“Bonus features aren’t as impressive?” Only 2 1/2 stars for the video quality? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What garbage. I don’t know why Shout! Factory even bothers? They’re certainly not getting my money! :-P

Why should I listen to reviews because they’re not going to sway me from buying every box set of my favorite cow town puppet show anyway? Not unless the discs are defective and the picture quality isn’t any good.I’m sold on every single one.

Mine has not shipped yet, but I can’t wait! I’m unconcerned about reviewer opinions, been very pleased with all of the shout releases thus far.

Got back from Hasting’s a while ago and they had Volume XX,which surprised me.It’s suppose to be out this coming Tuesday and they already have it in their store? I didn’t get it because I pre-ordered mine a couple of months ago because I wanted a DAMN stress ball! :weep:

Just got back from my local Best Buy, who also had Vol. XX on the shelves early. Perhaps someone messed up the shipping dates?

  9. Sharktopus says:

Many retailers get new releases shipped to them a week or more before the official release date. (Almost always Tuesday.) They’re not supposed to sell them before that “street date,” and can get into some sort of trouble if they get caught selling a big, highly-anticipated title, but with smaller releases – the kind that don’t get advertised – employees are often unaware of the street date, or that it’s a new release at all. Best Buy is notorious for this. I’ve come across new MST sets over a week before they were supposed to be out.

    Good hunting!

Mine not only shipped, it appears it will be delivered today based on the tracking info. This will be the earliest I ever had one of these sets by Advance Ordering it and it’s the first time I ordered it directly from Shout! Factory instead of Amazon or DeepDiscount. Great service, Shout! Factory.

My set just got delivered by the mailman. Yay! Came with a sort of beige/khaki stress ball… And it smells real funny. Oh well, I’ll certainly put up with the odor in order to acquire some chewy Van Patton goodness.

For those who have ordered from Amazon, have you gotten any shipping confirmation emails yet? I haven’t gotten anything and it says it was supposed to ship on Friday. If I don’t get anything tomorrow, I’ll probably email them and ask what gives. I hope they’re not screwing me over.

Amazon tends to be a stickler about not delivering before the official release date, so I would expect it to arrive Tuesday.

Fun fact: I once got someone else’s order from Amazon. No big deal – these things happen. The weird thing is that it was for someone in AUSTRALIA. I’m in New York. Crazy, huh?

Stress balls should not be flesh-colored.

When I ordered from Amazon in the past the order usually arrived either on or shortly after the release date. My Shout! order arrived yesterday and I’m already on the second DVD in the set. And the Planet Logo Stress Ball is cool.

I ordered on Amazon and the order was made non-reversible recently, which means it will ship today. I live in Tucson, Arizona and Amazon has a Phoenix warehouse, so they must be thinking (and generally accurately nased on my history with them) it will only take a day in order for my item to arrive.

Got my order from Shout! today, very excited. Unfortunately Shout! shipping put my Volume XX in a Priority Mail box that was a wee bit too small and my XX box is a little mushed.

I got the shipping email on March 4 and it arrived today (one day early). Thanks, Shout! The shipping tag says that it came from Indianapolis. I live in TX, so do the people who got theirs early live closer to the warehouse?

    From The Evolution of Snark:

Mike episodes were more consistently funny, but the Joel episodes had more obscure references that hit hard when they landed.

I’d love to see the mathematical proof that led to this conclusion. Did Danica McKellar find a corollary to Sampo’s Theorem?

“Unfortunately, this set isn’t quite as good as some recent ones, particularly the recent Volume XIX, but we can’t expect Shout! Factory to hit a home run every time.”

Piffle! Every time an episode is released for the first time it is a home run. We get the best copy available for our personal collections…no more multi-generation tape degrading, garbled sound, edit splices, funky overlays of ads on the bottom or commercials recorded on the source copy and whatever other crap that makes the viewing less than ideal. I think SHOUT! is doing it perfectly.

From these comments it seems like Shout Factory was sending the sets out early? Ohhhhhh I hope they don’t get into trouble for that!

Can anyone who ordered from Shout clear up the whole stress ball color thing? Is it actually the weird greenish yellow color that it looks to have in the pictures? Also, not to restart that debate, but I was watching Poopie 2 (the Rhino DVD extra version) the other day, and they had some outtakes from the “Poopie Parade of Values” infomercial they did all those years back to sell the original “Poopie” and “Scrapbook” tapes. In the background directly behind them is what I can only assume to be the original logo ball, and in the bright and basic, no frills lighting of the room they are filming in (which appears to be a props workshop at the Best Brains studio) the ball appears to definitely be what I would only call gray.

I think most of these reviews are tailored to casual fans (or at least, not readers of this site) and honestly, I LOVE this set, but I can see how someone who doesn’t want to own every episode might not see it as a “home run”. Me, on the other hand – all 4 eps are great in my opinion, and I love the Servo vs. Servo feature.

I pre-ordered mine from Barnes and Noble months back for express delivery. While it shipped last night, it did not arrive today. However, it is certain to come tomorrow. MST3K is always worth the patience.

When are we going to hear about the extra-special Volume 21?

If you dig the Servo vs Servo panel bonus feature on the new MST3K DVD set, let Shout know you’d like to see both the Mads & History of MST panels we did on future sets. Your feedback to Shout will determine if these see the light of day…

Got my set on Saturday. I didn’t think it would come ’till the end of this week.’ The cool thing is we never use the front door to our Apt. we park on the side so we come in the side door. Anyway Saturday we came in the side door and my wife went to get the mail out front and outside our door was VOL.XX. She said “Hey look what came today!” I was happy as a little clam. I watched Project Moonbase twice already and love the old shows because I didn’t start watching the show ’till the second season and a lot of the older shows I had on tape from Turkey Day Marathons but lent them out and never got them back from certain individuals. Anyway, I also saw the Magic Voyage of Sinbad. Great stuff. I’m waiting for a special occasion to dig into Master Ninja 1 & 2. Great extras, great set. Keep up the good work Shout Factory. Now I’m counting the days for the Gamera set.

“Mike episodes were more consistently funny, but the Joel episodes had more obscure references that hit hard when they landed.”

I think that’s a pretty fair, if overly general, assessment, especially as a fan who’s closer to Mike’s age group than Joel’s. (I’m 30.) Significantly more references go over my head in earlier episodes. Plus, we know the move to SciFi meant considerably more executive meddling so I imagine the Brains got “stop being so obscure” notes similar to what they dealt with while writing the movie.

However, I believe that finding the Mike episodes “more consistently funny,” has far more to do with simple “practice makes perfect” than the comedic sensibilities of the host. The writing team had simply been doing it longer when Mike took over hosting duties and had become a more well-oiled machine. Regardless, I love both hosts equally, and would gladly dive in front of a Nerf dart for them. Maybe even a paintball.

  47. That line in the Snark article jumped out at me, too, and I agree that his general point is correct.

I do take issue with the reviewer implying that the lack of obscure references in the Sci-Fi episodes makes them more consistently funny. The jokes in the Comedy Central shows do hit you in the gut a lot harder, and the fact that younger people don’t get them doesn’t make them less funny in general. It does make those episodes less funny to younger people, which I think will hurt the rewatchability of the show as we old fogeys die off.

As for the set not being a home run, I’m reminded of a passage in “The World According to Garp” where a reader has said something critical of Garp’s novel. His reply to her is “Madam, you should either stop trying to read books, or you should try a lot harder.”

If you don’t find the Master Ninja and Sinbad eps hilarious, you might think about giving up on trying to watch the first seven years of the show.

Anyone else have trouble with the sound in the Servo vs. Servo extra? It seemed I had to keep adjusting the volume. The host’s voice was especially low in spots. And I couldn’t hear what Trace said from the crowd. I could see Joel’s head as he got up to walk by the camera. And I’m guessing that shock of white hair was the back of Frank’s head. :)

My copy of Volume 20 arrived today. It’s awesome. The two Master episodes are classic – I LOVE it when they imitate Lee Van Cleef’s voice. I still can’t believe that the guy playing Max Keller produced and directed The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire!

Master Ninja I was about as good as hyped. I have to admit I was taken in by the actual show…er movie to the point that I didn’t give the riffs all my attention. The first half of the movie was embarrassing nonsense, but I kinda enjoyed the second half with the daughter learning to walk. Loved the host segment about nunchuks. Tomorrow will be Master Ninja II night and then on Friday I got a friend coming over so that we can watch the Sinbad movie for the first time.

    Happy days. :-D
