The DVD Verdict review has this very good explanation of the appeal of season 1 eps: “[T]hey can’t be beat as pure expressions of the show’s DIY charm.”
Absolutely. It’s apparently received wisdom that more riffs per minute of film equals better comedy, and there are indeed many examples of this principle in action in latter MST3K eps. HOWEVER, no “real” season of MST3K (which excludes KTMA) is as laid-back, low-key, and generally charming as season 1.
Plus, it doesn’t hurt that there’s so much Commando Cody. I LIKE Commando Cody. The same essential thing happens EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. That’s brilliant.

?????? at #48: Whooo ARrre YooOOOU?!!
Uh, “GizMODO Institute?” NO.
I don’t know if I’ll get this or not as I have all these episodes; dare I get it just for the Trace interview alone? That’s an expensive interview. And why does (I think it’s the Bruce Westbrook article) the writer say he’s “name-dropping”? It’s an interview about what he’s done since MST3K. What’s he supposed to say? “I did a coupla things on a coupla shows”. End of story – goodnight folks!
Personally, I like the host segments from the Joel era the best (the mid- to later ones). The whole story arc from the Psy-Fie years were really hard to sit through.

Got mine today and just suffered through “The Slime People” for the first time in ages. Mother of God, what a patience-tester. Les Tremayne’s embarrassing role as a yippity-yip goathusband is actually the closest the whole thing has to a bright point.
(I AM surprised they got away with the line, “Look! It’s the Three Spooges!” Wow.)
Couple of things I wonder if anyone else is experiencing with “Slime People”: First, is the interview with Judee Morton (“Bonnie”) supposed to just cut off like that? That’s weird for a series that has so much “Ballyhoo” material.
Second, the slimcase cover has a big cut in the plastic. It’s not a big deal–just the plastic, not the insert–just curious if it’s a repeat offense.

I read this piece of writing fully regarding the resemblance
of most recent and preceding technologies, it’s remarkable article.

Hmm, the extras seem to point to Susan Hart, as well as The Space Children aka Paramount. HMMMM. Shout has dropped hints like this before, back with Sandy Frank. Fingers crossed!

Asking questions are truly good thing if you are not understanding anything fully, however this paragraph offers nice understanding yet.
