the better part of an hour reading all these posts where people are getting bent out of shape over the fact that Rifftrax may or may not be well-wishing the Cinematic Titanic crew? And what’s my two cents on this whole debate? (Warning: Two-Cent Opinion is non-refundable, void where prohibited, check local listings for time and station)

Who cares one way or the other if Mr Corbett is poking fun or taking aim? The only thing I care about, with regards to all of the MST3K alumni, is that I get good quality entertainment, preferably on DVD.

And isn’t it about time that the whole “Joel vs Mike” debate be put to rest? Can’t people just accept the differences between the two hosts and the cast surrounding them over the years and get on with their lives?

By the way, any word on more Film Crew movies?

OUCH Reading all these posts certainly hurt a bit and a lot of people all bring up some many interesting points none of which I will bring up save for one. Ever since the cancellation of MST3K everyone has been waiting for the second coming of these riff masters. More or less the only thing one should take into consideration is not which guy you might like or who’s the better crow but that for the first time really ever all these talents are converging on the waste of Hollywood. Who cares whether the movies are old, new, popular, or obscure. Simply to put it this is a damn good time to be alive.

Rowsdower…. Is that a stupid name?

However, ZAP Rowsdower is INCREDIBLY stupid. Who the hell names their kid “Zap”? Aliens? Maybe he’s the love child of Scott Baio and Willy Ames.

See this comment left by Bill a few days back.

Looks like four Film Crew DVDs that were recently released were actually produced back in 2005. Since they weren’t able to pick up a distributer until quite recently, the sets were torn down and the project abandoned. So now any new DVDs would require a lot of pre-production costs and preparation.

    [begin speculation]

The rumor I’ve seen floating about online is that the Film Crew stuff was supposed to be an ongoing DVD series for Rhino, but Jim Mallon felt the Film Crew project was infringing on his intellectual property and so he strongarmed Rhino into dropping the distribution deal.

Another rumor has it that Joel approached Mallon about reviving MST3K, but they couldn’t come to agreeable terms, hence Joel creating Cinematic Titanic instead.

How much truth there is to any of this stuff, I dunno. It’s all secondhand so take it with a grain of salt.

    [end speculation]

  29. You know, for fans of a show whose theme song includes the lyrics, “Repeat to yourself ‘It’s just a show and I should really just relax,'” a lot of you are really slow on the uptake.

    Hey, “some guy”!

Thanks for the info. I even took the time to click the link you provided (the good one, not the bad one) and have to say that you summed it up pretty well all by yourself, although I did enjoy spending quite a few minutes reading what Mr Corbett had to say on other topics.

I certainly hope that having to build a set would not hold The Film Crew back from further offerings, especially since the set they had looked like it took about two days to throw together. As far as I’m concerned, they could just film the skits in someone’s basement and not worry so much about having a premise … kinda like they did with the Three Stooges DVD.

HOLY COW! *said in a drunken Harry Carey voice*. I can draw many parallels for CT v. RT (CART v. IRL) (AFL v. NFL) (Coke v. Pepsi).

From a business standpoint, RT and CT are competing for our hard earned filthy lucre and thus they are competitors. From an entertainment point of view, Bach or Beethoven. Both are composers but composing different styles. For those who aren’t bored with the B-movie clap trap, $10-$18 for a CT release is fine. For those who want to see how an uninspired Hollywood blockbuster can be humbled, $2-$4 for a mp3 to sync with a movie rental or heaven forbid a movie that may actually be owned is a bargain (or to purge the grade school nightmares or educational shorts, throw down a buck.)

    It’s a manner of taste.
