When it comes to MST3K and anime conventions, I consider it normal to a nod to that show at these cons. Among some examples of what I mean:
-From 1997 to 2003, there was actually a Friday night event at Otakon called MAT3K, which features Joel and the ‘Bots riffing bad anime (their take on Attack of the Supermonsters was a pure classic).
-I’ve seen someone bring along a replica of Tom Servo, with him dressed up as different characters (i.e. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist).
-At Otakon 2010, I actually saw (and took a picture of) a cosplayer dressed up as Torgo from Manos: The Hands of Fate.
