This week’s episode discussion (Girl in Lovers Lane) reminded me of something that makes the episode particularly funny to me: Big Stupid’s hooker-obsessed, hobo buddy is named Danny, which is, of course, my name! While I am neither hooker-obsessed nor (at least currently) a hobo, I get a huge kick out of hearing the riffing crew saying my name over and over again! Lines like “He just broke Danny!” and “Danny should really come with a tote” just kill me, and in ways that any MSTie not named Danny wouldn’t really get. It got me thinking, who of my fellow fans out there share names with MST characters (both in the universe of the show and the movies themselves)? What were your reactions to hearing your name on screen, or seeing your name assigned to a particular character? Or, have you ever watched the show with a friend or family member who share THEIR name with an MST character, and what were their reactions?
Well, what comes to mind is poor doomed Chris the dog in 801- REVENGE OF THE CREATURE. I felt a special kinship.
Have you had this experience?
Track of the Moon Beast for me I suppose, my name being Paul. Worse characters to share a name with I suppose, though I feel sorry for anyone out there with the name ‘Trumpy”…

A couple of my friends were slightly less lucky. Jed would occasionally be greeted with a Tom Servo’s Granny Clampett voiced “Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!” for a while, and Mike inherited “destroyer of worlds” and “Good one, Mike” especially if he injured himself during our backyard improvised explosive experiments, but that’s about it.
There was certainly a time though were every single character in any video game we were playing had to be named either Ken, Kenny or Torgo. In fact, we had a special text-edited version of Scorched Earth running on the school computer lab that had all default player names, weapons, and insults painstakingly swapped out with MST3K references.

I wouldn’t be able to stop adding “Dammit” before or after her name.

My brother has been calling her that for a quarter of a century. We don’t see him very often. I just say, “Yes, Dear”.

Worse characters, indeed. Paul in “Wahr-wilf” comes to mind. By the way, I enjoyed your letter to the Philippians!

The only instance I can think of where my name is in an episode is in Bride Of The Monster where they make several riffs based on the movie “Marty.” When you going to get marred, Marty?

Just that one schoolmate of Joel’s…

I always get a giggle out of “Hot image, Bob.”

The judge in X Marks the Spot addresses the recently deceased crappy driver as Joseph Doakes. Crow does one of my favorite monologues in the host segment that follows trying to answer the question, “am I qualified?”

I can’t think of any characters named Scott. But Winky from Rocky Jones was Scotty Beckett. And Lt. Lewis from Dead Talk Back was played by Scott Douglas.

Maybe my mind is going but I can’t think of many MST characters named John. Johnny doesn’t count. My initials are J.C. like the villain of Sidehackers. When Gooch (Cooch?) keeps calling out, “J.C.”, I sometimes want to answer, “What!?”.
I really don’t identify with the cinematic J.C. much though. Although I do my best to show people the light, I don’t ride a motorcycle. I don’t beat people up, or torture, or rape, or kill them either. I prefer to have have heartfelt conversations with people who are still alive. I very rarely litter, and I don’t wear clothes that make Stevie Wonder’s eyes hurt.

Lieutenant Commander Jason (from Space Mutiny)!

Well, for me, it’s not from a movie they riffed, it’s from the second human aboard the SOL: Mike! My name is Mike and, after being so used to “Joel and the bots,” it was an awesome adjustment to hear Tom and Crow constantly saying my name.

Danger! Death Ray is one of my favorite episodes, because Crow really likes saying my (first) name over and over again.

Well, my name is Paper Chase Guy, so I always get a kick out of watching “Warrior of the Lost World”.

No, actually Steve, so the plethora of Steves in “Night of the Blood Beast”–already mentioned by Steve–is a fun fav.

I have the dubious honor of sharing a name with the hapless protagonist of “I Accuse my Parents”. Fortunately, neither of my parents are alcoholics, and I have yet to get mixed up with the mob due to my own stupidity. On the other hand, I’ve never won an essay contest.

I’m neither amazing nor colossal, but I do share his name.

I can’t recall anyone named Evan in an MST3K movie, so the first thing that comes to mind is Hobgoblins (I think?), when Mike or Crow makes a comment like Pssh. Imagine getting beat up by a guy named Kevin and Tom replies Huh huh, yeah then mutters Hey, wait a minute… Very meta, but it made me laugh.
Your name is Fart Bargo? Wow. School must’ve been rough.

Well, I don’t think there’s ever been a character in an MST’d movie named Ray, so the closest thing for me is “Danger! Death Ray!” I may have to get that inscribed on my car.

The riff that made me do a complete double-take was a total throwaway from Touch of Satan: “Robert the cat…with Andrew the dog.”
Robert, as you can see, is my first name. Andrew is my middle name.

I share the same name with Mark English, the pompous newspaper reporter that manages to get everyone else to do his dirty work (having his girlfriend distract Vorelli while he paws the puppet, having the doughy investigator talk to the ex-hooker in Berlin) while he writes his expose’ on the shadowy world of ventriloquism .

My friend Zap Rowsdower is really touchy about that one movie. Gorgo, I think.

The only ones that stand out in my mind for my name at the moment are.
The grandson of the ill fated farmer in “Touch of satan”, Robert the dog.
Although I don’t go by Bob or Bobby.
The grandson of Al Sherman Kosher Game warden in The Creeping Terror.
The riff ,”Now Bobby give the nice man back his fish. I’m sorry he just started on the Ritalin.”, From Boggy Creek 2 had me laughing for a good amount of time since I am ADHD and it sounded like something my parents would have said to complete stranger after one my antics when I was younger and on Ritalin.

“Jimmy” from Teenage Strangler. I didn’t steal no bike neither! Plus, I’d like to strangle Mikey just a little but probably wouldn’t just like the other Jimmy. :D

Nope, nobody named Mibbitmaker anywhere on the show whatsoever.

It’s interesting how many people with popular names haven’t heard many mentions of them in MST3K movies. I have a fairly uncommon name (in this country anyway), but it’s been used twice. The first time was as the blonde Russian spy who did NOT fare well in Rocket Attack USA, and the second was as one of the girls in Boggy Creek II. Of the two, at least the blonde Russian spy had guts!

My real first name is “Bob”. Much to my dismay I share that name with that P.O.S. from “Zombie Nightmare” :pain:

The “s” in swh1939 is for Steve, my first name. So add me to the list for “Night of the Blood Beast”.

I don’t remember a character named Basil, but I do recall in 411- The Magic Sword the Basil Rathbones sketch. Only they pronounced it “BAY-zil” (long A) instead of the correct “BAA-zil” (short A). Everyone always gets our name wrong, it seems.

Natasha Badanov. That’s how she signed the register at the Frosbite Falls Fritz hotel. In Minnesota that means you are common-law married.

@#86 – I’d never heard of that group before, so I looked it up. I didn’t find any Bad Tanyas, but I did find the Be Good Tanyas out of Vancouver. Maybe that’s it. It’s cool to find something like that, so thanks for the info. As for Natasha, my parents actually considered naming me that at one time, but decided against it because it sounded “evil”. Bullwinkle was on the air at the time, so maybe that contributed to it. :)

One of the things that grabbed my attention was hearing my name (Joel) repeated often. The thing that clinched the deal with me was the credit for the theme song: Joel & the Joels.
