    That’s a great idea, a stress ball.

May I add, an even neater thing would be an full size mst3k dodgeball! They should raffle some off, or put a ‘golden ticket’ in a small number of sets that can be redeemed for one.

The neat thing about such an item?

You could take it with you when you go see a movie in theaters, and if the movie is really bad you could squeeze it tightly while making fun of the movie (either out loud if you’re alone or only with friends in the theater or to yourself if there’s a lot of people)

I had stress balls once. The doctor gave me some ointment, and that took care of it pretty quickly.

Right now it’s $39.99 plus $5.49 shipping from Shout, and only $41.99 with free shipping from Amazon. So it’s only $3.50 more to order from Shout and get the ball. So I guess the question is, would I buy that ball separately for $3.50? Hmmm…

  6. Mr. B(ob) says:

@ #5: My answer to that question was “yes”. I did the same math, realized that for such a small difference I’d like to have the additional item. Apologies to Amazon, I canceled my order there and ordered with Shout! Factory this one time.

Sadly, they are charging $30 US to ship the item to Canada, so it doesn’t make any sense for me to order it from them.

I ordered one. Sure its a little more expensive, but for an exclusive pre-order item its worth it to me.

    A stress ball? Very ’90s.

I already placed my order at Amazon.com and I couldn’t care less about this stress ball.

  18. Gary Bowden says:

Who cares if the stress ball is 90’s or if it’s not grey,it’ll be a collector’s item for sure.Besides,it’s cheaper to buy from Shout!,isn’t it?

  19. Mr. B(ob) says:

No, as has been pointed out by two of us above, it’s about $3.50 more due to the shipping. But if it’s less than a $5 difference, which it is, I figured it was worth it for the extra little show related item. And I agree, who cares what color it is? Seriously, people are passing on it because it’s not gray? I will restrain myself from further comment on that.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, in fact it’s an amusing reference to the decade of MST3K. It’s just hard for me to care about this.

The issue was not whether or not everyone wants one of the stress balls. Understandably, some fans do and some fans don’t. The weird thing is that some fans seem to really care deeply about what color it is and only would want one if it was gray.

Well, gray was the color of the planet logo, so I don’t know why it’s strange to want the stress ball to be in gray?

  23. Mr. B(ob) says:

Yes, I understand the planet logo was gray without being reminded. I and apparently a few others too simply don’t understand why whether or not the small promotional item from Shout! is gray is a complete deal breaker for some people. Forgive my saying so, that’s some odd hard-core fan-boy purism.

The fact is, I don’t want or need a “stress ball” and don’t care if it’s made out of foam or wood. If it were gray, I’d buy it to put on my shelf as a show-accurate piece of memorabilia like the Bot statues.

This is a pretty cool item. So what is next? A dog chew toy SOL?

  28. Mr. B(ob) says:

Hmmm, admittedly I would have really cared if the ‘Bot miniatures were the wrong colors, but I just don’t have a problem with the planet logo stress ball not being gray. It’s not like it hasn’t already been other colors on official T-shirts, decals, and even on The Amazing Colossal Episode Guide! I think it will look fine on my book shelf the way it is even if it isn’t gray.

  29. Cronkite Moonshot says:

@Ryan #27… I would love an SOL model, but only if it were blaze orange or lime green.

Anyway as the person who started all this “it isn’t grey” stuff, I never said it was a “dealbreaker” or that I wasn’t going to get the thing just because it isn’t grey. I just said I WISHED it were grey. That’s because it looks like a little model of the logo, which IS GREY, and so it makes no sense that it is yellow. If it were grey it would be perfect, and there would be no question about whether or not I was ordering it. But as it is, with it being yellow and all, my enthusiasm simply wasn’t stoked as much as it might have been had it been grey and perfect, and so now I’m just considering whether I’d rather have a little yellow ball that says “Mystery Science Theater 3000” on it sitting on a shelf somewhere, or put that $3.50 towards one of the many many many other DVDs or BDs I also would like to purchase at some point. That’s like half the price or more of an awful lot of cheapo DVDs I have in my Amazon shopping cart right now. I don’t see why it’s such a problem that some of us would have been more interested in the thing if it were grey.

So as Steve Martin said “Somebody hates those cans!”… no wait… “WELL EXCUUUUUSSSE ME!”. Yeah that’s the one.

This might be worth its own post, but 16-19 are on sale on Amazon much cheaper than they’ve been:

    MST3 Vol 19 [Limited Edition w/ Gypsy figurine]: $38.49
    MST3K Vol 18: $29.99
    MST3K Vol 17: $29.99
    MST3K Vol 16: $31.49

Of course I finally broke down last week and ordered Vol. 18 for about $38, so why wouldn’t it go on sale days later?

Hmmmmm………now, if only Shout! were open to ‘suggestions’ from the fans for future give-aways with purchase……….me, I wouldn’t be too disappointed if they offered, say, a ‘Beez’ or Bridget (Sorry, Mike!!!) ‘action’ figure with Vol. XXI !!!

    Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he ??? ;-)

    Also…

majorjoe23 #34 if you ordered from Amazon you might want to check with their customer service to see if they have any special price guarantee policy for such a situation. I can’t say for sure if they do, but it’s definitely possible. Many stores, both brick and mortar and online, have such policies. At Best Buy if an item goes on sale up to thirty days after your purchase you can bring your receipt in and they will refund the difference to you. I’ve done that several times over the years. Anyway it’s definitely worth at least checking with Amazon to see what their policy is.

Since this is Shout we’re talking about, I give them a pass on whether this is a good deal or not. They’ve been good to us, REAL GOOD, and frankly I appreciate what they’ve done for each set. In this situation the money is not concern to me and I suspect it never will just as long as they continue to put out awesome collections. ;)

Amazon guarantees that the price you pay on an item will be the lowest one they offer before the item is released. So if you buy an Advance Order from them at $54.99 and the price goes down to $41.99 before release, then they will charge you that lower price. Whatever the lowest price they offer happens to be before the release date, that is what you will be charged when the item ships.

Brian Ward of Shout! Factory posted the following message regarding the color of the planet logo stress ball just a little while ago. Take a look at his message, read my comments above about the planet logo on the cover of the Amazing Colossal Episode Guide, and then be glad I didn’t say “I told you so”… ;)

I was told that there was an issue with some fans regarding the color of the stress ball. As with the figurines of Crow and Servo, the stress ball’s color is much closer to the original than you think. Due to the lighting on set, the original spaghetti ball appeared more grey. But per photos we have of the original, a recreation we have in our office, and Joel’s own account, and Jim’s approval of the stress ball, the original spaghetti ball was, in fact, a yellowish color. Anyone who saw our booth at San Diego Comic-Con a couple years back has seen it. And look at the spaghetti ball on the covers of the DVDs. That is an original photo taken directly from their logo and, clearly, it’s not grey. And on MST3Kinfo.com, to the left, you’ll see a “Sci-Fi Archives” link that shows a very golden spaghetti ball. So, to be honest, I’m not entirely sure where the complaints are coming from. Not that I’m bothered by them, mind you. I get the ball in the opening titles appears grey and that’s what some people want. But the actual ball, which is what we were recreating, wasn’t. And that’s more of what I would want, personally.

Thanks for listening to the explanation, gang!

    Brian
