Weekend Discussion Thread: Favorite Frank MomentsSo, last week I put up a list of all the threads we’ve done so far, and “Crowschmo” noticed that we haven’t done a “Favorite Frank moments” thread yet! Unimaginable! So let’s rectify that one right now.

This is not original, but I have to agree with Sampo. “Im so coooold…” And Frank’s makeup sold it. Plus Dr. F’s seeming indifference to his suffering.

Frank sold me in his very first appearance in Rocketship X-M, first with “I’m the god I’M THE GOD!!! Can I take your order?” and then with his description of the Thruster Buster: “a thick 4-lb slice of our oven-tempered meal food, covered with a wet runny blister of growth compost, onions, lettuce, mayonnaise, tomato, special sauce, skanked while you sleep would you like fries with that?”

Frank singing “Nummy muffin coo-cool butter” in Colossus and the Headhunters. It was a late friday night & it was the funniest, weirdest thing i’d ever seen on TV.
There are a LOT more fav Frank moments .. i’ll have to think a bit

When Frank came back to visit from Second Banana Heaven. That was a surprise for me seeing him back. I think it was in the episode of Soul Taker.

My favorite moment is the last appearance of the Comedy Central era when Frank’s disembodied head appears and finally tells Dr. F what he’s always wanted to. Plus a little bit of advice to the proud freaks like me out there. Yes, Frank, I shall continue to wave my freak flag high. And he signs off with what I think was his best ever “ee-yuk-el-yoo”

Sooo many great Frank moments:
In Village of the Giants, when Frank talks about being “at a crossroads” with his life…while in a supply closet…in his undershirt…eating a burrito.
As a pirate at the end of Mighty Jack.
As a rebellious sort (“Hey, it’s what I do; you don’t have to like it!”) needing the Tough Love seat in Bride of the Monster.
Sitting on his hobby hog and yelling “Nooo!” in Hellcats: “Hey, I was just following your lead, Mamajama!”

We haven’t done this one yet? Really??
Anyhow, there are too many to count! In my opinion, Frank’s tenure as Dr. F’s second banana co-incides with the golden age of MST3K. The following is in no particular order, and makes no pretense of being complete:
Frank’s whole performance as Auntie McFrank in “Amazing Transparent Man” (I especially like the way Frank puts the girly slap on Dr. F)
Frank’s “I WILL KILL YOU!” while playing water polo foosball in “Rocket Attack USA”
The way Frank goes all gooey over the Nutrageous Dr. F wants him to bait the trap with in “Kitten With a Whip”
Frank’s performance as Dr. Frankenkiester in “Radar Secret Service”
And many, many, many, many more…

“Cave Dwellers” when Frank pretends Dr. Forrester died, unbeknownst to Dr. Forrester who is a bit upset at what he’s overhearing…

For my favorite, I’ll have to say his interpretive dance number during the live show at ConventioCon I. I also liked him in the NummyMuffin segments, Frank as the mad bomber (“No, Dr. Forrester, it is you who will kill me!”) and Frank during the Turkey Day bumpers (especially the ones where he organizes Thanksgiving at Deep 13).

Everytime Frank was on the screen was my favorite moment !!
If I had to pick the best of the best….it was all the screaming he did as Doughy Man in Teenage Crimewave !!

I love Frank’s performance when he goes nuts and threatens to blow up Deep 13 from #613 ‘The Sinister Urge’.
Dr Forrester: “Frank, if you don’t stop I’ll kill you!”
Frank: “No Dr Forrester. It is you, who are going to kill me. HAHAHAHAHAHA!”
And then all is forgiven when Dr F. deep fries Frank to a golden brown.

One of my Favorite Frank Moments comes from my favorite episode and Frank’s first appearance in Rocketship X-M. His performance taking a fast food order from Joel and the ‘Bots is great.
Another is from the Giant Gila Monster Renaissance Festival Punching bag sketch. His delivery during that sketch is terrific and makes me laugh ever time.
If Chauffeurs Ruled The World is another great one. Hilarious.

Well, there is the poignant scene where Frank is consoling
the appartently dying Dr. Forrester with the various messages
people are sending regarding his illness:
“Is he dead yet, Frank? Call me, okay?”
(“Yes Mr. President. I will.”)
“Oh look, Mother Teresa sent a card. You see, they do care.”
Anyway, push the button, Frank.

Lots n lots to choose from. I really enjoyed ‘Lederhosen Frank’ from I dont know which episode. He was dressed/made up virtually as a Hummels figurine. He was so cute you just wanted to pinch his rosey cheeks.

A part of my soul left when Frank did… a lot of my favorite Frank moments are not entire sketches, but isolated portions and random line deliveries that are said with a comedic flare only he can provide. My choices:
– TV’s Frank Home Shopping Network (he spends all this time kissing… kissing his lower back pains goodbye!)
– Frank watches (on TV) what would’ve happened if he wasn’t sitting at home watching TV (“Hey! That’s Elvis Costello!”)
– The squeak toy guitars (“COME ON LET’S WAIL, WOOOOOOOO!!!!”)
– His delivery of “with this coupon” in the Johnny Long Torso skit always cracks me up.
– And when he said he was a fan of all the incarnations of The Three Stooges (except for Curley Joe Derita, he lacked subtlety).
– Also… the outtakes where he loses it during the sketches are wonderful. Frank has such an infectious laugh (the “I don’t fink on soul brother”, designer mace, and cop/doughnut ones come to mind).

I liked 605 where Frank confessed to everything. 522 his appearance of Doughy Man and 623 as Auntie McFrank’s with the bed and breakfast. Frank look so cute in dress.

Somebody mentioned the Squaremaster demonstration from Warrior of the Lost World. Seconded.
My all-time favorite Frank moments are from Angel’s Revenge, namely his Tug McGraw impression (“I’m Tug McGraw”) and Frank (dressed as Bobby Riggs) telling Dr. F (dressed as Billie Jean King) to “Rectify this, ya lousy woman!” before nailing him in the head with a tennis ball.

“Oh my gosh…this gordita is DELICIOUS!”
Where to start with Frank? I love “Nummy Muffin Coocool Butter,” and “If Chauffeurs Ruled the World…” But personally, my favorite Frank moments are anytime he appeared on “Poopie!” I dare you to watch that tape without cracking a smile.

Someone mentioned “Cave Dwellers” earlier, and the opening with the Mike Douglas furniture is one of my favorite bits. Both the very beginning, and when Frank suddenly turns around and says “Daddy, there’s a boy outside…”
I also love his performance in “The Dead Talk Back” as Forrester is trying to hock Nelson Cigarettes. Again, both Frank’s completely disinterested “For the spirit of Nelson in all of us” and then coming back completely into it.

At the beginning of Lost Continent, there’s a very funny Frank scene.
Dr. F: But before our sweet but not too spicy delve into terror, spotlight invention exchange on young Frank. Oh Frank?
Frank: *Strange, gruff voice* Thanks boss. *immediate change to normal voice* You know, people like to use…
I crack up every time. I don’t know if I’d say it’s my favorite, but it’s right up there, anyway.

#307: “Frank, what are you doing?”
“Getting a . . . slice of water . . .”
“A slice of water?”
“I mean a glass of . . . cake . . .”
As well as Mitchell when Mike steals his keys. But those are just examples.

The Magic Voyage of Sinbad: Frank does something very naughty to his chin at the end of the Chinderwear sketch.
The Wild Wild World of Batwoman: I like Frank’s reaction to Dr. F’s radioactive hairdo. “Demon! Demon!”
The Amazing Transparent Man: Frank as Auntie McFrank.

Frank was so integral to the show that I don’t know where to start–so I’ll allow myself only two.
1) I love to watch–and listen–as Frank wails on the “Ren-Fest” punching bags in Episode #402 (Giant Gila Monster).
2) I love Frank’s reaction as Forrester applies “Patches” the Leech to his neck in Episode #406 (Attack of the Giant Leeches).
A great thread–here’s to Frank!

Too many to count – Frank’s departure started the decline of the host segments.
Auntie McFrank is priceless – “Some like it warm, you know.”
His delivery in the Tragic Moments bit is tremendous, and I’ll throw in the TV’s Frank Talent Agency.

I see it’s been mentioned a couple times already, but Frank’s introduction in Rocketship X-M has always been my favorite bit. His subtle delivery of a fast food employee that suddenly bursts into “I’m the God! I’m the God!” always cracks me up, even to this day when he does a similar outburst during a Cinematic Titanic performance. He’s the master of the sudden rage dynamic.

When Forester is in bandages in Red Zone Cuba and Frank is just merciless…
Franks singing any song or ballad including nummymuffin and what is that one he sings, kind of a sad one? It escapes me right now.

So many great, wonderful “Frank” moments, which have all been listed above, but my favorite was in “Danger! Death Ray!” when Frank was a big shot Hollywood agent, supposedly hanging up on “Steven, Jeffrey and David” because he doesn’t know who they are or what they’ve done and demands they send him resumes. For those who don’t know who they are, he’s referring to Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen, who at the time had just formed Dreamworks, which was garnering much media attention. Frank also shoots down Crow’s spec scripts (claiming there were already half-a-dozen “Peter Graves at the University of Minnesota” projects in the works) but hires Mike for the touring company of “Anything Goes” at $10 grand a pop, hires Tom Servo as a sneaker endorser, works out a three-picture deal with Coleman Francis, and meets with his hottest new client, “Torgo” before Dr. F knocks Frank out with his own desk.
In that one sketch the Brains beautifully skewers high-powered Hollywood agents, and it was a wonderful bit of acting by Frank. I never get tired of watching that bit, especially Frank’s reaction when he hangs up on “Steven, Jeffrey and David”. “Good-BYYYEEE!”

I agree with everyone who said that every moment Frank is on camera is my favorite Frank moment. As much as the riffing in the truncated season seven was absolutely top-notch (and among the best riffing of the whole series), Pearl was just such a different foil to Dr. F that, as has been discussed ad nauseum, it really changed the nature of the show when he left.
But so far no one has mentioned what I think is Frank’s shining moment, and it wasn’t even really part of the show. I’m talking about those taped spots which aired in-between the episodes for that one thanksgiving marathon. In every segment he’s planning and executing the entire meal and keeping an eye on the guests, the food and on Dr. F. I think it was great to see that Frank basically ran the place while also making sure Dr. F was happy doing his little experiment. It really showed that, both onscreen and off, the whole show was inherently collaborative.
In standard TV parlance, Dr. F would have to be the main character and Frank just a sidekick. But we all know that Frank was more than just a sidekick.
Aww Frank, let me be frank about you.

Since all of the first times I thought of were taken, I remembered Hercules, ep 502 where Forrester’s invention is the cellular desk. Frank as a partially bewildered and thoroughly rebellious employee is priceless:
Dr. F: I realized that it’s had been a while since Frank’s last employee review. (presses intercom) Frank, can I see you in my office!
Frank: I’m right here (testily)
Dr. F: Frank. I was just going through my files and realized that it’s been awhile since your last review. (presses intercom) Frank, could I see the Frank file.
Frank (louder): I’m right here!
Dr. F: Ah, uncooperative
Frank gets the Frank file, slaps it down and awkwardly plops into his seat
Dr. F: Hostile, uncoordinated, Frank… Frank… Frank…
It’s not so much the dialog as Frank’s attitude that impresses.
I also have been know to say: “I did it! I shot JR. I killed that fat barkeep.” (The Beatniks)

My favorite Frank moment is on the Poopie reel when he and Clay are pitching ‘chinderwear.’ Frank is enjoying himself a little TOO much.

My favorite moment is actually at the Comic-Con 20th Anniversery reunion.
(About THIS ISLAND EARTH) Kevin Murphy: “It was perfect for us because it was big and dumb. Plus, it had aliens in suits with huge forehead butts and white hair!”
Frank, next to him: “Hey, I’m sitting right here!”

When he left the show – sorry, TV’s Frank is over rated. He was annoying (especially his gulping noise). Give me Bobo and Brain Guy.

oh, and also the Swing Choir competition … “Hey Nelll-Stone, you are So stoned, maaan. I bet you wake-n-bake every day”
I agree with the other folks who noted it’s not always just the writing but Frank’s excellent comedic timing & delivery that really make his stuff over-the-top funny.
