Re: “Count me in among those surprised that “Making of” got cleared. I don’t know how it works with specials, but I would have thought merely the overt use of “Riding with Death” would have required some extra-special hoop-jumping.”
Maybe it’s a hint that Shout cleared Riding With Death and we’ll see it on a future volume.
I’m hoping the DVD Menu thing is a “how they’re made” sort of deal, and not a compilation special. If so, that was a waste of disc space when they could have done something groundbreaking like outtakes from season 10.

@39, even if they’re young MSTies, I think they know enough about pop culture to know who Penn Jilette is.

#52 Yeah but alot of them don’t know how annoying he was (And still is) during the early years of Mst3k.

This is awesome. Time of the Apes right in time for Christmas! THANK YOU SHOUT!! (Daddy-O next please?)
Time of the Apes – 5 stars
Might Jack – an oddly unengaging show I can watch over and over again and never remember, except for them doing the pot smoking sounds when the guy is smoking and Tom says “why is my internal voice different from my external voice? Inside I’m tan and handsome and outside I’m the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.” Classic. And a Christmas tie-in!
Violent Years – okay season 6 ep
Brute Man – one of the more enjoyable season 7s.
I’ll take sets like this every time!
How can Johnny not care?

An example of the irritating level of a young Penn Jilette and a dope jam to boot:

Annoying, not annoying, I still want This Is MST3K released because, like many of you, it was my first taste into the behind the scenes world of Best Brains. I remember seeing it when it first aired.
Now, since Shout! managed to clear the Making Of MST3K, maybe something similar could happen with Comedy Central perhaps?
What I really want to see is a complete collection of promos and bumpers made for each episode. They made at least 3 per episode, and the lack of inclusion of the commercial bits feels like something is missing. Back when it was first run on Comedy Central, we’d see these commercial bits all the time, telling us to tune in for the new episode each week. The promos were usually themed around the week’s movie, or sometimes would be an extension of a host segment from the episode. They really are like little missing pieces from each episode. I have a few of them, but would certainly like them all. They’re hilarious!

Oh god, Time Of The Apes was an early fave, great to see it get an official release. Mighty Jack still makes my head hurt. Brute Man!!! “Shopkeeper delighted!” and….The Violent Years, a movie I could watch non-mstied and still laugh my fat butt off at. Kind of an early John Waters movie in the vein of Female Trouble. Too funny. Great set!!

Thanks. Sadly I don’t own a computer so downloading is currently not an option. I’ve seen DVDs for sale but I’m happy to wait for Shout to deliver at the moment, have all the official DVDs, luckily I got in to the show in 2002. Being in to music and films means spreading a little money very thinly !! Also I haven’t gone near Rifftrax or Titanic, although I got the Film Crew DVDs cheap.

@55 – RunDMC meets Toni Basil…They had rather run out of overexposed white songs to justify their hip-hop raps with. After the Monkees, there was nowhere to go but down. :(
(And the young magician-era Penn Jillette wasn’t annoying…The current non-magician “Bullsh*t!” era Penn Jillette As Bill Maher-Wannabe Rational/Atheist Avenger At Large, however, deserves to fall down some very large street manholes.)

And looks now like Shout’s got their sets down to a 2+2 formula, with two pairs of movies on a theme. (Like “Devils & Monsters” in XIX.)
This time, it’s “Sandy Frank & Violence”…A combination that has occurred to us many, many times.

Oh dear God, I hope the inclusion of that making-of special means that the elusive Robert Denby will be making its way (officially) to my DVD player in the not too distant future. How I LOVE that episode.
OP-TICAL ILL-OOO-ZUHN-UH!!!

Woo Hoo! And I just got Vol. XXI too. Compound that with the up coming Cinematic Titanic DVD in a couple months, and it should be a good season. :dog:

Another Ed Wood movie! Hooray!
I’ve gotten into heated arguments with people about Mr. Wood. They say he’s horrible, I say he’s awesome. End of story.
