In episode order:
CREEPY GIRL. Episode 204- Catalina Caper — For me, this is the song that really started it all. Sure, there were songs before this, but this one established the combination of Mike’s composing skils and Kevin’s lovely Irish tenor.
IF CHAUFFEURS RULED THE WORLD. Episode 206- Ring of Terror. — As a singer, Frank is a great comedian but he gives this one plenty of heart before Dr. F drops some scenery on him.
GODZILLA’S GENEALOGY BOP. Episode 213- Godzilla vs. Sea Monster. — Another one of those goofy/nerdy outings that mostly works because Joel, Trace and Kevin sell it.
SLOW THE PLOT DOWN. Episode: 314- Mighty Jack. — Maybe the best plot shanty ever.
PATRICK SWAYZE CHRISTMAS. Episode 321- Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. — Quickly becoming the standard Crow hoped it would be; brilliantly zany.
A DANGER TO OURSELF AND OTHERS. Episode 406- Attack of the Giant Leeches. — Wagnatz!
PANTS! Episode 410- Hercules Vs. The Moon Men. — One of those Joel songs were he seems a little crazed, which adds to the fun.
HIRED! Episode 423- Bride Of The Monster. — It would make no sense to anybody who had not seen the short that precedes it, but for those who have it’s an very observant parody.
TUBULAR BOOBULAR JOY. Episode 519- Outlaw. — Giddily naughty fun.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, IF THAT’S OKAY. Episode 521- Santa Claus. — A perennial favorite and a still-relevant skewering of political correctness.
ENDLESS FRANK. Episode: 523- Village Of The Giants. — Love Mike’s Paul Williams impression.
WHO WILL I KILL? Episode: 624- Sampson vs. The Vampire Women. — Trace gamely warbles a classic as Frank departs.
WHEN I HELD YOUR BRAIN IN MY ARMS. Episode: 807- Terror From The Year 5000. — Funny and nerdy at the same time. A gem.
WHEN LOVING LOVERS LOVE. Episode: 822- Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. — A great example of Bill and Mary Jo’s chemistry.
I WISH I WAS BACK IN OLD CANADA. Episode: 910- The Final Sacrifice. — A sensation when this episode debuted. Why did this song strike such a nerve?
Least favorite:
CELEBRITY SIBLINGS. Episode 311- It Conquered the World. — Thin premise stretched even thinner.
What’s your list look like?
Clown in the sky 303- the essentiall mst song
Whom shall i kill 624- Probably dr f.s only real song he sings.
The janitor song 514- a well paid tribute to the men who make life liveable.

Getting this down to 15 was so hard. My head hurts.
1. Tibby, Oh Tibby: “Do you realize a robot just sang a love song to a turtle?”
2. Clown in the Sky: “Tom, if you don’t stop doing your Anthony Newley, I’m going to throw you against the wall.”
3. The Gamera Song: “He fills our hearts with spring, spring, spring!”
4. Slow the Plot Down: “Just who is Mighty Jack, anyway?”
5. Patrick Swayze Christmas: “I’ll have to smash your kneecaps if you bastards touch my car!”
6. A Danger To Ourselves and Others: “Do livestock make better lovers?”
8. Hired!: “I suck at my job!” “No you don’t!” “Yes I do! All my salesmen are slobs!” “No,they aren’t!” “Yes they do!”
9. My Wild Irish Ireland: “Oh Mikey, oh Mikey, it’s you that I like-y; you’re a bitchin’ dream!”
10. Toobular Boobular Joy: “Say, fellas, there sure is a lot of skin in this movie, idn’t there!”
11. Endless Frank: “Endless Frank will always flow for all we know!”
12. The United Servo Men’s Academy Choir: “Come along with me, Lucille, in my merry Oldsmobile!”
13. I Wish I Was Back In Old Canada: “Just where the hell does Canada get off sharing a border with countries far superior to it?”
14. I Am Sad: “I feel like rain….”
15. To Earth: “Can I keep my mother?”
Honorable mention (’cause I’m not really sure it counts as a song) to the little ditty Tom and Crow sing over the closing lyrics of Final Justice. “Give me seconds, baby!”
This isn’t my least favorite song, but I think “Merry Christmas, if That’s OK” is a bit overrated. Not bad, I just like it as much as most people do. DON’T HIT.

Let me preface this by saying that I’ve hoped for years that BBI would put out a book of piano sheet music of the many wonderful songs featured on the show over the years.
ONLY LOVE PADS THE FILM (#202, Sidehackers): I love the melody to this one. I’ve caught myself humming this one more often than you’d expect.
THE GYPSY MOONS (#417, Crash of the Moons): The back-and-forth between Crow and Tom gets wilder with each verse, but it’s Crow’s dark turn at the end that sells this one for me.
WHAT A PLEASANT JOURNEY (#509, The Girl in Lover’s Lane): Rhyming “Circle Pines” with “mag-ah-zynes” is funnier than it should be.
TUBULAR BOOBULAR JOY (#519, Outlaw): Masterful lyrics.
THE UNITED SERVO ACADEMY MEN’S CHORUS (#612, The Starfighters): This has to be Kevin Murphy’s best musical performance. I especially like how most of the lyrics are lifted wholesale from other songs, yet they all fit together. Excluding this song from the Clowns in the Sky albums was such a mistake.
WHO WILL I KILL? (#624, Sampson vs. The Vampire Women): Anything that centers the action on Dr. F is welcome. How often do we hear a touching ballad set against lyrics about killing?
I could go on, but these are my top favorites.

The two Christmas songs are gems. How is it they haven’t entered common parlance yet?
I also love “Creepy Girl”.

Can’t think of 15 without consulting the ACEG, but here’s the songs that pop into mind in no particular order:
1. Air to the Delta Nights – They look pretty good in fake hair.
2. Canada Song
3. Danger to Ourselves and Others – very catchy.
4. To Earth – the very birthplace of my birth.
5. Tom’s Transcendental humming – not really a song, but hilariously starts to turn into one before Mike pulls the speaker wires.

I’ll add a good word for “Where, O Werewolf” from episode 904 – Mike & the bots make a great 50s girls’ group!

I always enjoyed Servo’s song about the 70’s (AD 70, that is)
Ow wow! Back in the super bad 70s
the Roman Empire still reigned supreme!

“Only Love Pads The Film” still puts me in stitches. I loved the sarcastic/serious way J&TB set up the song. And every time I see a film with a totally gratuitous love-interest subplot, I find myself humming this one. Truly, love and love alone pads the film.
I liked “Celebrty Siblings” J&TB have taken worse ideas much farther than this one. “Joey the Lemur,” anybody?
My least favorite, aside from Mr. Lemur, was “Merry Christmas, If That’s OK” I don’t know why I can’t listen to that one. Maybe growing up in MN, it reminds me too much of all the passive-aggressive Lutherans in my life ;-)

Hmmm…
In order of appearance:
-“The MST3K theme”: CC/Joel version
-“Sidehacker Song” (Sidehackers)
-“The Pants-Up Song” (Daddy-O)
-“The Gamera Song” (in all it’s permutations)
-“Slow the Plot Down” (Mighty Jack)
-“Pants Song” (Hercules Against the Moon Men)
-“Hired!” (Bride of the Monster)
-“Tubular Boobular Joy” (Outlaw)
-“Endless Frank” (Village of the Giants, though the Live Show version w/ Frank’s dance tops it)
-“Livin’ in Deep 13” (Violent Years)
-“United Servo Academy Hymn” (Starfighters)
-“I Wish I Was Back in Old Canada” (Final Sacrifice)
-“I Am Sad” (Girl in Gold Boots)

And, in a three way tie…
-“Let’s Have a Patrick Swayze Christmas” (Santa Claus Conquers the Martians)/”Whispering Christmas Warrior” (Santa Claus)/”Merry Christmas…If That’s OK” (Santa Claus)
Least Favorite: “Celebrity Siblings” (It Conquered the World, and who the blazes remembers “Chu Chu and the Philly Flash”, anyway?)

I don’t know what it is, but I always feel terribly embarassed when they sing. My wife, on the other hand, loves the songs, and loves that they make me so uncomfortable, so turns them up nice and loud every time . . .

Wow, keeping it to 15 is awful tough. My main criterion is how much I find myself singing them.
“Acoustic Theme” (The Million Eyes of Su-Maru): It’s a lovely Peter-Paul-and-Mary-ish arrangement. I wish there was a whole version of the theme like this.
“The Side Hacker Song” (The Side Hackers): “Lean way back till you scrape your butt./Make it look like a quarter pound of ground chuck!”
“Wild Rebels Cereal” (The Wild Rebels): “Just pound ’em down, you stupid clown!/They’re wiiiiiiild!”
“The Pants-Up Song” (Daddy-O): “Hike up your pants, take your butt cheeks for a ride!”
“Slow the Plot Down” (Mighty Jack): “We’ll scuttle the story, and run her aground. We’ll try so hard to slow the plot down!”
“Let’s Have a Patrick Swayze Christmas” (Santa Claus Conquers the Martians): “It’s my way or the highway this Christmas at my bar.” “I’ll have to smash your kneecaps if you bastards touch my car.”
“A Danger to Ourselves and Others” (Attack of the Giant Leeches): “How dumb are you, Uncle Dad?” “Well, pretty dumb, that’s for sure!” “How dumb are you, Uncle Dad?” “Well, this pipe’s filled with manure!”
“Hired! The Musical” (Bride of the Monster): “I suck at my job!” “No you don’t!” “Yes I do! All my salesmen are slobs!” “No they’re not!” “Yes they do!” “Huh?”
“Livin’ in Deep 13” (The Violent Years): “Ba-da-been!/We’re living in Deep 13!/Nobody knows what we mean!/Rulin’ the world/With our heads in a swirl,/And it’s keen!/Livin’ in Deep 13.”
“The Poopy Suit Anthem” (The Starfighters): “Flying high in the blue,/Free to do/Number two!/Poop-oop-ee-doo!”
“When I Held Your Brain in My Arms” (Terror from the Year 5000): “It caused a contusion/When I held your brain in my arms/During ‘Suddenly Susan'”
“Where, O Werewolf” (Werewolf): “I screamed! Too late! We hit a tree! He died!” “Gee, that’s too bad, Susie!”
“Tusk!” (Werewolf): I don’t know if this counts, but I love the stream-of-consciousness nature of it.
“I Wish I Was Back in Old Canada” (The Final Sacrifice): “How I wish I was blowing up Prince Edward Island/Then going on to bomb Ontario./The destruction of Canada and all of its culture/Is by far my fav-or-ITE scenario!”
“Air on a Delta Knight” (Quest of the Delta Knights): “They live in Europe somewhere./With Archimedes, they eat their Wheaties,/And look pretty good in fake hair.”
I was going to include “A Clown in the Sky,” but I realized what I really loved was the dialogue.

I really quite like “Sleepy Little Fellow”, sung in the closing segment of Manhunt In Space. That’s a very special case, though, since they didn’t write that song: they took the dopey song that Winky or someone sang during it and rearranged it into a really quite sweet lullaby. Add in Crow turned into a guitar and Tom and amplifier for little obvious reason, and there’s gold even before you add in the Golden Throat.

“This is the song, written for the chase scene

From the Fugitive Alien episodes. God, My roommate and I sang that for months afterward.

You are a cruel, cruel man. Okay, my rule this time: by the lines that get stuck in my head most often.
1. “Wild Rebels Cereal” from 207 Wild Rebels – “Just pound them down, you stupid clowns!”
2. “Clown in the Sky” from 303 Pod People – “I love you, Crow!” “You’re not my real father!”
3. “A Patrick Swayze Christmas” from 321 Santa Claus Conquers the Martians – “Or we’ll tear your throat out and kick you in the ear!”
4. “A Danger to Ourselves and Others from 406 Attack of the Giant Leeches – “…sorta’ likes shows with Sally Struthers! I can’t even think of a word that rhymes!”
5. “Ode on Estelle” from 411 The Magic Sword – “She’s cute, she’s rooty-toot toot, I’ll be she smells like Juicy Fruit…”
6. “What a Pleasent Journey” from 509 The Girl in Lover’s Lane – “The 5:15 from Duluth, oh my it just derailed! The toxic waste is spillin’, the conducter’s been impaled…”
7. “Toobluar Boobluar Joy” from 519 Outlaw – “It’s breast-a-kaboobical, chest-a-ka-mammical, pendular globular fun!
8. “The Greatest Frank of All” from 523 Village of the Giants – “Endless Frank will always flow for all we know…”
9. “Who Will I Kill?” from Samson vs. the Vampire Women – “I’ve crushed his head a few times, memories like nursery rhymes…”
10. “When I Held Your Brain in my Arms” from Terror From the Year 5000 – “Your adrenalin was like wine, sweet perfume was your endocrine!”
11. “The Funky Seventies” from 814 Riding With Death – “Wow! Back in the super bad 70s, the Roman Empire still reigned supreme!”
12. “Where, oh Werewolf” from 904 Werewolf – “But just then his hairy paws caused the wheel to slide!”
13. “The Canada Song” from 910 The Final Sacrifice – “Why, you lousy, stinking, francophonic, bacon-loving bastards!”
14. “Air on a Delta Knight” from 913 Quest of the Delta Knights – “A sweet Delta Lady, I do what I please, I’m strong and I’m savvy and I’ve got these!”
15. “I Am Sad” from 1002 The Girl in Gold Boots – Your smile, your eyes, you’re like wine…”

No one seems to have mentioned the Waffle Song, from episode 317
and I LOVE the Master Ninja Theme Song, from episode 322. Just hearing it on the Clowns In The Sky CD, without having seen the episode, it seemed quite the craziest thing they’d ever done.

Okay, I know I already posted my fifteen, but I’d like to add an honorable mention:
“Oh, Sweet Mother of Mine” (First Spaceship on Venus)

Gamera is really neat he is filled with turtle meat…
Maybe I am the only one who likes this song?

I don’t think I can separate 15 from the rest, but here are some of my favorites.
Who will I kill? – brilliant
A Patrick Swayze Christmas
Endless Frank: I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – no one impersonates Paul Williams as well as Mike.
The Fugitive Alien Song – “He tried to kill me with a forklift” is central to the show’s identity.
Master Ninja Theme Song: Downright funky. I’m confident that if more people had seen this episode, this song would be on a lot more lists.
When I Held Your Brain in My Arms
Only Love Pads the Film: maybe the most sentimental song they ever did
Idiot Control Now
Tusk! (closing credits of Werewolf): someone in another forum kept insisting a while ago that they could be saying “Toss!” intermittently. I tried explaining, to no avail.

I, for one, happen to crack up EVERY TIME i see Episode 611 “Last of the Wild Horses” with the alternate universe DR. F and Frank on the SOL singing the alternate lyrics to “Joey The Lemur” …
(Frank thrashes a Lemur puppet around wildly) “he’s the kind of animal that would go to the bathroom anytime anywhere”
(Dr. F stops the song) “Oh no! Now .. wait just a minute”
(Frank) “But It’s THE LEEEMURRRR”
The look on Frank’s face is PRICELESS!

The Holy Trinity, as gauged by the amount of listens/viewings in the Thames household and listed in alphabetical order:
Idiot Control Now – over trout is the only way to fly.
My Creepy Girl – my wife especially likes this one. My favorite bit is Servo’s explanation of the role of the second E.
Pants Up Song, The – Frank’s bit never fails to give me the killer giggles.
Honorable Mention: The United Servo Men’s Academy Chorus. That unsinkable Murphy tenor, multitracked for your pleasure.

So many good ones, but here’s a short list:
– Pod People: the recreated recording session from the film. My son and I were discussing this last evening as one of the best host segments and songs on the show ever. “Bees on pie, burning rubber tires.” LOL!
– Sidehackers: Sidehackin’ “Favorite sport of cheap white trash…”
– Catalina Caper: Creepy Girl
– Outlaw: Tubular Boobular Joy
– Ring of Terror: If Chauffeurs Ruled The World
– Daddy O: Hike Your Pants Up!
– Gamera: Tibby O Tibby
– Wild Rebels: Wild Rebels Cereal
– Gamera: The Gamera Song “Gamera is full of meat…”
– Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster: Godzilla Genealogy Bop
– Werewolf: Where O Werewolf
– Santa Claus Conquers The Martians: Patrick Swayze Christmas
– Alien From L.A.: Wild Irish Ireland
These are not only some of my favorite songs, but I think they are some of the best host segments ever done on the show. Truly hilarious stuff that gets better every time you see it.

Oh yeah, how could I forget…
– The Jet Jaguar song
– Joey the Lemur
– They Tried To Kill Him With A Forklift
– Gamera-dammerung opera (the music never quite gets off the ground here as the joke is that it’s squashed just as it is getting started, but what a hilarious musical concept)
This discussion thread really highlights how much great musical comedy there was on the show. It was consistently great!

Another great weekend thread, Sampo! It’s always a pleasureable challenge to come up with your fav of anything when there are so many. I’ll do my best to keep it to 15. In show order, mine are:
1) Sidehackers(202) “Only Love Pads the Film” a silly way to end what was a pretty dark movie.
2) Catalina Caper(204) “Oh! Creepy Girl” Tom’s love for the dark-haired girl in the movie is funny and clever.
3) Wild Rebels(207) “Wild Rebels Cereal” If advertising were like this, I wouldn’t hate it so much.
4) Pod People(303) “Idiot Control Now” & “Clowns in the Sky” Silly lyrics to mock an even sillier movie…this episode is a hit due in a major part to these two numbers
5) Daddy-O (307) “Pants-Up Song” Joel’s vapor locked ending is unusally high energy.
6) Gamera vs. Guiron (312) “The Gamera Song” Mike Nelson as Michael Feinstein is one of the funniest moments in show history.
7) Mighty Jack (314) “Slow the Plot Down” an underappreciated song in the show’s history; kudos to Sampo for highlighting it!
8} Santa Claus Conquers the Martians(321) “A Patrick Swayze Christmas” Forget Santa Klaws and “Merry Christmas-If That’s OK”, this is the best holiday song the Brains performed. A Yuletide staple in my house every Dec. 25th!
9) Attack of the Giant Leeches(406) “We’re a Danger to Ourselves and Others” Playful yet dark lyrics with an explosion at the end: great stuff!!!
10) Hercules Against Moon Men(410) “Ode to Pants” Killer lyrics with a nod to the Wizard of Oz at the end.
11) Magic Sword(411) “Estelle” Crow’s love for Estelle Winwood is cute yet weird; Servo’s “rebuttal” puts the song over the top!
12) Bride of the Monster(423) “Hired! The Musical!” A rare sketch where the musical number is based on the short; very comically clever wordplay in this one!
13) Girl In Lover’s Lane(509) “What a Pleasant Journey” Crow’s lines are particularly the funniest here.
14) Teenage Strangler(514) “The Janitor Song” Mike’s first number as host closes the show out nicely.
15) Outlaw(519) “Toobular Boobular Joy” Naughty innuendo, great laughs from it!
Honorable Mentions: “The United Servo Academy Men’s Chrous”, “My Wild Irish Ireland”, “Let Me Be Frank About Frank”, and “Whom Shall I Kill?”
No offense to the Sci-Fi era songs, I just didn’t have the room!

2) Hike Up Your Pants (“Take your butt cheeks for ride…”)
3) Oh, Kim Cattrall
4) The Pants! Song
5) Endless Frank (“Let me be frank about Frank”)
6) My Wild Irish Ireland (“I’ll make all of your enemies die for their sins…”)
7) That Sad Folk Song from Girl in Gold Boots
8 ) United Servo Academy Men’s Chorus Song
9) Slow the Plot Down

I’m with king of grief here, Sampo – I’d love to see comments on the songs from the movies themselves. I just watched Daddy-O again, and got into a silly but fun discussion about which song was more inane, “Rock Candy” or “Yipe Stripe” from Teenage Strangler (there was no clear winner, but we agreed Yipe Stripe was more annoying). And then there’s Arch Hall Jr’s music, and all the songs from Catalina Caper, and….well, there’s a lot of material.
As to Luke’s post about news, I gotta say that when there’s MST/CT/RT-related news, it’s invariably posted here. Maybe there’s simply not much to post just now? In the meantime, it’s very enjoyable to read others’ comments on weekend topics, so I hope you continue the trend, Sampo.

I think it was the songs made MST3K something special. Sure, the riffing was great, but watching a guy and two robots dressed as 1950s soda fountain dames sing “Where-o-werewolf, I’ve looked everywhere-wolf,” is priceless.

At the risk of taking this discussion to utterly ridiculous extremes, does “Bum ba dee-kee, hoo-ah hoo-ah” count as a song?

You can have the “hoo-ah hoo-ah” number if I can have the theme song from “Love, Satellite of Love Style” (and maybe J&TB’s version of the Star Trek fight music, too)

Tom Servo’s lyrics to the I ACCUSE MY PARENTS theme are good, as is the reenactment of the restaurant number (“Are you happy in your work?DO you never, ever shirk?”)…
Let’s hope Patrick Swayze himself is still around this Christmas to again enjoy his wonderful carol.

Does “Eskimo Spy” count as a song? It’s a fav’, anyway.

Man I never liked that “When Lovers Love” song or the “Pants” number, always thought that was a weak immitation of the superior “Hike Up You Pants”
Others I liked “Wild Rebels Cereal”, “Slow the Plot Down” from Mighty Jack. I enjoyed the personal theme songs they created for themselves (Can’t recall the episode) Crows was so simple (and he did Mikes too)while Servo goes grand. Love how Frank is doing the Mike theme when they cut back to Deep 13.
As for songs they sang during the movie? I dug the additions to the Operation 007 theme.
