Of the 26 episodes left, 9 are “Joel” episodes and 17 are “Mike” episodes.
Even if SF can get the rights to all of Joel’s episodes (which will be tough), we should start seeing more of the “3 Mike/1 Joel” sets in the near future to account for the imbalance. The question is, at what point?
You are correct, sir! Poopie! was part of the Manos DVD release by Rhino, as well as the Manos disc in The Essentials. And, yes, that edited “Poopie II” was a disappointment. I have the VHS version copied to disc and digital, and was delighted when I got the DVD that had Poopie II on it .. until I watched it and knew it was edited down. I would need to pull them out to check the times, but it was only around 15 minutes that was edited off, about half, I’m thinking.
If they were to start padding by releasing the “special features” as discs (Shorts 3, Play MSTie For Me, etc) they could do 8 with Joel/Mike/Mike/Special and one with Joel/Mike/Special/Special. Assuming, of course, they get the rights.
I’d like to see all the episodes released sooner rather than later, but I’d like to see the special releases that were only on VHS to make it back into circulation. If that meant padding, so they would be able to do it, I’ll try to live long enough to get then all.
I don`t want any of those specials. Just the episodes.

Ooops, call me Captian Vacuous – didn’t realize there was a page of comments before this, finishing off Season 5 already mentioned. Say, did you guys hear – that Columbus guy may have stumbled upon a new continent…
There may be 9 Joel ones left, but 3 are going to be near impossible (technically 4 since one should’ve been destroyed). Those are the Toho and Susan Hart owned ones. Toho being the more likely of the two it seems. next couple of releases are going to be interesting.

Which brings me to the point at hand, the remaining unreleased MST HOUR WRAPS.
I read that Shout! is going to offer downloads of the Wraps for Viking Women and Colossal Beast, since they forgot to include them on the new dvd release.
I wonder what the fate of Space Travelers Wraps is. It was also left off of it’s recent dvd release.
So what’s left:
-Cave Dwellers (could be on potential Vol. 2 reissue?)
-Pod People (could also be on potential Vol. 2 reissue?)
-The Amazing Colossal Man (one would hope it would be included on an eventual dvd release)
-It Conquered The World (also hopefully included on eventual dvd release)
-The Unearthly (could be on potential Vol. 3 reissue?)
-Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (maybe on a reissue?)
-Space Travelers (whoops!)
-Giant Gila Monster (they must have cranked this replacement disc out fast, because no Wraps to be seen…)
-Teenagers From Outer Space (vol. 6 reissue?)
-Hercules Unchained (vol. 7 reissiue?)
-Hercules Against The Moon Men (vol. 7 reissue?)
-Attack Of The Eye Creatures (hopefully on eventual dvd release)

So that makes 14 unreleased MST Hour Wraps. 16 if you count Viking Women and Colossal Beast. 10 of those are from when Rhino didn’t include them on their dvds (vhs in Colossal Man’s case). 3 are from episodes that are still unreleased on dvd. And 1 (or 3, if you count 317 and 319) was Shout! not including them.
Shout! could put out a bonus disc of the remaining 16. And Ballyhoo could make a documentary about the MST Hour show. Or, they may have other plans. Either way, Shout! is doing awesome work.

I totally agree that we should be grateful for every set that Shout releases. I was absolutely devastated when The Simpsons announced they would be no longer releasing DVD sets …after collecting them for nearly 10 years. And I can only imagine that Shout has to go through a great deal more grief to release the MST sets. And with what movies are left I’m sure the coming years are going to be a struggle for them. But from the mini poster art to the special features…every set is a treasure and I am eternally grateful for them for honoring a show that is so dear to my heart
What moment is that? Haven’t watched the episode in years, though it’s always been a favorite.

The MST3k vol 10 Godzilla Mistake. Joel, Trace, and Frank did a bit on vol 10.2 where they asked people to destroy the DVD because they never had the rights to print them.
Yes! Deathstalker! I can finally throw away my muddy DVD-R of that episode. “Potatoes are what we eat!”
I don’t know what it could be, but that episode does have the most subtle “naughty riff” in all of MST3K. The undead warriors are around the campfire eating, something, one of them stands up to talk to Deathstalker. He’s got this slime, white gooey slime, on beard and Servo says, “Guess what I’ve been doing!”

Being from Another Planet is an old favorite of mine, it’s very underrated.
Deathstalker is great too (“go ahead, enjoy my area”).
Teenage Caveman has the Catching Trouble short, which is fantastic (“shhhh, I hear something living.”)
and hey, 12 to the Moon! I know I’ve seen it, but I don’t recall much…
Shout! keeps doing amazing work, keep up the good job over there!

The list keeps growing smaller and smaller, and the releases more predictable. Shout Factory continues to impress; I couldn’t be happier!
This is great news! As others have said, the Deathstalker episode alone is worth it… and the other episodes aren’t exactly chopped liver, either.
My favorite riff from “12 to the Moon” comes as someone is examining footprints leading out of a cave:
“Messiah tracks… two, three days old.”
Great set, not a huge fan of Teenage Caveman (maybe I need to watch it again, been more than a few years) but the rest are some of my faves, especially Being From Another Planet (way underratted ep in my opinion), the always smug Deathstalker and 12 to the Moon is an instant win for me as I love space based films.
I know that riff! It’s one of my all-time favorites and my friends and I quote it regularly!

Since the topic of MST Hour wraps has been brought up, I would again like to point out that the release of wraps for Pod People should also include a little bit of footage from the film (with riffs) that was included in the MST Hour airings but was not included in the regular MST3K airing of that episode.
There was footing in an MST hour episode NOT in the regular episode? IS Pod People the only episode? And who compared them?
Apart from some “meh”-sayers — it’s so great to read all of your comments here at mst3kinfo. I am 100% behind the Kickstarter, Joel’s continuation of the series, S!F’s acquisition of the BB rights, &c. &c. — BUT I find myself a tad depressed at the joyous comment streams at KS which often display a lack of love for disk collecting.
I was a tape-trade-recipient-based fan starting at about season 3 (shout out to my younger-brother-slash-supplier!), but I’ve been one of the obsessive disk-collectors since the single-shot Rhino CDs. Like many of you (I presume), I’ve been more invested in the disks, rights issues, Cheesyflix alternate disk jackets, and so on than I was in the cable broadcasts — which makes sense; I got my first disk in May 2002, so the “no hope of more eps/need to obsessively OWN the media” phase of my fandom far outstrips the on-air phase. I am even — confession time! — watching the shows in disk release order, and loving them that way, reordering them into season-order only after I’ve seen them. Weird, I know!
I guess what I’m saying in my wordy way is this: I’ve certainly contributed to the KS, and I am 100% behind the new cast (and 1,000% behind future corporate support that gets us/S!F another 10 YEARS of the show). But I’m not going to pay for ephemeral “streams” or “downloadable” file versions — at least, I won’t as long as I have a disk option. GOOD ON S!F for continuing to craft these excellent disk sets. I hope the bean counters — both at S!F and also at potential broadcast partners — realize that some of us are committed to paying an additional $10-$15/episode when they show up in DVD or Blu-Ray sets in 2017. Or the equivalent — I’m not 100% against streaming. I just need to OWN my media, no matter how 2005 that attitude might be.

Well, I am all for streaming as well, and I have mostly stopped buying DVDs Blu-rays, but I started about 2.5 years ago picking up the disks, and have rapidly gotten most of the collections (I am only missing the Gozilla episode in set 10 and the 3 episodes in set 9 that aren’t available as an individual disk.)
But honestly it isn’t so much about the hard media, as it is about the extras. I think SHOUT and Ballyhoo have been doing a stellar job for the most part with the extras, though I wish they would put together a short history on EVERY movie. The Turkey Day set with all the bumpers. The stuff like that that I wouldn’t own if I just watched the episode on Youtube.
So – I’m with you @thomarrifc on getting the sets – as long as they keep putting in the extras with them!
I was one of those lucky enough to get both vols. 9 and 10 before they went out of print (the same time at Best Buy). Both prized posessions now. I must say I have been thrilled with all of Shouts releases (so much better than Rhino). Deathstalker and Being from another Planet are two favorites I’ve been waiting for. Have my fingers crossed for the rest of season 4.
Keep in mind that the downloadables will be DRM-free. You can transfer them to DVD, if you really want a physical disc to supplement a collection.
I actually prefer the digital version and have all the MST3K on a local streamer. But I also have all the episode releases on disc (and VHS), so I understand and appreciate the desire to have discs of the episodes.
@skierpete — I missed the same ones you did (Vol. 9 and the original version of Vol. 10) — back then I was a few sets behind in my purchases! — but I’ll tell you: THAT’S when my needle crosses over into the Cheepnis zone. (Not that I won’t re-buy a disk if it gets an official Shout! release . . . I will. Hasn’t happened for the five disks I’ve cheepnised out on so far, though, comprising the three unavailable Vol. 9s and the two Godzillas.)
@Basil — You’re right, you’re right. I shouldn’t be so knee-jerk about downloads/streams; not all streaming is the same. I’m just skeptical of streaming solutions that are really about content owners retaining all the rights — the best expression of that for me is still the opening paragraphs of DVD Savant’s 2012 wish-list letter — of the more than 1,000 disks I’ve collected in 15+ years, the vast majority of them are not currently available on one of the streaming or download services, free or for payment — and certainly not commercial-free. And not with the extras, obviously.
But as Savant says in his piece, I do see a day when we don’t have to have physical disks. I need to listen to you, @Basil — I should be celebrating where DRM-free streams/downloads are being promoted. (I also really like VHX for some reason. They seem to get it. And they don’t rhyme with SchmultraViolet or SchmiTunes . . . .)

I missed the fact that Joel and Co. addressed my exact complaints over at the KS — in that we can now directly pre-order the full set of whatever “Season 11” eps get made, on disk, from Shout!, along with exclusive filmed extras, for $85 on DVD or $100 on Blu-Ray — i.e. the $200 Experiment 200 reward level without the extra stuff. $85 is already cheaper than what I pay for 6 movies in the current S!F sets, and presuming we get to a 9-episode season (or even 12) it’s a bargain.
So my $36 is gonna go north of a hundred, now — pushing the button . . . ! 8^)
But Shout! only needs the rights to release the episodes featuring the two Godzilla films. They don`t need any other rights for use. And the films are no doubt cut down to fit the format of the show. The people who want the films uncut & on Blu won`t bother with the MST3k sets. And the MST3k fans are a small niche in the scheme of things. Still possible and I have faith in Shout! to work it out.
Holy cow the new set is $10 more this time out. Corman must have wanted a pretty penny.
Where did you see the price of Volume 35? I’ve seen it on Amazon, but at the same list (that is, non-discounted) price as Volume 34.
@thomariffic #82 Never feel you must apologize for the need to “own the media,” my friend . . . for some of us, it’s just in the DNA, and for those of us who were there in the beginning, MST3K was born in the era of circulating tapes and, eventually, disc sets.
As you say, that doesn’t mean we have to turn our nose up at streaming video . . . it just never hurts to assure the folks at Shout! Factory that there’s still a market for the physical DVD. I can well understand those people who for reasons of limited storage room or whatever prefer to own downloads, but I get a lot of aesthetic pleasure out of my row-after-row of box sets. Different people are wired differently, and some of us don’t want to have to constantly readjust to the new ways of acquiring content, which seem to change every couple of years.
XXXV is another great set, but I would say that about ANY new MST3K offering, since I love the show in general. It amazes me that the good folks at Shout! Factory have continued to come up with another quartet of classic shows three times a year, constantly knocking down barriers that so many of us feared couldn’t be knocked down. No matter how many of the final 26 they can acquire, they deserve our appreciation for preserving and presenting so much of this great show in collectible form.

Because I am starting to believe that I am the only person who cares: WHERE IN THE HECK IS “FIRE MAIDENS OF OUTER SPACE”?! It’s all well, and good, watching the digital archive on YouTube, but it would be great to have a proper release. I am a huge fan of this episode, and believe it to be one of the top 5 episodes I have ever seen; and I have seen them all! What other episode has such a seamless subplot, woven into the host segments? The range of riffs is almost unrivaled by any other episode. And the movie itself is repellent, without being mind-alteringly bad. It’s just perfect! WHERE IS IT?!
Can’t believe I missed this. Worth getting just for Deathstalker.
