#48 The music in the Gumby short is what’s causing the problem. I’m guessing it’s one of those “Puma Man” situations where they can’t track down who owns the rights.

There’s always one sure fire way to find out who has the rights: Release it on DVD and whoever owns them will come crawling out of the woodwork. Note that I never said it was a good suggestion.

  7. I’ve already made this prediction in another thread, so here it is again:

    My Prediction:

    Vol. XXIX (29) will have:

    305-Stranded in Space
418-Attack of the the Eye Creatures
    703-The Incredible Melting Man
    804-The Thing that Couldn’t Die

You got 2 Joels/2 Mikes, continues down the path of their recent Season 8 releases, also finally sees Incredible Melting Man released (which we know Shout! has the rights to now, as they released the movie on Blu Ray last month. Eye Creatures is a personal fave and Stranded in Space. . . .well, it’s gotta happen sometime… just looking for a nice mix of episodes (they can’t all be favorites) with some of the more likely candidates for soon-to-be-released.

@ 54 Duane Zykov – Ah, I see, thanks! It’s funny how the (seemingly) littlest things can hold up releases, but hey, things are what they are.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Shout! manages to make it happen at some point, though.

Yes, the music in the Gumby short is holding up The Screaming Skull. As for Track of the Moon Beast, many sources have confirmed that the film is in the public domain, which does seem surprising since the film was made in the 70s.

Here is the story of American International Pictures – the VERY brief version: Founded in the early 50s by James H. Nicholson (Susan Hart’s father) and Samuel Arkoff. Went out of business in the late 70s. Film library sold to Filmways. Filmways goes out of business. AIP library sold to Orion Pictures. Orion Pictures goes out of business. At this point, the AIP film library was sold to a number of people and companies including Susan Hart, Roger Corman, Samuel Arkoff’s Estate, Lionsgate Films, and others. That’s why the AIP films currently have so many different owners, and so far (as far as we know), none of them have given in…….yet…..

I’ve got a few suggestions for sets

A space or space monster themed set with:
    Fire Maidens
    Human Duplicators
    12 to the Moon
    Incredible Melting Man

    A teen crime set with:
    Teenage Crime Wave
    Girls Town
    Horror of Party Beach
    Squirm

And finally an “I’m undercover” set with:
    Daddy-O
    San Francisco International Airport
    Riding With Death
    Agent for HARM

The Amazing Colossal Man, 309, might have been my first experiment so then follow it up with the War of the Colossal Beast, 319, and then to get Mike in there Puma Man, 903, was so weird as is The Screaming Skull, 912. But I need the Viking Women too and Girls Town and Agent from Harm.

  17. Brian Hayes says:

    614 – San Francisco International
    520 – Radar Secret Service
    401 – Space Travelers

And how about either a Satellite of Love model to go With Crow, Tom and Gypsy? Or Cambot? OR start venturing into figures of Joel, Mike, Dr. Forester, TV’s Frank, Pearl Forrester, Brain Guy, Professor Bobo and The Observer (and Torgo too). Recreated mini-sets of Deep 13 or the main stage for Joel/Mike and bots.

With episodes still to hit, they could make a little more off the sells and the fans would get some more cool MST#K related figures.

Diabolik is owned by Paramount, as is The Space Children and The Deadly Bees. Since Shout! has worked out arrangements with four other major studios, I feel confident that we will eventually get the three Paramount titles.

I’d pick four episodes which have in common some sort of departure from the usual movie riffing routine:

412 – Hercules and the Captive Women (Gypsy in the theater)
416 – Fire Maidens of Outer Space (Timmy in the theater)
913 – Quest of the Delta Knights (Pearl in the theater)
1013 – Diabolik (The SOL crashes)

  27. My Mike-centric set would be:

519 – Outlaw: Say Cabbot a million times more times, I dare you.
703 – Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell: Potatoes are what I eat! with some steak, too.
814 – Riding with Death: Some turkeys tried once to rob me, so I can sympathize with Guy Patent Papers.
1007 – Track of the Moon Beast: Oh, corn, peppers, onions, motor oil, vacuum cleaner waste…

    519-Outlaw

why is the music from the gumby holding up the release of the screaming skull. also who is the rights holder of puma man anyway. they can always try to have it declare an orphan work (since they tried to find the rights holders and have not found them).

    It’s a fantasy movie smug-off!

Outlaw is a Top 5 for me. I’ve even started reading the Gor books (strange, even by fantasy standards–there’s a bit of a BDSM undertone to them, and from what I understand, it becomes more of an overtone the further into the series you get).

Attack of the the Eye Creatures and The Undead are also favorites. Mmm…Allison Hayes…

Also, I’ve wondered why they don’t put the uncut movies on as bonus features (ala Rhino box set 1). Might make the rights holders more amenable to work with. Of course, I know nothing about things like that, so it might just be more of a headache. But there are a handful of MSTied movies I’ll actually sit through (on purpose!) sans riffing. It’s interesting to see what they cut and appreciate just how bad some of these movies are (or not as bad as you thought, as the case may be).
