For anyone who was wondering a while back why they have a few PD titles that are not yet released, this set should probably give some indication why: the PD movies are really convenient for filling out sets. It’s better to pay the licenses for two or three movies to get that business out of the way and then add in a PD movie or two to make it a complete four episodes. If they released all of their PD movies at once they wouldn’t have that option.
If I had to guess, I’d say that licensing is starting to get REALLY difficult. There’s only a handful of Joel episodes left that aren’t season 3, and I don’t think any of those are PD. I think the majority of the PD movies still to be released are in Season 6. Most of the episodes still to come out are either Arkoff, Susan Hart or one of Hollywood’s biggest companies. I think anyway, I’m not an expert on this whole business of rights. Point is, if there was ever a time to be grateful that we’re still getting new sets, now’s the time.

I’m so glad that I can finally toss my DVD-R of Teenage Crime-Wave. I love that episode. It’s one of those movies people might dismiss for being boring, but the riffing is energetic and fun.

All joking aside, I’ve seen Donna Michelle nude and it is oh so nice. (Kids – don’t Google without your parents’ permission!)

At the risk of using hyperbole unsupervised this early in the morning, I’m confident in saying this is the best set to be released in a long time. The others are certainly great, and have their merit, but for overall entertainment value, this one is phenomenal.
Watching Dick Contino sing the left side of the menu, discovering “Earth vs. Soup,” hearing about how Terri is dirt and catching all the Prince references whenever that one henchman is on the screen, all in the same set? Stick a fork in me, because I’m done (but I’ll definitely be on the lookout for extras).

Teenage Crimewave. Is that the one where the kid on the date gets really lucky
getting abducted by the women thrill seekers (doesn’t even have to go to confession after).

Reply to #57 – You’re thinking of The Violent Years.
This is definitely a good set. Daddy-O and Agent for HARM are my two faves in this one. I hope we do get some Dick Contino extras. I have an album of his from around the same time as this movie (maybe a little earlier). He doesn’t sing but he’s playing French songs on his accordion. It’s awesome b/c I love French accordion songs (oh it’s true!) and it’s Daddy-O playing them.

Wow, excellent set! Earth Vs. The Spider is such a great episode and has it all. Giant animal/monster, middle aged high schoolers and incredibly lame, hipster supporting characters (seriously, whoever cast Joe was either a moron or just weanted to call it a day whenever that audition happened, as Crow said “Come on you’re 45!” and he does indeed bear an eerily uncanny resemblence to Dr. Smith in some shots), smug and oh-so-bland science teacher/professor type hero-guy and an incompetent police force. Rest of the episodes are great too of course, two more hipster/greaser teen flicks with Daddy-O and Teenage Crime Wave and Agent for H.A.R.M. is an underratted gem. “…and there’s the smarm.” I believe Shout can get the rest of the AIP movies if they try hard enough, I have faith. Maybe a nice documentary covering James Nicholson would sweeten the deal for Hart? Otherwise it’s just foolish to stubbornly sit on those movies, do they even get played on any of the occasional TMC/AMC monster blocks or anywhere?

DADDY-O!!! Finally!! Thank You SHOUT! I agree with several posters above – this is the best set in a long time – maybe ever! Daddy-O is one of my top 5 favorites MST3K eps of all time. Earth vs The Spider is a classic episode, and a perfect one to show to someone who’s never seen the show. Teenage Crimewave is one of the better Mike Season 5’s, and Agent for H.A.R.M. is downright hilarious.
What a wonderful set! I can hardly wait to take a day off work and watch it from start to finish!

I hurt myself on my desk from excitement over this set. Thank you as always SHOUT! for the miracles you pull off, I’m already looking forward to pre-ordering this brilliant summer set.

‘Teenage Crimewave’ is the best movie riffing segments here, while ‘Agent for Harm’ has the best host segments. Don’t care for the riffing of Daddy-O, but ‘Earth vs. Spider’ is riffed funny, and Fred Ziffel is in it.

It’s the unlikely and the extremely unlikely events like these upcoming titles that add yet more evidence to the argument that we are inside the matrix.
You can feel it.
All around you.

Great! The only one i’ve seen is Agent for Harm, so I’m looking forward to seeing the others. Especially Daddy-O and Teen-Age Crime Wave. To D. Griffith: more short films please!

Agree with everyone else that this is a great set. I haven’t bought most sets because it seems like there is always one good episode and three meh ones in it. This one I will have to buy though, 3 out of 4 good episodes good enough for me. Not a big sci-fi era fan but Teenage Crimewave was a great Mike episode and the two Joel season 3 eps are classics.

Really looking forward to Daddy-O and Earth Vs. The Spider, classic episodes from the best days of the show. It was so much fun tuning in every week back then and these will bring back fond memories. The shorts on those episodes are also terrific stuff. Shout! Factory continues to amaze and please MSTies everywhere. Hike your pants up if you’re excited for this set!

Mr B(ob),
We’re always on the same page. Love me Season 3, possibly most of all. I just watched 301 Cave Dwellers and it immediately made me want to have a Season 3 Marathon. Daddy-O and 3 empty disks would be a great set to me. Having it AND Earth vs the Spider is just too much!
Plus Agent for H.A.R.M. is a personal one for me because I love it, but my tape is very poor quality now.
And I can watch Teenage Crimewave when I start burning through too many Joel episodes to shake things up.
THANK YOU SHOUT!

Ive always loved Daddy-O and the short is one of my favorites ; Earth vs the Spider is fun. Im not into Teenage Crimewave all that much but Im glad its coming, same for Agent from Harm.. its going to be a fun set.. I bet we will get an MST vs Corman box set for an upcoming volume.. I agree with the posts Ive seen

So now, with this announcement shaking up what we had believed to once be the “extremely unlikely” or “when hell freezes over” short list of episodes, could someone who is in the know about how the studios and rights holders all line up with the 34 (only 34!!!) as-yet-unreleased episodes make a revised list of predictions?

The only unreleased short after this set hits will be Snow Thrills from 311. All the others have either been released with their episodes or in the various shorts compilations on some of the Rhino collections.

The H-Man,
Snow Thrills was included as an extra on Volume XXIV, along with A Date With Your Family.

Daddy-O! Dick Contino! Rock Candy Baby! Finally I can see a not crappy youtube print!
I’m reading James Ellroy’s second Dick Contino story as we speak, and was checking for this announcement while taking a break from reading this.
Ellroy’s story ‘Dick Contino’s Blues’ is a very funny re-imaging of Contino’s experience filming Daddy-O. Both Ellroy and Contino have a great sense of humor about the film and Contino is very interesting character and a amazing accordion player who still tours. I hope Shout will be interviewing him for the DVD, maybe they can get Ellroy to MC.
As to the right of other episodes… I know a lot about how Toho works. I know they had a hierarchy for the longest time that just plain hated the Godzilla franchise and in the past few years that’s changed and the studio is now headed by guys who are both Godzilla fans and appreciate the property as fan boys. I have a gut feeling they would respond well to a collaboration with Shout and okay-ing Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster. It would also be a amazing opportunity for Shout to makes a special feature interview Harou Nakajima, the Andy Serkis of the 1950-60’s who originated all the best Toho monsters including Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Baragon and Gaira.
Agent for H.A.R.M. is also a long awaited childhood favorite. Dig that cardigan.

Since right before the Volume 32 announcement in November, there are now 10 episodes that were once deemed to be among the most unlikely to be released that are now either in our grasp (Space Travelers), confirmed (Daddy-O, Earth vs the Spider, Teenage Crimewave), or very likely (12 to the Moon and the other five Arkoff titles).
Shout Factory…thank you.

Finally, my favorite episode (after the Master Ninjas), Daddy-O. I’ve waited O so long for this. Very, very excited and happy! Earth Vs. The Spider is pure gold, Teenage Crimewave is a personal favorite, and Agent For H.A.R.M. rounds out the set. Shout!, you rule. I’d like to second those who’ve subtly reminded Shout! to include the MST Hour Wraps for Daddy-O and Earth Vs. They can’t be missing, because they’re on youtube, so at the very least, those crappy YT versions are available.
Nothing is untouchable. All of these movies were licensed and shown on tv before, so it’s merely a matter of time and money until they are all released. Just remember, if say Godzilla or Colossal was to be included on this set, there would always be some misguided naysayer claiming the true untouchable is Daddy-O. As consumers, we really HAVE NO IDEA. All we can do is speculate. But Shout! has proven time and time again that they have the power to loosen these movies.
So, we should really just relax, and buy this set, and love and enjoy it. “I’m not too thrilled with this set. I want this episode, and this episode, and this episode…” That’s too bad; that’s your loss. These are truly brilliant episodes that define what MST is. (Except for H.A.R.M., that one’s a slog. See, I’m just as bad as everyone else. But I will be buying it, watching it, and appreciating it even if it is one of my least favorite episodes. And I’d be doing the same even if the other 3 were ones I disliked. Because it’s MST, and true fans need complete collections! Even if an episode “stinks” in your opinion, it’s essential to absorb it, or you miss out on callbacks, mythos, etc. This is why I’m blown away when hardcore fans say they haven’t seen every episode. Stop what you’re doing, and go watch EVERY episode! Come on, you’re missing out! Turn off what ever it is you’re watching and watch some unfamiliar MST! Thank you, won’t you?)
Oh, and thank you Shout! Did I say that already? :)

Finally! Agent for H.A.R.M. is one of my top picks, and i’ll spaz chop anyone who disagrees :-P . Shout, you’re about to gift wrap a beautiful package. Now, if you’ll excuse me, i need to get to the karate rink.

I’m greatly looking forward to this set. Not only will I get to see “Daddy-O” and “Teenage Crime Wave” but I’ll get to reacquaint myself with “Earth vs. the Spider” and “Agent for H.A.R.M.” I think I only saw the latter once during the late Sci-Fi era reruns.

@73 The H-Man, sorry my post was unclear. I didn’t mean a list of the shorts, I meant the full episodes that were on the opposite-of-long list that Travis Hosey had posted at one point, where he categorized them as “when hell freezes over,” and others as “possible” and “likely.” I thought the announcement of these new episodes for XXXIII meant that those categories had changed, that some that were previously “possible” were now “likely,” etc. I just meant can someone who knows about the rights-holders post a revised “likely”-“possible”-“never(?)” list? Travis H? Pretty please? :-)

DADDY-O!!!!! Holy cow that one came out of nowhere. It’s one of my favorite episodes, but also one I expected to possibly never see on DVD. I thought that getting all those Sandy Frank eps was a dream come true, but now it really does seem like anything is possible, and we might actually see the day where the entire series has been released on DVD.

This is great news and a great selection! Looking forward to it.
As we get closer to completing the series (!) there’s an ironic warning: the Simpsons producers have announced that they’re not going to be releasing DVDs anymore, as the “DVD market is dying”! Maybe MST3K fans are the exception that really supports DVD releases, but just as we’re getting down to the final episodes, the format situation may change again. Hopefully this just means that we’ll have as many download or streaming options in the future?

That’s because there’s 26 freakin’ seasons of The Simpsons. I stopped watching after season five. Can’t imagine watching the same show for 26 years. Any good TV show shouldn’t go any longer than 10 seasons and most of the really good shows go between 5 and 7. I think Shout knows what kind of numbers they can get in terms of sales from the rabid MSTie fanbase so I imagine they gear their production accordingly to ensure there isn’t too much overrun making DVD sales still feasible. Just my theory on that.
Anyway, pleased as punch about this set as Shout continues to win my love and adoration. Really hope Human Duplicators comes up in the near future so I can see a better-than-Youtube copy of it.
