Cinematic Titanic’s second episode, “Doomsday Machine,” is now on sale! Visit their new store HERE to pick up your DVD for $14.99 (plus shipping and handling) or download it for $9.99. By the way, the DVD will be shipped in a shrink-wrapped DVD box (which should up the packaging grumblers).
In other CT news, this weekend’s show at L.A.’s Ford Ampitheater is sold out.
Yes!
Ordered from the Cinematic Titanic website.

Downloading now! They had some bandwidth hiccups earlier that kept kicking me out, but it seems to be going smoothly now (though VERY slowly). Hopefully their release schedule will speed up now that they’re filming episodes at a faster clip.

I ordered the DVD. And it is nice that it’s coming in a DVD case this time.

It’s nice that they’re selling to people overseas this time.

Heads up on the download, due to the overwhelming response Doomsday is offline.
What are you going to purchase DVD or download?

The first episode looks to have nice DVD cover art as well. I’ll all over this when my purse is filled back up in a bit. These look like great fun!

I’m waiting until I go to Saturday’s show in LA ( ) to see if they’re selling them there.

Very excited to watch this!
Dunno if I missed this @ CT site, does anyone know if the NEW “hard DVDs” are produced as actual retail DVDs. (meaning, not a DVD-R with inkjet label and cover, which I could do myself with the download). I see they offer Oozing Skull with complete packaging now
Also, why do they only offer the DVD case art and not the disc art for the downloads?

I ordered a physical dvd, too. I’m really glad about the packaging upgrade from last time, since my first disc arrived scuffed.

evilgordo, according to the CT email, “The DVD is pressed from a glass master with printed graphics,” which means not a DVD-R, nor a printed label.

Thanks Ed. I was so excited that I didn’t read the entire email
Looks like I’ll have to buy Oozing Skull again (Stupid complete-ist collector obsession  )

Just ordered the DVD. I’ll just be camped by the mailbox for the next few days.

Well, I’m sitting here waiting to give them my money, but they won’t let me because they weren’t prepared for the demand. We are not amused!

Ordered it. Now the wait for DOOMSDAY begins…

Download’s at 72.8%! Constantly losing and reacquiring the server connection, but I suppose any progress is good progress. I was just hoping I could get this download finished before I got off work so I could take it home for viewing, but that’s looking increasingly unlikely. La-ame!

Glad I waited until they offered packaging for The Oozing Skull. 3-5 business days! Yay!

I love their theme music in the trailer!

I’m in… now to clear next weekend’s schedule !

It’s hard to have much sympathy for CT anymore because they’ve been around for a while now and they should understand the demand.
But seriously, the actual DVDs should’ve been made available a week ago to match the online sale. Now I have to wait because downloading sucks and the quality just isn’t there.
Paying more means you have to wait? Someone at CT isn’t doing their homework.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only completeist nerd who is seriously considering re-ordering Oozing Skull (got mine on download originally) for the nifty new packaging…

So what’s the story with shipping overseas, when I clicked on it there was no extra shipping cost which seemed odd, so I cancelled. What is the shipping charge?

EZtakes yanked Doomsday. FFS I was at 97% and the download was finally chugging along.

Bought the dvd today. I was pleased that they DO take Paypal.
I bought the dvd of oozing skull when it came out as well. I have the means to download and burn, but I just don’t have the time to screw around and prefer the convenience of the dvd.
Yeah, I’m lazy about things that I can afford to be lazy about. A little extravagance in life never hurt anybody.

BathTub, the overseas shipping charge is like $11. It’s a little hefty, but, you know, who cares?

Looks like the download’s back up…

“Now I have to wait because downloading sucks and the quality just isn’t there.”
I couldn’t tell if my download of “The Oozing Skull” suffered from over-compression because the film print itself was pretty bad. The download is 3GB, could someone who bought the physical DVD please tell me how many GB of the DVD are actually used?

Got it!

Ah good my crappy schedule will actually give me the time to download and watch this over the weekend.

@ Kirk…
I just checked my DVD of The Oozing Skull and it says it’s exactly 3.00 GB, so it would seem that the download version is exactly the same as the hard copy DVD.
I already ordered my copy of Doomsday Machine to get the real DVD (and I ordered it first thing yesterday morning, so hopefully I’ll be ahead of the rush a bit). I would have to pay $9.99 for it anyway, take the time to download it, use my materials to burn and label it (I can print on DVDs with my printer for a cool label, but that would use both obscenely expensive ink, and one of my supply of slightly more expensive inkjet ready DVD-R’s) download or design my own cover and print it (using more obscenely expensive ink and inkjet paper), and finally spend another $1 to $1.50 on a case for it. All that expense and hassle on top of the $9.99 is NOT worth it one bit when I can just spend a couple of dollars more and wait a couple extra days to get the professionally pressed and labled DVD with case and all instead. I do have the official case and cover for Oozing Skull because I splurged a little and bought it for $10 at the show they did in Minneapolis in January, but I also got it signed by all of them as well so that was worth it. Maybe they will offer it for sale separately online as well for those who didn’t get it the first time around. I also have my own cover that I designed for it before I got the official one, and I like it a lot more, so I actually plan on making a new cover for Doomsday Machine in the same style as well. But it will be cool to have the official one too.

So which part of buying and downloading an mp3, having to buy or rent not only the correct movie, but the correct DVD version of said movie, having to set up a system to listen to both the mp3 and the DVD audio at the same time, having to try to manually synch up the mp3 audio to the DVD (and god forbid you have to pause the movie while you’re watching it, and also try to pause the mp3 at the exact same time or you have to resynch it all over again) is more easy than ordering a DVD, waiting for it to be delivered, and then putting it into the player and pushing one button? You don’t need to have a Paypal account to order the CT DVD. You can pay a one time payment without opening an actual account. It’s no different than buying anything else online, and took me about 30 seconds. Just as easy as anything I’ve ever bought from Rifftrax, minus the further steps outlined above to actually enjoy what I bought.

It’s not that, it’s the fact that Paypal is the most obstinate thing I’ve ever run across. Funny how everywhere else on teh intarwebs has no problem with my credit card(s), but Paypal can’t quite seem to accept them. Using a ‘media manager’ that EZTakes foists off on ya is a whole ‘nother PITA.
Just seems to me that their store could do much better than Paypal.

Ordered my copy of the DVD yesterday afternoon. It was nice of them to e-mail me a link directly to the order page… even though I already planned on getting it when I was warming up my computer anyhow. And though I’m eager to get my copy of Doomsday, I still prefer waiting a few days. It’s kind of like buying a lotto ticket; half the fun is the anticipation. (I know… I’m odd.)

All things in good time. As I remember it, Rifftrax started out using Paypal as well.

You dont have to pay by credit card with paypal—you can use your checking account as well.
Or you can sell your old junk on ebay and just use the money people have paid you.
This way you dont need a credit card.
I’m grateful they take paypal since I dont use credit cards.

I’ve had a Paypal account for seven or eight years and never had a single problem, and have in fact used their services a couple of times to recover money from crooked eBay sellers which I could never have done if I had just used my credit card directly or paid with a money order or something. I’d rather use paypal than have to constantly give out my credit card info to every website I wanted to buy from. I think Paypal is simple to use, and incredibly convenient, and I’m very happy they accept it at CT and Rifftrax as well, so your complaints are falling on deaf ears with me.

Getting back to the show itself…
Not being a US resident, I didn’t get to see the first CT DVD. I hear it was hugely funny… this latest one? Meh, one or two small chuckles, that’s it. Kinda dull for the most part. Shame. Still, will probably buy the next one, sad addict that I am.

Oh, Cornjob, Rifftrax ain’t so bad. Most everyone nowadays has an Ipod or some such similar machine, speaker sets for them cost very little – my excellent set ran 8 bucks, and synching is incredibly easy. Sure, it sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really not.
And finding the “correct” version of the DVD? This step is only tough for the truly mentally challenged.

I know it isn’t actually that difficult to do all those things, I was just pointing out how much less simple it was than putting in a DVD and hitting play (and I was responding to someone else who said Rifftrax was more simple than CT just because for some reason they don’t like the incredibly easy payment system CT uses). And none of what I mentioned would be much of a hassle if the Rifftrax themselves were better, but I wasn’t that thrilled by any of the ones I’ve seen, so it all felt like too much hassle to have a mediocre experience, and the thought of having to do it all again is a big consideration when I am thinking about getting a new Rifftrax. Think about having to track down a DVD of the film and do the synching work to enjoy your least favorite episode of MST3000 and you will kind of know how I feel about the Rifftrax I’ve seen (“kind of” because I actually still enjoy my least favorite MST3000 episode far more than the Rifftrax I’ve seen). That is why pretty much stick to the shorts they offer as VOD. They are much funnier than the regular Rifftrax and ironically would actually be worth the synching process if they weren’t offered as VOD. But My point anyway was not to complain about how “hard” it is to watch a Rifftrax, but to point out that it is pretty stupid to claim it’s an easier process than watching a CT DVD (but of course they were actually complaining about the payment process for CT, which still sounds pretty stupid as it took me about 30 seconds to order my CT DVD, and you don’t have to actually have a Paypal account to make the payment, so it’s no different than ordering anything else with your credit card).

*sigh* unfortunately, even NOT setting up an account with Paypal will convince Paypal to take my card. I got it (and it’s very good, of course) using EZTakes…I’m just leery of download managers. Burn immediately and stash the actual digital file somewhere safe, is all I’m sayin’. (ayup, there’s a long sad story there…ok, it’s stupefyingly boring).

The Rifftrax Player works fairly well. It sometimes loses synch, but that may be due to not using the exact version of a movie (not too sure about that). It works every bit as well as trying to synch up two different players. I have had good luck ripping MY movie and overdubbing with a Rifftrax, the only fun there is setting audio levels.

Once the Eztake program started downloading properly it is very nice. you can print the material from the program and burn the DVD as well or just play it back. Not bad. Was annoyed they didnt realize the demand would be what it was. Should have done their homework.

Ordered mine first thing on Thursday (even overdrew my account(it was payday anyway)).
I hope there aren’t issues with shipping this one out. I remember waiting quite some time for
Brain of BloodOozing Skull.Someone should post a comment or there should be an update here when someone receives theirs so everyone can know if they should expect problems.

Cornjob, thanks for the info on the size of the DVD file. Looks like I shouldn’t be losing any quality either way I go.

Don’t mean to stay on this subject, but just my thoughts:
I’ve seen A LOT of bitching when it comes to CT, and I have to say it’s too bad the way many people give them so little slack. I mean, this is only their second installment, they are artist owned, they are as close to mst3k, (hence more production issues then Rifftrax,) as we have seen, and it’s just all still new. Their just getting back into something some of them haven’t done in years. I give extra slack, because I’m just so happy to see them at it again!
But back on topic, I can’t wait to watch Doomsday! Still downloading’s slow, my connection’s so bad sometimes, so it will take some time.

I saw the server problems on the first couple of days, so i waited it out & downloaded and watched it last night.
One bummer is that on the first day of downloads they had a PAYPAL option and when i went back last night I was forced to use a credit card which i HATE(!!!!) to do online. I almost aborted the purchase!! Make it Paypal-able guys! You will sell even MORE!
The downloads are working a-ok now, it took me about 45 minutes for the 3.5 gig download.
The Opening: Brief introduction to the riffers who discuss the movie for about a minute or so. With an odd comment about “we notice you don’t have the robots with you anymore” and Trace says “No we don’t do that anymore, it’s just us”
Is this an indication that there will never be an MST3K return, or just a way to introduce viewers to the relationship between the CT and MST3K brands?
The Movie: “Doomsday” is a perfect choice for riffing, plenty of bad sets, bad acting, unlikely science and outer space drama.
Overall it’s pretty good, but I enjoyed “Oozing Skull” a little more. There are some great riffs, however this one drags near the end.
Also it kinda felt like the CT crew is still experimenting with “riff allocation” between 5 people … sometimes it seemed to follow a repeating pattern of joel, mary, trace, josh, frank, joel, mary, trace … and there were a few group riffs.
I’m still not sold on stopping the film for sight gags … some are just NOT funny enough to compensate for the unannounced break in the movie, & a predictable gag doesn’t add anything for me.
These seem intended to functon in a similar way as the host segments in MST3K, but they are nowhere NEAR as funny.
Rating: 3.9 Stars (out of five)
Definitely worth the download price of 9.99
… and it’s good to support the CT Crew because it looks like these will be getting better as they get comfortable in their new format.

on their blog they say that there will be no shipping emails, but that either they are already on their way or will be by Thursday. That is, if you ordered yours early enough
